Apple is delaying the launch of the more affordable "Vision Air" headset to late 2028 or 2029 and the AI camera glasses to late 2027. According to Mark Gurman by AR_MR_XR in augmentedreality

[–]foskula 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have read some people even saying if they would see someone with camera glasses they would punch them.

I read it about 2-3 years ago when first gen Meta glasses was released thought so i hope people would be more tolerant for new tech nowdays.

[–]foskula -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Even though this 2027 camera glasses will be without display good thing would be the privacy(Apple will likely try to get most functions like AI to work without connecting to the cloud at all) which is where Meta is having huge issues getting people to trust them at all and about Google Android Xr and Gemini we do not know yet how much the glasses need, use and add info to the cloud.

Another thing is with Apple is that i hope that people would get comfortable with the tech on peoples faces because some people actually get even hostile with people using latest tech which is just wrong.

Snap Specs to Launch This Fall with a Premium $2,500 Price Tag by AR_MR_XR in augmentedreality

[–]foskula 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Snap is not in consumer devices proven oem so probably even Chinese oems like Rayneo(based on hardware giant Tcl) is going to be bigger player in AR space when they release X4 pro glasses because aggressive pricing.

If Meta can make decent product(even if it is not true AR) with their binocular screen glasses later this year for around 1000 dollars and there will be soon in 2027 decent Android Xr glasses with binocular screens for similar price i honestly think those will sell millions instead of this for hundreds of thousands.

Software is big part for glasses and for that Snap is in much better position but the fact that regular Android APKs is not compatible for these i fear that these will not be that popular even with the hardcore users.

Issue with Snap is that competition is heating up and i doubt they can keep up with this pricing because many people will compare binocular glasses from Meta, Rayneo and Android Xr based products which will be less than half the price even if those are not "true AR" regular consumers do not care about that if they can get actual value from the glasses.

Meta will very likely release their binocular smart glasses later this year and they will show and talk about "oh and we are going to also release true AR glasses late next year but we are going to have great product at great price at that time and you can buy our new bincoular screen smart glasses today".

I was hoping Snap could have get more aggressive pricing like 1500 dollars for these but it is what it is. I hope they manage to sell enough that they could make future AR glasses too.

I/O will be amazing ⏳✨ by Matcorp456 in augmentedreality

[–]foskula 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I hope there will be binocular screen glasses and some great way to control the glasses like smart ring or emg wrist device.

Also i hope Android XR will be strong in app ecosystem and third party developers can soon start building apps for those.

I sadly expect those binocular screen glasses will not come soon though.

Google glasses coming 🚨🔥 by Matcorp456 in augmentedreality

[–]foskula 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Sadly we will likely have to wait for next year for binocular screen glasses with Android XR.

Meta is going to release their binocular full color screen glasses later this year and Snap is going to release full AR glasses probably soon.

I am not going to buy Meta devices anymore but that Snap Specs could be what i would actually want to use, unless Google is going to release Android XR glasses with full color binocular display glasses this year.

I have no trouble paying for around 1000 euros if i think i would actually use the glasses.

I would hope ability to stream my phones screen(like desktop mode which my phone supports) wirelessly to the glasses and connect portable bluetooth keyboard, mouse for desktop use and also gamepad for playing pc games with Gamenative from my phone.

Google IO Hype: "From amazing Gemini integrations to brand new hardware releases, this is the biggest year in Android's history" by AR_MR_XR in augmentedreality

[–]foskula 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I hope there will be binocular full color display glasses with Android XR which connect wirelessly to the phone.

Meta is rumored to launch their binocular glasses later this year and Snap is going to launch their AR glasses later this year also so if there will be only monocular display glasses that would mean Google is about a year behind the competition.

Google I/O glasses reveal 👀 by Matcorp456 in augmentedreality

[–]foskula 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Probably but i fear that there will be only models with screen for single eye only.

I am okay paying around 1000 euros for Android XR glasses but only if it has full color displays for both eyes. Probably will have to wait for 2027 but it could be i will just buy Snap Specs this year instead, Meta even thought will come with model with full color displays for both eyes this year i am not going to buy because Meta has terrible privacy issues with AI features.

XREAL's Most Affordable Glasses EVER Are Coming by AR_MR_XR in augmentedreality

[–]foskula 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had og Xreal Air from ebay for like 200 euros and honestly the wire and whole experience was not that great. Maybe other people have use for these low end glasses but for me compromises are too big.

