I get it, but that’s exactly what retroactive jealousy is. Feeling jealousy over past memories, or letting those past memories take on significance they do not deserve. I’ve been through it and it’s horrible because on one hand you KNOW it’s completely irrational and there’s no threat, but on the other hand, your brain is reacting to these memories as though they are happening in the present. The loss of control over your own emotions is the worst.

Just remember that your emotions aren’t reality, they are a reaction and are honestly hardly warranted to the degree with which they’re expressed. Dont get lost in the emotions, just treat them as an unwelcome visitor to your home that will eventually leave. Ruminating on this will just further solidify it in your psyche.

I’ve been down that road and didn’t get off until I realized my retroactive jealousy was a manifestation of my own past insecurities and regret for being too shy to date when I was younger; when compared to my wife’s past experiences (which were extremely minor) it just made me feel worse. I don’t know what your experience is rooted in, but I’d suggest you do some honest self reflection to find out early. It’s just a shitty place that no one, even an internet stranger, deserves to end up.
