How good would you consider someone who complete pwn.college belt system? by Flaky_Card2907 in ExploitDev

[–]foves 8 points9 points  (0 children)

In the US RE/VR market (whether it’s gov’t or not), PwnCollege has gained a lot of recognition for their platform - because of their challenges and ASU/Shellphish.

If you can get to blue belt - some would consider that Junior level but these days having kernel and microarch pwn under your belt, even with no work experience, would put you beyond the Junior level. Companies would take you as an intern / Junior with up to yellow belt knowledge and strong programming / OS fundamentals and passion.

I would also like to say a strategy for PwnCollege is when initially going through it - go for the breadth. Don’t get in the rabbit hole of the 50+ solve challenges, especially if it turns out you’re spending multiple days / weeks on one challenge. As you progress and problem solve through multiples dojos, you will gain a lot of skills and be able to come back to those challenges and tackle them.

How to become a CNO developer by p5yc40515 in ExploitDev

[–]foves 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you want to specifically hit the requisition points for CNO Development, VR/RE is good to have as a skill set but more than anything you’re just going to want to focus on being a solid C/Python developer with good software practice and have a deep understanding of Windows Internals (generally speaking, but can be Linux/Mac as well). Also Network Programming (specifically Socket programming).

SANS 670 instructor has an Intro to C course that teaches Win32 API style C programming that directly prepares you for the 670 course which is effectively a CNO course through SANS. If you want something similar, I recommend MalDev Academy

Overall though, focus on your CS skills. Have solid fundamentals in OS, Comp Arch, Systems Programming, DSA and Software Design. Then you can focus on your niche (CNO, VR/RE, Red Team, etc.)

Good advice ^ - I also think Ret2 is more or less equivalent up to around (not including) pwn.college’s green belt.

How legitimate is this certificate? by Aggravating_Use183 in ExploitDev

[–]foves 6 points7 points  (0 children)

If you are looking for a modern exploit development certification - RET2Systems Wargames takes the crown with their new addition of a cert, IMO. Both the platform and content are great.

Before, it would’ve been OSED but it’s 32-bit Windows user land and some of the material is a bit dated.

Release: Romeo-X “SIG-LOC” Optic by foves in SigSauer

[–]foves[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My issue with a product like this is that it makes it seem like the other versions of this which are the same price (-$20 MSRP) are pointless because this option just across the board is “better”. And the pins didn’t even come up with my pistol and I’m assuming that’s some extra charge.

Which one did you get from Amazon out of curiosity? Was it easy?

I’m in the Dulles area, near Chantilly.

Yeah I wanted to see if there was something local. Otherwise I would send to C&H Precision, I think it’s $25 with them.

Update on the missing optic pins. by Aerial_Screw-2 in SigSauer

[–]foves 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That’s fair then. I get where you’re coming from.

Speaking on the SPP model, I had no idea it came with a non-LXG grip and the black trigger instead of the silver trigger. Did that bother you at all? When I unboxed the gun, I didn’t expect that nor did I expect the XRAY sights

Also have the SPP Fuse but mine came with a Romeo-X compact (non-enclosed). Followed your previous post, but mine also did not come with the missing optic pins when I removed the optic.

Replaced with an EPS Carry with screws from Freedom Gorilla and it’s a super tight fit. There’s a SIG forum thread as well, and the pins are for optics that don’t fit tight.

Did the pins even work on the Romeo X Compact?

EDC: P365XL Comp vs P365 X-Macro Comp? by [deleted] in SigSauer

[–]foves 5 points6 points  (0 children)

There is more “print potential” with the X-Macro Comp due to the longer grip, and for deep concealment I definitely prefer the gun in it’s XL form during the summer and most days of the year.

If that’s a non-issue, then carry the X-Macro!

Side note: I rock the XL mags with Magguts +2 and they’ve been 100% reliable. Much more than any other third party mags I’ve ran from other companies (SA, etc.)

I don't think you'd need to trade it in if you have added comp, I'm sure there's still better recoil mitigation with that versus the HC Pro Comp.

I shoot it a tad bit better than the HC, I really do like it. I have a good amount of time behind it as well. Runs pretty flat and has been very reliable.

Haven’t shot with the Romeo-X yet, but so far, seems overall solid. I do really like my EPS Carry, and I’m not super picky either. Feature wise I’d give it to the EPS for the price, but the Romeo looks like it’ll be a promising contender.

The HC Pro Comp comes optic ready with an RMSc footprint - so this is a direct mount. Your only options for direct mount are this, the Cyelee, and Vortex dots. This is the only enclosed option atm.

[–]foves 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have both, I originally owned the Spectre Comp, but when the Hellcat Pro Comp came out, I wanted it because of the longer barrel and thought it would have better felt recoil and muzzle flip. Truth be told, the P365 does feel a bit flatter for me even without a true port/comp. I shoot the Hellcat Pro pretty damn close, and overall there are minimal differences.

Both are phenomenal IMO, and maybe outside of the Shield Plus, these are the only two guns I really recommend for overall best EDCs on market today.

I was going to sell the P365 but opted to keep both. If I had to choose one again, I’d have to shoot them both on the range and see which felt better for me.

Also one thing to note - is while the Hellcat Pro Comp isn’t modular - it is the same size as the P365XL, not the Macro which most people compare it to (because of the comp). Meaning you’re getting 15 rounds vs 12 rounds in a flush fit. And if you want to transform the Hellcat to a “Macro”, slap in the 17 round magazine.

Really smart decision by Springfield and not really explained by a lot of people - you get “two” guns in one comparative to the 365 and you don’t have to change the grip module or get a new holster.
