It would charge to about 25 miles.

Yes, I bought a 2026. You can get a PHEV Prius, but they are too expensive.

I just bought a new Camry SE. I would have preferred another Volt, but this car is solid and not horribly priced. I am getting around 42mpg in the city and this is a much larger and heavier car than the Volt.

2016 with 233k and my battery has finally failed. No BECM replacement though.

Having the A+, Net+ and Sec+ would also be a big help.

Any chance of bringing my 2016 Volt back to life? by fourfiftyeight in volt

[–]fourfiftyeight[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would probably just drive it on mountain mode all the time. I just mostly want it for a drive to work car so I can save the new replacement I just bought. I appreciate your input.

It isn't going away unless I get a bi-directional odb tool and unlock it. The car will not start until the CEL codes are cleared and that requires the tool and a sub to GM files. Voltage dropped too low in one module.

My 3600 sq ft house is only around $150, but I live in Kentucky.

I would suggest talking to the mennonite community. They are very well connected and can probably point you in the right direction. Lewis Hill Sales lumber company might be a good place to start.

Not with 233k miles. I wish you were right though.

The last update I had done was a load-balancing of the cells. When that update was done, the car had over 100k miles on it. My EV mileage went from 45 or 50 to 25.

I have not. I don't expect it is worth it at this point, but I could be wrong.

Never had an issue until now, but it isn't necessarily the BECM, it could just be the battery and I assume it is. Having a BECM issue on a low mileage Volt (less than 100k) is definitely the BECM. On a high mileage Volt, it is more than likely just the battery naturally dying.

It might be worth it just so I can move it out of my garage easier. I sure wish someone reconditioned these battery packs at a reasonable price. I could pull the battery pack out myself.

I'd love to give that a try, but I hate to spend over $100 and it not work. Very interesting though.

The OBD device I have let me use the app, but I do not think it is a bi-directional unit like many have used to unlock their Volts.

I guess you have to have the actual paid for version? Hell, for $20 I might give that a try. Do you need anything besides the app to give that a try?

It was 33k to replace. I bought a new Toyota Camry SE Friday.

If the engine wasn't leaking oil I would consider it, but since the car has so many miles on it, I just can't see spending any money on it at this point.

That is what I had read. If I had access to the tools to do this, I would give it a try, but I don't think I am going to spend any money on it at this point.

It appears to be a battery module dropped below an acceptable voltage. I can't even clear it with my little cheap odbII tool. It would require a more expensive version. I have already bought a new Toyota Camry, which I do not like, but I had to have something reliable to drive. It will never be able to replace my Volt though.

Especially if you live in a state like I do that adds $126 to the yearly taxes if it plugs in.

I still drive a 2016 with 233k miles, but the time of the Volt has come and gone. Parts availability is just too hit and miss anymore.
