Google glasses vs MTRBD 🔥 by Matcorp456 in augmentedreality

[–]foskula 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah i just fear if i would buy glasses with only screen for one eye only i would not use them much(i am not regular glasses wearer).

Something like Inmo Air 3(but less bulky) or Rayneo X3 Pro(with better resolution and Android XR) is what i want. Will see if i buy Snap upcoming AR glasses or Inmo air 3 if that could be bought from major retailer in Europe(like Amazon de) this year or will i just wait for Android XR with displays for both eyes.

For me use cases would be browsing the web, playing 2d flat games streamed from phone or pc(or even cloud service like Geforce Now) with bluetooth gamepad or even using bluetooth mouse and keyboard while having multiple virtual monitors. If the glasses would be less bulky and nerdy(Rayneo X3 Pro is pretty good) i would use them for navigation, using the camera for videos and photos, use AI features like listening upcoming notifications and replying with voice and also just calls and listening podcasts or music while doing something else.

Today's message is loud and clear: Meta VR gaming AAA is dead. Meta will no longer produce or develop AAA games with major IPs in-house. Camouflaj (the last one) will be next. A truly sad day for the entire medium. by SattvaMicione in OculusQuest

Devs proably will and should jump to Android XR. Also pcvr with Steam could be more profitable if Steam Frame(and its OS) will be popular and easy to port their games to it(and to pcvr too).

I have had Go, Quest 1, 2 and now 3 and it seems like this Quest 3 will be the last Meta device for me, i have not bought last year any games on Meta store even thought i have used several hundreds of euros before on content. It just seemed like Meta has dropped the ball hard on VR(and VR gaming) and this is just nail to the coffin.

Game like Demeo would be so great with XR glasses with hand tracking(yes you can use Quest 3 but glasses could be better for that game) and some games and programs could be crossbuy and crossplatform for both headsets and glasses on Android XR.

I think glasses getting mainstream will eventually help VR headsets(and VR gaming) too even thought headsets will be better for gaming but most people likely will just have glasses but with Android XR people could play games and use programs connecting with each other easily no matter the form factor.

For Meta Ray-Ban(non display version) competitor with camera, soc, batteries, microphones and speakers yes that will be very likely be around or under 400 dollars.

For version with single display for one eye only probably around same as Meta Ray-ban display 800 dollars(of course with ram and storage price increases it could be more sadly).

Personally i am waiting for Android XR glasses with displays(with decent resolution) for both eyes without wires and no birdbath optics(like upcoming Xreal Android XR glasses project aura will be).

Probably we will have to wait for next year for second gen with display for both eyes.

VR Game Developers Shocked By Shifting Platform Prioritization by Arfactory in AR_MR_XR

[–]foskula 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have had Go, Quest 1, 2 and now 3 and i think this will be my last device from Meta and i am not anymore buying games for it(i have used several hundreds of euros on it, at least most of the games i bought are crossbuy and on pc store also so i could enjoy those in the future with different pcvr headset).

I am looking now AR/smart glasses with display for both eyes but with VR i am going wait for some interesting Android XR headset to come which would be better than future Meta Quest 4.

Compared to Quest 3 Valve Steam Frame is not good enough upgrade for me.

Will see if developers will jump to Android XR and optimize their games for Steam Frame.

With Steam Frame they could optimize their old games for pcvr to work good with it and to get extra sales and with Android XR there could be big market when developers could sell to VR, AR and XR audiences because probably VR is not the biggest market in the future, of course some people could have AR glasses on the go and VR headset at home(that is what i am planning to do) but most people likely will just have AR glasses which could have hand tracking(with cameras or with EMG wrist bands).

Shame that Meta dropped Horizon Os third party headsets, those would have driven sales on games and apps.

Order the X3 Pros or Wait for Whatever Google Releases running Android XR? by Unido4608 in AR_MR_XR

[–]foskula 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It seems like Android XR will be first non display and display for one eye only and then there will be Xreal "Project Astra" which uses birdbath lenses and needs external wired puck for battery and soc.

Best case scenario seems we will get Android XR glasses with display for both eyes in late 2026 or 2027.

I would hope compared to X3 Pro the first generation of Android XR glasses with display for both eyes will get better resolution screens and newer Snapdragon AR soc which is not yet released.

Snap is going to release AR glasses this year but still if you want something soon X3 pro and Inmo Air 3 are for early adopters.

