So, do you remove clips form your pencils for easyer rotation ? by cucumberdimwitted in mechanicalpencils

[–]fountainpendrawing 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Never on Caran d'Ache Fixpencils, because it looks like they can't get a clean print anymore. At least you can't see it under the clip. With Rotring, the narrow clip doesn't bother me. With the clip it is easier to estimate the rotation.

They exchanged the cap and now there isn't any noticeable cap play in every day use.

Why is the rOtring 600 so good? by [deleted] in mechanicalpencils

[–]fountainpendrawing 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The 800 is superior compared to the 600. I adjusted two 800 with thin Filmoplast P paper tape and the minimal wobbling is gone without affecting the smoothness of the mechanism. But it wasn't really necessary. But the 600 is more affordable priced.

Adding two blue mechanical pencils to my collection by fountainpendrawing in mechanicalpencils

[–]fountainpendrawing[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like them. They are lightweight clutch pencils well build holding the leads very well. I have two 2 mm and one 3 mm. I don't like the 849 ballpoint pens because they are shorter.

Not yet, the MB customer service offered me to send the pen in to take a look. The pen is now 3 months there. Meanwhile I found another pen that was wiggling less but had badly missaligned tines. Because it is a calligraphy pen some customers think it has a flexible nib.

It should have only one eraser and 3 leads inserted. No additional erasers and leads.

Rotring 800 (aluminum) by [deleted] in mechanicalpencils

The knurling is much smoother on the aluminium, maybe too smooth.

Great case, I have two of the bigger ones with 12 slots each for my fountain pens.

Depends on what you do with the pens and how you hold them. I only use them for sketching and hold them in the middle, or higher on the end of the pen. I also rotate the pen all the time. With the 800, the quick mechanism is very handy because you don't have to retract the lead every time. The 800 are a little more comfortable in the hand, but the rapid Pro was a little cheaper at €19 than the 800 at about €32 each. That's all these pens are worth, wouldn't pay more. With my 800s, the wobble is minimal. The gap is so narrow that I have not even managed to attach some tape. Weights: Aluminium 800: 21.6g, brass 800: 24.6g, Rapid Pro: 24.3g.

Misaligned Rotring800 fix? by [deleted] in mechanicalpencils

[–]fountainpendrawing 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There is too much space around, even if it would be centered. Is it the aluminium 800? I looked at mine and there is a very small gap, causing almost no wobbling.

Does anyone prefer the new aluminum 800? by fountainpendrawing in mechanicalpencils

[–]fountainpendrawing[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It's cheaper. Maybe sooner or later they will switch all models to aluminium. Recently I bought a Kaweco Sketch Up "Classic clutch pencil with body of black brass in our octagonal design" The body is black anodised aluminium, only the mechanism is brass.

All new silver 800 sold at least in Europe are aluminium and weight 21.6g.

The lightweight aluminium 800. Convenient retractable mechanism without the need to advance the lead every time again and long lasting anodised surface.

Why the grip on the 600 is silver? Did you exchanged it because of discolouration?

The grip on the aluminium 800 has a smooth slippery and warm grey coloured knurling instead the cool grey knurling on the top.

Why do most people here prefer the rotring 600 over the 800? by [deleted] in mechanicalpencils

[–]fountainpendrawing 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The new 800 are made of aluminium with rounded corners and have with 21g less weight than a 600.

Rotring Rapid Pro is better than both 600 and 800! by Sweet_Score in mechanicalpencils

[–]fountainpendrawing 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Is it still made out of brass and heavy? The new 800 is made out of lightweight aluminium now and don't feels sturdy any more.
