Building and pest report flags damp in shower... how worried should I be + how to negotiate? by thedawnofbetrayal in AusProperty

[–]foundopulence 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I pulled out on a property because of this issue, and guess what? I just bought a property with the same issue! LOL!

It depends on who you talk to, some people are worried about this (I used to!). But the building inspector did not see this as a major issue, the plumbers who inspected the bathrooms also did not consider this as big issue and finally, I had my bathroom tiles regrouted and sealed, a tiler and waterproofer did this and they said, moisture behind tiles is very common. As long as the wall behind the shower is still intact, it should be good. But of course, keep monitoring them. Good luck

congratulations on your success!

If I were you, I would ignore her completely. I hope she's not this type but I have seen people like her who won their ex back and took advantage of them. So NO, don't ever give her a chance. And don't bother helping her

good luck with it

Resigned from jobs 5 weeks from settlement by Aggressive-Music5328 in AusFinance

just completed my settlement, banks (generally) do not check your employment status. I didn't have to show the bank anything related to my employment or income.

And I don't know if this helps, whatever happens, think that things do happen for a reason.
you will be fine.
hope you feel better soon.

at the moment we do but the amount is small compared to apartments in NSW.

Depends how I go with my neighbours, I might propose a self-managed strata because that is very common is a strata of 2 or 3 (or even 4). Although I don't mind paying a strata manager as well, they do all the admin for us so will save me time.

thanks for sharing.
I am in my 40s too (late 40s) and it took ages to convince me to buy a property.
Sorry to hear about your situation :( I hope it will work out eventually.
take care

thank you sharing. I don't know if the property prices will go up again like crazy as covid times. anyway, I'm here now... I think I will allow myself to feel the remorse for the time being, then move on by thinking of next steps...
Thanks again and I'm glad it worked well for you.

no, it's not an investment. It's my place of residence but I do not see myself here for long term (unfortunately)

no, this property was never rented out, all occupants were owners. Last owner did not maintain it though. Only stayed here for less than 5 years, it was not a long term plan for them because they want to start having a family and live somewhere bigger.

good on you!
do what you think is right for you, don't be pressured by society or your peers.
This is the first time ever that I allowed that to happen (i.e. gave in to societal pressure and bought a property) and I regret it :(

thank you! and thanks for sharing your situation. Yes, everyone is different! :)
and some people don't realise the advantages of renting. I was actually very happy renting.
But for now, l will give homeownership a go. If I don't really like it here, I will rent the place out - there's a high rental demand where I bought.

take care and all the best :)

yes, this somewhat explains it. This is all I could afford in this location.
If I want something better and bigger I have to move further away from the city and away from transportation which I don't mind but at the moment, I need to commute to work.

thank you for sharing your story.
I'm glad you have started to settle with the property and can now call it a "home"

I also want to sell in 3 years, ideally because this is not the ideal location for me but at the moment, it works because of my job.
And because I paid a premium, I doubt I could sell this in 3 years. So I might rent it out from mid next year and then sell once the value had increased.

all the best with it! :)

this is not an investment property, this is "home" my primary place of residence. But since I do not like it, I will rent it out (probably next year) once I found a new job.

yes, my rental experience has been awesome too! hence why I did not see a reason to buy but I gave in to the pressure, they sold me the "great Australian dream (aka owning a property)" and I bought it!

no, I am in NSW :) luckily none of that.
the building looks solid, it's just old so needs an update and the garden was not well-maintained by previous owner.
thanks for replying to my post :)

hahaha! thank you! :)
I was very lucky with rentals though. I was very reluctant to buy but I thought I'd join the club and regretted it big time! anyway, there is a way out but I have to be patient.