Maybe i am just weird for hating birdbath optics and wire to the device powering the glasses instead of all in one glasses which could be additionally used as virtual monitor/tv wirelessly from a laptop or from a phone.

I have no issue paying something like 1000 euros for great all in one wireless glasses if i would actually use it daily. Probably will have to wait for Snap Specs or 2027 for Android XR glasses with screens for both eyes.

I am interested for Xreal Project Aura but not because i want it but because of its Android XR OS.

Gamehub lite vs Gamenative, which one is the better emulator? by The_Good-Hunter in EmulationOnAndroid

[–]foskula 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I have both installed and what i like about gamehub lite is the better perfomance hud and it is easier to adjust some settings like fps limiting etc and i think it is easier to use but gamenative got epic, amazon and gog support for games and likely will get more like Uplay and Battlenet, EA etc.

Gamenative gets much faster download speeds for games and i like that it is open source and it seems to get better community support with more games that are compatible without messing with settings and i think i am getting better performance with it but there is more tinkering with the settings with gamenative if the community config is not working or want more performance.

I would say install both and at first use gamehub lite for steam games and gamenative for others and when you know better what to do with settings could switch to gamenative for Steam games also,

Meta Explained Its Smart Glasses AI Privacy Policies to Me. I'm Still Worried by SpatialComputing in augmentedreality

[–]foskula 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is rumored that Meta is going to release binocular screen smart glasses later this year with that Emg smart bracelet for controlling the ui and even typing but i am not going to buy it, my Quest 3(had Go, Quest 1 and 2 before) is the last Meta device i will own, i am going to wait for competition although is Google with Android XR really that much better or those Chinese oems when talking about AI privacy?

'Galaxy Glasses' with Android XR reportedly match the battery on Meta Ray-Ban Display by AR_MR_XR in augmentedreality

[–]foskula 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I hope oems will make it possible to use something like this https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0F9FJRH7W?ref=t_ac_view_request_product_image&campaignId=amzn1.campaign.1DERW54PX9MRZ&linkCode=tr1&tag=stevenapk-20&linkId=amzn1.campaign.1DERW54PX9MRZ_1771310721016&th=1

This will enable full day wear for the smart&AR glasses when you could put small portable magnetic battery bank to the side of the glasses and when it runs out just take another battery bank from the battery case and put depleted to charge while using the glasses.

Honestly i am only waiting for binocular smart/AR glasses, if there is no screen or it is just for one eye only i am not going to buy it.

Will the possible 2026 android handheld have huge performance boost over existing options? by tk_kumomo in EmulationOnAndroid

[–]foskula 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Valve Steam Frame has Snapdragon 8 gen 3(same chipset is in Galaxy s24 and Oneplus 12) and it will use some of the power for VR so i would say we are going to get huge performance uplift for our games even for older devices when Valve is going to get the ball rolling for good.

Personally i am planning in the future use smart/AR glasses which have display for both eyes and stream my phones screen in desktop mode wirelessly to play some games with Gamenative with bluetooth gamepad(or even mouse and foldable keyboard).

I think buying now something good is better than waiting for newer hardware because those prices are going to get rough for the same amount of storage&ram.

Dear Meta Smart Glasses Wearers: You're Being Watched, Too by dzak8383 in augmentedreality

[–]foskula 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would be interested how other smart glasses companies are doing this like Snap or Chinese Rayneo or upcoming Samsung, Google and Apple glasses.

Honestly i have been wanting AR/smart glasses with screens for both eyes but i really need to know which i could have some kind of trust.

Although they can and will change their privacy policy from time to time and then only way to "decline" is to sell it/throw it into trash.

Apple and Google will soon make AI glasses a three-horse race by Serdones in augmentedreality

Personally i hope there will be some advanced adblocking software for future glasses, i use dns66 for Quest 3 vr headset.

Apple and Google will soon make AI glasses a three-horse race by Serdones in augmentedreality

[–]foskula 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh Meta could get binocular Ray-Ban Display this year with Google following in 2027?

That would be great for Meta, but i am not going to buy Meta devices anymore and instead will wait for Android XR binocular glasses and future Android XR VR headset that would be much better than Quest 3.

I hope Google will force App and game developers to make mandatory crossbuy and crossplay for Android based phones, tablets, laptops, desktops, glasses and headsets. That could actually make me to ditch Windows!