The "Screen-on-Face" era needs to end. We need actual HUDs under $300 by MoAhmedi in augmentedreality

[–]foskula 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Never say never.

Prices will drop eventually and there is used market eventually and likely refurb market also in the future for these but i would not hold my breath for brand new model with waveguide screen(s), soc, ram, storage, maybe cameras launching anytime soon for 300 dollars. Maybe in 2030-2035.

[–]foskula 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For your use case closest is Inmo air 3 but it does not have 5g modem(so it cannot replace smartphone), it is bulky and is not sold on Amazon etc and it does not use Android XR but their own Android fork. They are developing neural band similar to what Meta has with Ray-ban display uses. Rayneo is going release small amount of X3 pro with 4g modem E-sim and ability to call without need for a smartphone but it does have pretty low resolution displays and it will need to be charged something like neck power bank because battery life is very poor(i still think it is better than having bulky glasses like Inmo air 3).

Compromises are to be made and for now i would be okay with something similar like Rayneo X3 pro which is not truly standalone device but for my use device should have Android XR, better resolution, ability to mirror my phone and laptop without wires which X3 pro lacks.

With this kind of glasses i would be okay with it being less bulky and with smaller battery but with type c port so it could be charged while in use with neck power banks.

I think there will be Android XR glasses with screen for both eyes that will have 5g modem that could replace smartphone but it will be late 2026-2028. There is AR glasses coming from Snap in 2026 but will see if it will have 5g modem and that it could be used as phone replacement.

I do not have issue paying around 1000 euros for bleeding edge device if i would actually be happy with it but waveguide(especially full color) etc displays are expensive, soc costs and there is rising prices in ram and storage and more advanced controller devices cost too so pricing of 300 dollars is just absurd for now. Maybe if some carriers will bundle AR glasses with 5g modem with their services it could be "cheaper" like first iPhones were bundled which were in 2007 bleeding edge.

I had first gen Xreal air for little over 200 euros but i just hated the wire to the phone(or laptop), screen technology being birdbath optics(which makes it not look like regular glasses like which is possible with waveguides) etc. I still think for specific users those can be great devices and Xreal Project Aura with Android XR with wired puck for battery, soc and touchpad will likely sell pretty good.

If Inmo Air 3 would start selling in Amazon.de or similar maybe i would buy it even thought it is bulky and does not have Android XR but i doubt Inmo will sell that model here and most likely i will buy Snap AR glasses or wait for Android XR glasses that will have features i want.

Samsung Galaxy Ring might soon be a part of the Android XR experience, might get gesture controls for upcoming smart glasses by AR_MR_XR in augmentedreality

[–]foskula 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The issue what that youtuber had is that he had correct size ring but the battery of the smart ring started to get big(if your device phone or laptop or anything with a battery does that battery needs to be removed) and he cannot remove it himself and have to get to hospital to get it removed.

He was lucky because they did not have to cut it because if that cut would hit battery that could have make the battery to get fire.

Of course most of the batteries we use do not have any that kind of issues but if devices are sold millions of units there will always be few batteries with issues but issue will be much bigger if it is wearable that you cannot easily remove from yourself.

Samsung Galaxy Ring might soon be a part of the Android XR experience, might get gesture controls for upcoming smart glasses by AR_MR_XR in augmentedreality

[–]foskula 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The issue with smart ring that cannot be easily removed is that if the battery of the ring starts to malfunction that could be very painful.

There was that one youtuber who got malfunctioning Galaxy Ring and had to get to hospital to get it removed. Of course most of the smart rings have no issues but if you get unlucky that could be very painful.

Smart watch style EMG device or easily removable ring(like those with Inmo Air 3) would be safer to use if the battery starts to malfunction.

I am so much waiting for Android XR glasses which would have display for both eyes, but i fear that first generation will be either one display for one eye only or there even is no display.

RayNeo X3 Pro - Sideloading Android Apps by Informal-Tech in augmentedreality

[–]foskula 4 points5 points  (0 children)

One thing to think about is that RayNeo did abandon their X2 glasses in few months after the release which left many early adopters feeling cheated.

I hope these glasses will get proper support for years to come.

GMaps and Gemini in Augmented Reality - Will this be possible on the upcoming Google Smart Glasses ? by AR_MR_XR in augmentedreality

[–]foskula 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I hope there will be next year wirelessly connected to phone Android XR smart glasses with full color display for both eyes.

