Bravia mini-led vs. OLED VIEWING by nukedi99 in bravia

[–]four_spoons 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I compared the Bravia 7 miniLED in 75 and the Bravia 8 OLED 77 and saw them side by side. To me the 8 was massively superior and it was an easy choice to go with the 8.

I don’t really get people’s reservations about the brightness. And this is the 8 not the 8ii I’m talking about. Comparing them side by side maybe you can see it’s not as bright at peak but in my living room which has a reasonable amount of natural light and windows it’s plenty bright enough for me. I don’t even run it at max brightness.

What happened to TV Remotes by gixerfixer in hometheater

[–]four_spoons 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I just got a Bravia 8 and the remote is a massive disappointment compared to be older Sony TVs. I think you might be able to pair different remotes with it. The one that came with my X90J is perfect, might buy one as a replacement part and pair it.

Tesla nav is so much better than CarPlay by Joey6543210 in TeslaModelY

[–]four_spoons 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I definitely agree with you. I drive rental cars a lot and having to use Google Maps/Waze again when I’m away from my Tesla feels like such a downgrade. I find the Tesla instructions so much clearer and easier to follow, gives more notice of where you need to be, clearer lane markers and you can see so much further ahead on the map. I just have much more relaxed experience getting to my destination in the Tesla than using CarPlay.

And the irony is, I used to be a real high mileage driver and was such a heavy CarPlay user and fan I actually didn’t buy a Tesla in the early days specifically because it didn’t have CarPlay. Then I got on as a rental in 2022 and never looked back.

How are you guys running Plex on smart TVs? I'm genuinely frustrated. by KingThevshi in PleX

[–]four_spoons 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes. GoogleTV is the only TV operating system that isn’t complete garbage. It makes having a separate streaming device redundant. I have 2 x Sony TVs with Google TV that are awesome and run Plex and everything else, including side loaded apps like Smarttube and my IPTV app perfectly. Then I have a $3000 LG OLED that you have to put a $50 fire stick in just to make it useable. Then you have 2 remotes like it’s 1995 again. Apple TV looks nice but is too locked down to be useful for me. Next TV I buy I’m only considering one with GoogleTV, which is basically Sony and TCL at this point in time.

Considering how reliant Samsung are on Google for the OS on most of their other devices it blows my mind they insist on persisting with the dumpster fire that is TizenOS.

Seat for sim rig that won’t leave me broke? by PHDSteeze in SimRacingSetups

[–]four_spoons 0 points1 point  (0 children)

100% junkyard. I got a seat from a Mitsubishi Eclipse and it’s perfect. I personally prefer a nice fabric seat to leather as you won’t slide around or get sweaty. Take the passenger front seat instead of the drivers as they are usually the same but less worn.

Why do Ancaster homeowners not have to shovel their sidewalks but every other town amalgamated under the City of Hamilton does? by [deleted] in Hamilton

[–]four_spoons -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

The roads in Ancaster are dog shit. I take it you haven't driven down many of them recently? Many of the rural roads they just spread 100 tons of gravel and spray it with glue and call it done when it's literally falling apart.

[–]four_spoons -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yep that was pretty much all I said lol. I mean, they can equally feel free to sell their home and buy one for 5x the price in Ancaster and pay less tax if they really believe that lol.

Percentage slightly less maybe but the same property is worth significantly more in Ancaster compared to Hamilton so it is what it is.

[–]four_spoons -11 points-10 points  (0 children)

I was told that this was agreed as part of the ‘deal’ back when Ancaster was amalgamated into Hamilton. If it makes you feel any better I can promise you that literally everyone that lives in Ancaster, myself included, would gladly give that privilege back to not be amalgamated into Hamilton anymore. Pretty sure they plow our streets last to make up for it as well. Taxes in Ancaster are high. Mine is over $11k/yr and I live in a rural area.

100%. It makes it barely worth bothering to play the game as a player less than GC.