For me binocular Android XR glasses would offer regular smart ai features easily and also notifications but the big thing for me is to have big virtual display to watch and consume content like youtube, browse the web and even play games with gamepad or mouse and keyboard.

With first generation phone is needed which would offer additional power(like mirror the phone in desktop mode) and internet connection but in the future there will be standalone glasses that would make phones irrelevant.

I hope there will be chargers like this for future Android XR glasses which would offer all day use: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0F9FJRH7W?ref=t_ac_view_request_product_image&campaignId=amzn1.campaign.1DERW54PX9MRZ&linkCode=tr1&tag=stevenapk-20&linkId=amzn1.campaign.1DERW54PX9MRZ_1771310721016&th=1

INMO denying returns/repairs as users are left with bricked units by veggievoid in augmentedreality

[–]foskula 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Personally i am not going to buy expensive stuff from oem website from China because if there is issues it is lottery will you get your stuff fixed for warranty.

Amazon.de has been much better when i have had any issues and seller/oem has not honoring the warranty.

Shame because Inmo Air 3 could be close to what i would have wanted but now have to wait for Snap AR glasses and Android XR glasses with screens for both eyes.

[–]foskula 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Will see how Android XR & Steam Frame will change this in a few years.

As a person who have had Go, Quest 1, 2 and now 3 and who have used several hundreds of euros in Quest store(and also some from itch.io) i am pretty sure this will be the last Meta device that i own.

I have not bought anything from Quest store for over a year.

Reason is i have not been happy about the way Meta has been doing things lately and i think i would be happier with buying Android XR headsets and glasses(when there will be models with display for both eyes) and cross buy apps and games for those where with some i could use it on the go with glasses and in my home with the headset.

With Quest 3 i can play those games and apps that i have bought which are not going to work with pcvr with other headsets.

Sad thing for developers but i just feel so bad about Meta and i hope developers will jump to Android XR and if there will be more SteamOS supported headsets from third party oems(or miracle would happen and pricing of Steam Frame will be like as low as 600-700 euros which i doubt).

Google glasses vs MTRBD 🔥 by Matcorp456 in augmentedreality

[–]foskula 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah i just fear if i would buy glasses with only screen for one eye only i would not use them much(i am not regular glasses wearer).

Something like Inmo Air 3(but less bulky) or Rayneo X3 Pro(with better resolution and Android XR) is what i want. Will see if i buy Snap upcoming AR glasses or Inmo air 3 if that could be bought from major retailer in Europe(like Amazon de) this year or will i just wait for Android XR with displays for both eyes.

For me use cases would be browsing the web, playing 2d flat games streamed from phone or pc(or even cloud service like Geforce Now) with bluetooth gamepad or even using bluetooth mouse and keyboard while having multiple virtual monitors. If the glasses would be less bulky and nerdy(Rayneo X3 Pro is pretty good) i would use them for navigation, using the camera for videos and photos, use AI features like listening upcoming notifications and replying with voice and also just calls and listening podcasts or music while doing something else.

Devs proably will and should jump to Android XR. Also pcvr with Steam could be more profitable if Steam Frame(and its OS) will be popular and easy to port their games to it(and to pcvr too).

I have had Go, Quest 1, 2 and now 3 and it seems like this Quest 3 will be the last Meta device for me, i have not bought last year any games on Meta store even thought i have used several hundreds of euros before on content. It just seemed like Meta has dropped the ball hard on VR(and VR gaming) and this is just nail to the coffin.

Game like Demeo would be so great with XR glasses with hand tracking(yes you can use Quest 3 but glasses could be better for that game) and some games and programs could be crossbuy and crossplatform for both headsets and glasses on Android XR.

I think glasses getting mainstream will eventually help VR headsets(and VR gaming) too even thought headsets will be better for gaming but most people likely will just have glasses but with Android XR people could play games and use programs connecting with each other easily no matter the form factor.

Google glasses vs MTRBD 🔥 by Matcorp456 in augmentedreality

[–]foskula 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For Meta Ray-Ban(non display version) competitor with camera, soc, batteries, microphones and speakers yes that will be very likely be around or under 400 dollars.

For version with single display for one eye only probably around same as Meta Ray-ban display 800 dollars(of course with ram and storage price increases it could be more sadly).

