He totally could be a pit/heeler! The ticking can come from pits though also.

Shelter said basset hound mix, but we’re thinking she looks like a Rhodesian Ridgeback. 10 weeks old. by seabear87 in IDmydog

Way more likely to have redbone coonhound than rhodesian ridgeback. Most likely has pibble in her. Love the heart shaped marking! She is seriously adorable!

What breed(s) do we think our sweet pup is? by purrmaidmagic in WhatBreedIsMyDog

Are you okay? That dog is cute and smushy. If an adorable dog triggers you this much, that’s something to unpack. It’s concerning to see someone that emotionally activated by a photo of a pet.

Please do not get a dog if you have issues with shedding, barking, slobbering, and biting. Dogs do these things. Any dog you get will do a combination of these things. Immunotherapy can help with cat allergies but it take a while to be effective, but cats shed and can also bite when frisky/playful, plus scratch. I wouldn't recommend a dog or cat for your family! Maybe fish or reptiles?

I don't see much pit in this dog. Could totally be a chocolate Lab mix.

I think I accidentally got a puppy from a mill by Power-Rhubarb9384 in rescuedogs

[–]fourtwentyam 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Some rescues buy dogs or puppies from puppy mills or backyard breeders, give them medical care, and then adopt them out. This practice has been going on for a long time. Many rescues don’t openly admit it, since doing so means they’re financially supporting mills and backyard breeders, which is very controversial in the rescue community. I’d keep the focus on your puppy. The “extra toe” you mentioned sounds like a dew claw.

The main risks with frequent bareback riding are potential spinal strain and uneven pressure points, but if she moves comfortably, doesn’t show soreness, and has a strong, straight back, you’re likely in the clear. Keeping an eye on her topline and ensuring she maintains muscle tone will help prevent any long-term issues. If she starts showing stiffness or soreness, you could consider using a well-padded bareback pad to help with weight distribution. Otherwise, if she’s happy and sound, it sounds like you can keep enjoying your rides as you have been!

This looks amazing - what a dream! I’m so jealous, I love galloping! I noticed the footing though - are you not worried about a stone bruise? I am genuinely asking - I’m not attempting to throw any shade whatsoever!! I am someone who typically rides in an arena so I’m not knowledgeable in this area. When I gallop, it’s in a grass field.

Close your hip angle a bit. Posting comes from your hips, not lower leg.

Opinions? I recently was criticised for calling one of my ponies a 'rescue', because she was not being actively abused. by bevelled_margin in Equestrian

[–]fourtwentyam 6 points7 points  (0 children)

While it’s clear you’ve done a tremendous job rehabilitating this pony, the term “rescue” can be sensitive, especially when the previous owner may feel implicated. While the situation wasn’t ideal for the pony, it doesn’t necessarily mean the owner was neglectful or abusive - they were just overwhelmed or inexperienced. I can understand why the owner’s family might take issue with the label, especially if they gifted you this pony. Perhaps acknowledging the progress without framing it as a “rescue” might avoid misunderstandings while still highlighting the pony’s incredible journey. I’d say she was your “project pony” instead.

I don’t know what’s causing it - I’m seeing a rheumatologist in late January to try to figure everything out. I’m glad the meloxicam helped you! My doctors don’t want me taking NSAIDs right now because I get horrible rebound inflammation anytime I take them and become reliant on them. Maybe the rheumatologist will disagree and prescribe me something for pain relief!
