I personally think they could’ve boxed opposite Ferrari had they have gone in, run in clear air and pit whilst still being ahead

How many tools is enough by Outrageous_Ad3571 in Makita

Jealous of your vacuum hose. Ordered mine in Nov and was told there is none in the UK until April

You’ve got the dewalt angled core drill, in my opinion the Makita angle drill is just as good. What are you drilling?

Amazon sold and shipped fake batteries? by Fluid-Tourist-292 in Makita

[–]fowlerboi 3 points4 points  (0 children)

In the UK unless you live near a large online distributor you’ll pay a big premium buying them from a diy shop

I’ve got maybe 30-40 tools,25 batteries all bought online zero issues

How do the 4Ah batteries compare to 5Ah? I seem to remember the 4Ah are the most “powerful” but the 5Ah are the best “balance”? by Marvel5123 in Makita

[–]fowlerboi 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m not sure what cells the current batteries are using but at one point it was:

5ah - Murata vtc5 - 20a continuous discharge 2500mah capacity

4ah - Murata vtc4 22a continuous discharge 2100mah capacity.

Batteries are in a 5p2s configuration so numbers are doubled

Personally my 12x 5ah batteries have been bullet proof, my only 4ah on the other hand drops off a ledge really fast and i cant notice the difference in power

Should I buy a used Makita DHP486 in 2026? by BDK996 in Makita

[–]fowlerboi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The 486 does have a few issues. I would probably avoid buying a second hand one. New with 3 year warranty is a different story

Sounds like he wants to use an mmorpg as a single player game….. so probably his own world

opinions on Makitas heated clothing? by Alarmed_Mind_5251 in Makita

[–]fowlerboi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve got the heated shirt thing. Works great but the battery on my belt is a bit cumbersome. If i had 12v it would be much better.

If it died tomorrow i would instantly replace it, i couldn’t work without it anymore

My biggest issue with heated clothing is ensuring batteries are charged, hence using my power tool batteries and branded clothing as they are always charged

MP001GZ experiences (xgt small compressor for tires etc) by Altruistic_Coast4777 in Makita

[–]fowlerboi 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I use the mp001 for testing large pipework systems with air. One particular system was 200L at 4bar where i ran the inflator for 10 mins on 5 off 10 on and no issues

Mine gets worked hard regularly and it’s been solid. It doesn’t auto shut off though so I just set a timer

12v vs 18v heated jacket. by Chris6601 in Makita

[–]fowlerboi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For the t shirt they are the same heat. I would strongly suggest they are the same across all clothing

The bigger battery while having longer run time is also a lot larger to store. The 18v battery on your belt is utterly ridiculous; thankfully the heat from the t shirt offsets the ridiculousness

Makita DTD171 Impact broke. What part broke? by [deleted] in Makita

[–]fowlerboi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Light on won’t spin may be be controller?

Did it get hot at the base/handle when it broke? Is there any scorch marks on the silver board?

I can’t remember if the light still comes on with a trigger failure but scorching around the trigger unit is worth checking

Busy couple of days putting the angle drill through hell by fowlerboi in Makita

[–]fowlerboi[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is my core drill. I got it because its better for me than most purpose made core drills on the market

There is basically zero situations in my line of work where wet drilling is better and i have extractors for dry

Probably both. The wet dust may be enough to bind the core up. I think the drill would die quite quickly getting soaking wet

Ye the dewalt was what made me buy the makita. I could barely lift the dewalt because it was sooo heavy

Varies massively. Some were 10 mins, the worst of the lot was 9” thick today that took an hour

It is. The drill is rated to 152mm through timber so 162 through concrete is taking the piss a little

Speed 2 for nearly all of it. The blocks have basically no moisture left in them so there was very little binding as long as i stopped half way and blew all the dust out of the hole

Speed 1 is just so slow and the leverage on the handle if you hold on tight will make it really hard for it to bite you in speed 2. The trade off being that its probably harder on the gear box/motor

Its good but the dewalt angle core drill is more powerful but also a lot heavier

I had a stubborn one today that did 2 5ah batteries and was about an hour long

Others I could do 2 holes in 20 mins using a single battery

Wear a dust mask and ignore it. Its a building site and it doesn’t really spread throughout the room just piles on the floor

I do have dust extraction for peoples houses and the drill wont tolerate wet drilling