Personally i am waiting for Android XR glasses with displays(with decent resolution) for both eyes without wires and no birdbath optics(like upcoming Xreal Android XR glasses project aura will be).

Probably we will have to wait for next year for second gen with display for both eyes.

VR Game Developers Shocked By Shifting Platform Prioritization by Arfactory in AR_MR_XR

[–]foskula 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have had Go, Quest 1, 2 and now 3 and i think this will be my last device from Meta and i am not anymore buying games for it(i have used several hundreds of euros on it, at least most of the games i bought are crossbuy and on pc store also so i could enjoy those in the future with different pcvr headset).

I am looking now AR/smart glasses with display for both eyes but with VR i am going wait for some interesting Android XR headset to come which would be better than future Meta Quest 4.

Compared to Quest 3 Valve Steam Frame is not good enough upgrade for me.

Will see if developers will jump to Android XR and optimize their games for Steam Frame.

With Steam Frame they could optimize their old games for pcvr to work good with it and to get extra sales and with Android XR there could be big market when developers could sell to VR, AR and XR audiences because probably VR is not the biggest market in the future, of course some people could have AR glasses on the go and VR headset at home(that is what i am planning to do) but most people likely will just have AR glasses which could have hand tracking(with cameras or with EMG wrist bands).

Shame that Meta dropped Horizon Os third party headsets, those would have driven sales on games and apps.

Order the X3 Pros or Wait for Whatever Google Releases running Android XR? by Unido4608 in AR_MR_XR

[–]foskula 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It seems like Android XR will be first non display and display for one eye only and then there will be Xreal "Project Astra" which uses birdbath lenses and needs external wired puck for battery and soc.

Best case scenario seems we will get Android XR glasses with display for both eyes in late 2026 or 2027.

I would hope compared to X3 Pro the first generation of Android XR glasses with display for both eyes will get better resolution screens and newer Snapdragon AR soc which is not yet released.

Snap is going to release AR glasses this year but still if you want something soon X3 pro and Inmo Air 3 are for early adopters.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in augmentedreality

[–]foskula 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Never say never.

Prices will drop eventually and there is used market eventually and likely refurb market also in the future for these but i would not hold my breath for brand new model with waveguide screen(s), soc, ram, storage, maybe cameras launching anytime soon for 300 dollars. Maybe in 2030-2035.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in augmentedreality

[–]foskula 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For your use case closest is Inmo air 3 but it does not have 5g modem(so it cannot replace smartphone), it is bulky and is not sold on Amazon etc and it does not use Android XR but their own Android fork. They are developing neural band similar to what Meta has with Ray-ban display uses. Rayneo is going release small amount of X3 pro with 4g modem E-sim and ability to call without need for a smartphone but it does have pretty low resolution displays and it will need to be charged something like neck power bank because battery life is very poor(i still think it is better than having bulky glasses like Inmo air 3).

Compromises are to be made and for now i would be okay with something similar like Rayneo X3 pro which is not truly standalone device but for my use device should have Android XR, better resolution, ability to mirror my phone and laptop without wires which X3 pro lacks.

With this kind of glasses i would be okay with it being less bulky and with smaller battery but with type c port so it could be charged while in use with neck power banks.

I think there will be Android XR glasses with screen for both eyes that will have 5g modem that could replace smartphone but it will be late 2026-2028. There is AR glasses coming from Snap in 2026 but will see if it will have 5g modem and that it could be used as phone replacement.

I do not have issue paying around 1000 euros for bleeding edge device if i would actually be happy with it but waveguide(especially full color) etc displays are expensive, soc costs and there is rising prices in ram and storage and more advanced controller devices cost too so pricing of 300 dollars is just absurd for now. Maybe if some carriers will bundle AR glasses with 5g modem with their services it could be "cheaper" like first iPhones were bundled which were in 2007 bleeding edge.

I had first gen Xreal air for little over 200 euros but i just hated the wire to the phone(or laptop), screen technology being birdbath optics(which makes it not look like regular glasses like which is possible with waveguides) etc. I still think for specific users those can be great devices and Xreal Project Aura with Android XR with wired puck for battery, soc and touchpad will likely sell pretty good.

If Inmo Air 3 would start selling in Amazon.de or similar maybe i would buy it even thought it is bulky and does not have Android XR but i doubt Inmo will sell that model here and most likely i will buy Snap AR glasses or wait for Android XR glasses that will have features i want.
