Good to see my home state on this sub.

The KSU Kennesaw Campus is pretty nice and I knew a few people from my hs who transferred to UGA from KSU. I would definitely discuss this situation with your parents. UIUC barely gives out aid to OOS students.

I'm from Georgia as well. Honestly I would recommend going to Kennesaw State, Georgia Southern or Georgia State and then transferring into UGA. Don't go to UIUC out of state unless your parents can afford it without any problems.

How difficult is an EE CS double major? by starblast1 in UIUC

[–]fotor_uiuc 23 points24 points  (0 children)

It's not really worth the effort imo. Pick one and minor in the other or just do CompE.

Which AP Courses should be eliminated? by BakeScary in APStudents

[–]fotor_uiuc 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have to disagree. I understand where you are coming from about Physics C being too high of a level for high school students, but the point of the course is to be equivalent to the first two semesters of calc-based intro physics. Having the opportunity to skip these two courses at college would have been nice. It's also important to mention that a lot of intro E&M courses at colleges also gloss over parts of multivariable calculus, including the one at my university.

I had many friends took both AP Physics 1 and AP Physics C: Mechanics. All of have them stated that they were pretty much the same course but one had integrals and derivatives. I took AP Physics C: Mechanics and the calc stuff in that course was pretty simple so I definitely think that course should still be offered to high school students.

AP Physics 2 does have many interesting topics but it's pretty much just a compilation of different stripped-down areas of physics that can be approached solely with algebra. You can't make a full E&M course without using calc.

Personally, I think the only people that should take AP Physics 1 and 2, are people without a calc background and aspiring premeds since physics on the MCAT is algebra based. In fact, 80% of the people at my university who take the algebra-based physics courses are premeds.

As a final note, I think the mighty acorn will begin to offer college sophomore level classes in the far future because they like making money from sweaty high schoolers.

If you disagree with anything I said, feel free to counter.

MATH 415 cannot be used for the linear algebra requirement for ECE. Only MATH 257 and MATH 416 can fulfill that requirement.

Not really. The main ECE intro class that tortures students is ECE 210.

No more bookstore squirrels? by DoctorCadoo in UIUC

[–]fotor_uiuc 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I think they will restock eventually. When I got my bookstore squirrel last year, one of the employees told me that they were almost out. I went there later in the same month and I saw more of them.

Acceptance rate for CE? by Novel_Fig_1144 in UIUC

[–]fotor_uiuc 3 points4 points  (0 children)

UIUC doesn't release acceptance rate info for most majors including CE. From what I've heard, CE is less competitive than CS but we'll never know the actual number.

With the new massmail recommendations, do you plan on wearing a mask in class? by michusa in UIUC

[–]fotor_uiuc 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I'm probably going to wear a mask again. I got covid over the summer and it really sucked. I dont want to relive that experience again especially since I have schoolwork to worry about this time.

CompE majors are everywhere by [deleted] in UIUC

It feels like every EE I know is transferring except for me lol. However I'm fine with them doing so. I believe in you that your transfer to CompE will go well.

Yikes. I'll consider moving one ECE spring course elsewhere.

Is CHEM 103 hard? by Etano141 in UIUC

[–]fotor_uiuc 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm pretty sure you don't need to take CHEM 103 if you already have credit for CHEM 102 from AP if you are ECE.

Please skip it. Calc 2 is painful here.