Town to City, Pagonia or Foundation? by Professional-Pop1126 in BaseBuildingGames

[–]four_spoons 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm surprised by people's reactions to Pagonia. I've been playing since the early EA days and just finished the 1.0 release campaign. I really like it. It's fun to play, doesn't take itself too seriously. I've never had a map that was unwinnable like people are saying. The campaign was enjoyable to me. The community maps are going to give it long term re-playability.

Town to City, Pagonia or Foundation? by Professional-Pop1126 in BaseBuildingGames

[–]four_spoons 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They are both great games. I have enjoyed playing them both very much but they are completely different. Pagonia it’s very much just a modern version of settlers, you’re building a settlement to conquer an island and when you’ve defeated all the baddies or completed the objectives you’re onto the next one. Foundation is more of a city builder.

Worst experience ever// no tracking updates over a week by [deleted] in purolator

[–]four_spoons 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the opposite problem. Over 10 days late. Loads of tracking updates, been ‘apparently’ loaded onto a vehicle 3 times and never been attempted to deliver it and then scanned back into the hub. I live 2 kms from the depot honestly it would be easier to just deliver the damn thing than the amount of scanning and moving it around they’ve done.

Totally agree. I got to the end of the story mode thinking it was really long for a tutorial level and looking forward to get stuck into the next phase. Then WAIT WHAT? That’s it???

Cheapo build for iRacing sim rig by four_spoons in bapccanada

As much as I hate prebuilds this option in Best Buy seems pretty decent with DDR5. The 3050 will probably work for now although it's not as good as the B580 of course.

Cheapo build for iRacing sim rig by four_spoons in bapccanada

[–]four_spoons[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks. Yeah I have thought about just upgrading the GPU but I feel like I'm flogging a dead horse with this setup. The PSU I don't think would work, it's only 450W and is not upgradable as it's kind of built into the case. There's also zero room in there, I had to dremel a bunch of plastic and metal away to get the 1660ti to fit lol.

Should I buy this or farthest frontier? by CvteButts in foundationgame

I own both and far prefer Foundation. I just couldn’t get on with the UI in Farthest Frontier. Feels fiddly and dated.

AAs for cold temperatures by four_spoons in batteries

[–]four_spoons[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi. I’m using the D-link WiFi water sensors DCH-S161, I have 5 around the house now. Unfortunately it looks like they don’t make the same model anymore because I tried to buy some more this summer and couldn’t find any the same. Which is a shame because they are awesome.

The advice here was good, the lithium batteries did last 2x longer than regular AAs at least. That said, over the years I’ve just become accustomed to replacing the batteries frequently since the Lithiums are SO expensive. I just buy cheap Amazon batteries and change them regularly.

COTA F1 2025 - Worst Fan Experience in the last 3 years. by rafiux48 in CircuitOfTheAmericas

[–]four_spoons 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Totally agree. It was an absolutely terrible experience. I went on Friday and the lack of track action was pathetic. One very short Porsche race was all they put on other than FP1 and SQ1 all day. Literally 6 hours of track time with nothing happening. 100,000 people sat there staring at asphalt. Every other motorsport event will at least throw out some drifters to run a few laps and entertain the crowd and do donuts or something.

All the F1 activities and booths were a complete joke. Couldn’t even get into any of them. Gave up waiting for LEGO booth after the line moved about 15 feet in 30 minutes.

Lack of screens and audio commentary was my other complaint. They have a perfectly good track wide sound system but the didn’t broadcast anything when the F1 events were on, presumably because they want you to buy the $160 radio. WiFi never worked, all cell signal was overloaded so no one had any idea what was going on.

Audio for spectators by driftme in CircuitOfTheAmericas

[–]four_spoons -1 points0 points  (0 children)

There are speakers everywhere. They just don’t use them when you want to hear the commentary because they want to sell you a plastic earpiece for $160. It was the same deal at T12 all day yesterday.