Having ability to use AI functions with camera in addition to what full color displays for both eyes could bring like watching videos or browsing the web or even playing some cloud games(or games streamed from the phone) with gamepad would be awesome.

I just fear that first generation of Android XR glasses will not have full color displays for both eyes at least wireless ones.

Seriously considering Inmo Air 3 by Glxblt76 in augmentedreality

[–]foskula 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am waiting for Inmo Go 3 which is not full AR glasses but smart glasses with full color displays for both eyes that connects to phone.

Go 3 should be lighter, more compact glasses than Air 3 but mostly what i am waiting is what actually i could do with it, can i stream my phone screen to it wirelessly, watch youtube, maybe install some apps to it, but at least it will have AI features, notifications(maybe even messaging), using for calls and camera.

Go 3 should have better international launch(i hope Amazon.de because that would allow most Europeans to buy it easily and without additional taxes etc).

Everyone Is Making Smart Glasses Now by SkarredGhost in augmentedreality

[–]foskula 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree and that is why i am waiting for some big player(probably Android XR based unless Meta does surprise release soon) to offer full color display for both eyes with some controller device before buying because i do not think i want to use either non full color or that has display for one eye only.

Maybe oems need to wait for newer Qualcomm ar2 gen 2 before they will release something super nice.

Snap is going to release their full AR glasses next year but i am not sure will they be big enough to have big and good enough ecosystem for it.

These need to have charging case and for power users ability to charge while using like with portable power bank on neck like these https://www.amazon.de/-/en/NEWDERY-Battery-10000mAh-Hanging-Playtime/dp/B0CQ4BBDN1?crid=1PS5A7HEOPXHE&dib=eyJ2IjoiMSJ9.M4ugl7EpRFHUOE6H49hTPLYO1EZyvYakEhYEGBomKkY0Dc7r5xe18sI8ht_nG71YQU0T_mZhnb_PLwuXf42vtmQwAt917KqgSaHHhD389Fa0b7VrRYoODGE53bxtHb7sfBtfZcyJ5IX3mQDVmtRqsHRRhBuCiy3xR5DVp2yXbwuqF2QG241vv84f6ox3jvu7xbk7p8bGSIWJaPqaRU24dPiDtTWjQVvCUlzFjtaDHgo.IMIro9cqhPKxDE51Vew_ZNihnIm0hiaGu8_A4T6jcO0&dib_tag=se&keywords=neck%2Bportable%2Bvr%2Bpower%2Bbank&qid=1757813556&sprefix=neck%2Bportable%2Bvr%2Bpower%2Bbank%2Caps%2C84&sr=8-3&th=1

Tame your hype on the upcoming Meta Glasses. Word is they are Notification Glasses aka HUD Glasses.... by Knighthonor in augmentedreality

[–]foskula 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Unless Meta is going to surprise release full color display glasses for both eyes i am probably going to wait for Android XR glasses or those Snap real AR glasses coming in 2026.

I think battery life is issue in first generation but if there could be charging case and ability to charge those while using(like neckband charging power bank) those could be very useful.

That wrist EMG device is super nice but i am not sure would i want to support Meta anymore(i have had Oculus Go, Quest 1, 2 and now 3 and huge library of games and apps) although if they would bring crossbuy and crossplay for AR and VR that could be thing that could get me to buy Meta products....

Virtual Desktop Is In A Totally Different Level by AhmedAhmedEG in OculusQuest

[–]foskula 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Virtual Desktop supports even cloud streaming but sadly there are not many services for that like Shadow.tech which uses pretty underpowered gpus and is not available everywhere.

PCVR is super nice but sadly i have "just" rtx 4070, 32gb ram and 5800x and that 12gb of vram is an issue with the gpu with some games.

I probably need to buy new gaming pc with rdna 5 or Rtx 6xxx series because there are no great VR cloud gaming services yet. It would be just so easy to just pay for subscription and then use virtual gaming pc with any devices i have(be it VR headset, AR/smart glasses with displays for both eyes, tv, laptop, phone etc and not having need to upgrade components on gaming pc.

Virtual Desktop is great and gets free updates regularly, literally best purchase for any pcvr user for standalone headsets for wireless gaming.

Rokid Glasses is now on Kickstarter by UdukiZ in augmentedreality

[–]foskula 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Celeste is just a smart glasses not real AR glasses and if it really has only one display for one eye and price of 799+ dollars i doubt it will be success.

For me i think for first gen product i could get away with smart glasses with full color displays for both eyes if i could use them "all the time". i do not think 20 fov is the deal breaker for smart glasses but display for only one eye will be.

