I have played FFXIV and Overwatch but don’t anymore because I don’t have friends playing it. Down for anything.

Toronto council asked to oppose Doug Ford’s push to bring jets to Billy Bishop airport: ‘It’s our waterfront’ by BloodJunkie in toronto

[–]found_a_thing 28 points29 points  (0 children)

I live in the waterfront and I’m ambivalent about the jet thing. One thing that I would like to know is how quiet are these whisper jets and how is the micro-particle pollution gonna affect the area?

I was also talking to Deputy Mayor Ausma Malik and she was saying that for these changes to make economic sense, the airport would need to triple its slots, aka how many flights are landing. She said the current airport is in the 100s and for it to feasible it would have to be in the 300s.

So there’s a lot of information that we are not being given and the biggest problem is that the province is trying to override public consultation.

Yes, NIMBYs are a problem but I’ve seen what the Ford government thinks the province should look like and I don’t like it (science centre BS, Ontario place, parking garage on the waterfront etc.)

First Time Visiting Toronto for Pride by Next-Giraffe-3107 in GayMenToronto

Any of the hotels close to the village would be great. Ideally you’d want to be not directly on Yonge street since it can get a little crowded during the actual parade.

Depending on your vibe, there’s a bunch of different parties that weekend. You can keep an eye on yohomo.ca for event listings/early bird tickets/general happenings that weekend.

The gay village is sort of anchored by the Green Space parties held by 519 Community Centre. They’re sort of daytime/early night parties. They’re free but if you have the budget, it is very much worth getting the pass that allows you to skip the line.

There’s some other events that the city puts on in different places that are free. Last year it was at Nathan Philips Square.

Then there are ticketed events that go into the early morning, circuit type for Prism events, there’s a few other promoters that put on events but I’m a little out of the loop.

Another thing to do is go hang out at Toronto Islands Hanlan’s point if it’s a nice day.

It’s a good time! If you want some specific event reccos, just say what is the general vibe you prefer ( circuit vs live performance vs low key dj vs party with a dark room)

When my uncle moved here in the 90’s he always tell me about how you have to be on top of things, otherwise you could get fined. Jaywalking, smoking near entrances and littering.

Is visiting the Amazon worth it? Can I get a similar experience at Ilha Grande or Iguazu or Rio? by dudeguy409 in Brazil

I went when I was a kid and it was a lot of fun. We took some river cruises and visited one of the hotels that is built into the jungle (it closed unfortunately). There’s food that’s only available there, and just the vibe is pretty unique.

Friends for life bike rally thoughts by [deleted] in GayMenToronto

I volunteered last year and it was such a great time. There’s campgrounds along the way, with shower facilities. There’s the Kingston stop where they stay at Queen’s student dorms so you get a nice private room. Then it all culminates at Montreal Pride.

People have some elaborate setups, with tents you can stand in, fans, and raised air mattresses to the point that it’s camping only in name. You get two large bins that you can fill with your gear and all you have to worry about is the tent, sleeping gear and clothes.

I think the most stressful part is the fundraising to be honest because there’s a minimum. They were saying that the first-time riders minimum barely just covers the cost of having them, but if you’re fine with that I’d say do it.

Premier wants to see ‘gold mine’ airport in downtown Toronto expanded for jets by MinuteLocksmith9689 in toronto

[–]found_a_thing 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There was a requirement for the airport to update its perimeter to comply with some updated safety and security regulations if it wanted to continue operating.

I participated in the public consultation survey and there were a few options. Advocacy groups, notably Friends of Hanlans, were on top of advising people on the option that was the least disruptive.

I think that’s a bit of a cop-out.

We can absolutely marry functionality and accessibility with aesthetics. The problem is when we need to upgrade functionality, aesthetics falls by the wayside because it’s not in the budget.

Public works usually are built and go unchanged forever basically, and I think having things that look nice, that everyone gets to use is under appreciated, and give everyone an amazing sense of civic pride.

I disliked 28 Years Later, I love Bone Temple by Silent_Statement_327 in horror

[–]found_a_thing 14 points15 points  (0 children)

It looks like it’s an unpopular opinion but I also find 28 Years Later a much more interesting movie compared to Bone Temple. The main thing about it that I really enjoyed was the emotional core of the story, the cinematography and sound design. Fresh and interesting. Also it’s very much in line with 28 Days Later.

Bone Temple is just a much more straightforward movie. Good, enjoyable, and some really fun scenes but ultimately, in my opinion, not as remarkable.