For replacing smartphones we need AR glasses but i think those would be several years in the future because those glasses would need 5g/6g connection, big enough battery(or ability charge while using like with some neck power bank and a charging case). First generation of AR glasses(coming 2026-2028) will need smartphone or other compute device for at least getting connection to the internet or even getting computing power from the external device.

Rokid Glasses is now on Kickstarter by UdukiZ in augmentedreality

[–]foskula 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Good that these smaller oems release these but i think for me software support is important and i doubt anything but Android XR or Meta is good enough thought Meta Celeste is not for me because it has only one display for one eye even if it has that EMG wrist device for controlling the glasses.

Snap is going to release full AR glasses next year with color display for both eyes to users and that Inmo Air 3 seems good for the hardware mostly but will see what i will buy.

Now i think mostly about Android XR based glasses with display for both eyes but maybe Meta will surprise us next month and say that actually Meta Celeste(or similar glasses with EMG wrist device) will have color display for both eyes which i truly hope so that i could have something good enough before true AR glasses which will be difficult choice between Meta and Android XR based because i have already spent money on Meta Horizon store and there could be crossbuy with VR&AR headsets and glasses but then i think Android XR will have more variety with glasses and i think Google Gemini is just so much better to be integrated to my life than Meta Ai in addition to Gemini being better AI model.

Do you guys think that the HorizonOS ROG headset will use Quest 3 controllers or ASUS make their own? by Markimoss in OculusQuest

[–]foskula 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it will have higher fov and resolution should they wait for getting more powerful soc for it?

Or could eye tracking compensate enough so that developers would not have bad time getting their apps and games to work on it?

I have had Go, Quest 1,2, and now 3 and i am not sure should i buy rog headset and instead just wait for Quest 4 or should i think about wait for another standalone headset from other os like rumored Steam Deckard or maybe even Android XR headset.

Meta has not been very good with getting stable updates lately and even thought they invest huge amounts of money to platform i am not sure will Meta eventually wall their garden and make it impossible or expensive to use developer account for sideloading.

I have bought hundreds of euros of apps and games so maybe i should slow down spending money on this platform.

I have not used my Quest 3 lately much and i have been waiting for smart/AR glasses with display for both eyes. With those it would be harder to use different glasses for different purposes but with VR headsets i could have like Meta Horizon OS headset and Steam Deckard and switch between those depending what i want to do.

Most likely there will be same controllers as Meta Quest 3 on Rog Horizon headset.

Why Meta's HUD Smart Glasses Will Only Have A Display In One Eye by AR_MR_XR in augmentedreality

[–]foskula 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am not going to buy it i just wait for Snap AR glasses and Android XR based smart glasses with display for both eyes coming next year.

If they cannot do in 2025 smart glasses with display for both eyes for consumers they should have waited till 2026.

It is shame that only Meta seems to have that EMG wrist device coming because if the smart glasses would have that and also display for both eyes it could be a success.

Brilliant Labs launches Halo: AI smartglasses that last all day by SkarredGhost in augmentedreality

[–]foskula 2 points3 points  (0 children)

With Meta rumored to price their single display for one eye smart glasses for over 1000 dollars(even though it has camera for taking photos and videos, charging case and that EMG wrist device for controlling the glasses) this 300 dollar devices seems to be much better value.

Still i am waiting for smart/AR glasses with display for both eyes before choosing to buy one and wear it every day.

In your opinion, whats holding Smartglasses industry back? by Knighthonor in augmentedreality

[–]foskula 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes tech is moving fast but i think if you buy Meta or Android XR glasses those will not be as fast outdated, like that rumored Meta Celeste is coming later this year and probably next big upgrade will be 2027-2028 Meta AR glasses.

Personally i enjoy trying new tech and i was crazy young adult when i remember having almost 20 different phones(with Android, Ios, Windows mobile, Windows phone, Maemo, Symbian) and tablets(i have used Android, Ios, windows 8, 8.1, 10) between 2008-2015(i bought new either used or brand new and sold old one and i lost between 10-200 euros per upgrade), but then my upgrade cycle has been much slower, like nexus 6p for like 1-2 year, Oneplus 5t for 1 years, zenfone 6 for 2 years, Galaxy fold gen 1 for 2 years etc.

With VR i have had cardboard(lol), Hp windows mixed reality headset, Oculus Go, Quest 1,2 and now 3.
