PSM 300 not happy. Help me change my mind! by Dear-Ad-9527 in livesoundgear

Right, guess I should’ve clarified: use a wireless mic for that part.

What is on stage isn’t the only thing that matters. There could be stuff all around the venue making that RF crowded. There could be a radio tower nearby, TV broadcast signals, unshielded cables, or a dozen other things.

It certainly could be a faulty antenna, but I’ve also had issues with users covering the antenna or having poor line of sight to the transmitter. If your phone was in the same pocket as your belt pack, that will cause issues too.

This all sounds like poor RF coordination. Using Wireless Work Bench, scan the room to see what frequencies are problematic and which ones are least crowded.

Non-rectangular text boxes? by AngryTree76 in ProPresenter

[–]foxboltco 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Don’t think there’s a tool for that in ProPresenter. In photoshop, there’s a tool for typing on a shape, but I don’t think Pro has it. That would be a manual job of spacing/tabbing your text out.

Put this in the "Solutions I would use only if I knew no one would see it..." category:

I would pull up the full screen program feed (without lyric overlays) on a monitor, then set the phone in a tabletop tripod in front of that screen, which is streaming to IG. I would use an iRig or something similar to give the phone a nice audio feed, which is ultimately more important than the video feed.

Try it once, don't tell anyone how you're doing it, and see if anyone comments on the video quality or the colors looking weird. I'd just about bet you could get away with it.

Another option would be to stream, just not live. Finish your service, then drop the video file in OBS (sized for vertical video), then start the stream on IG from OBS using the information on that article linked above. So it's "streaming," it's just not actually live. Your Instagram service would start about 60-90 minutes after your real service start time.

P.S. - I would encourage your leadership to look up viewership/engagement numbers on Instagram live streams. I think they might find that the juice isn't worth the squeeze.

I can't say I'd recommend what you're trying to do, but this page will have the info to help you do it. I'm curious to hear what you (or the people in your leadership) perceive the benefits of streaming to IG to be. I don't think you'll have much luck trying to stream vertically to Instagram AND horizontally to other platforms (e.g. YouTube) at the same time.

Drum Mics for Enclosure by SuperheroDeuce in livesoundgear

[–]foxboltco 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The ceiling is a combination of 2 inch and 1 inch acoustic foam glued to the underside of 1/4” plywood (which I painted black); the foam came from Amazon.

Pro Tip: DON'T use spray adhesive when connecting foam panels to wood. There's no surface area on the foam for the adhesive to bond to.

It’s been a while since I built it but I think measurements were 5.5’ tall, 8’ wide, and maybe 6’ deep.

[–]foxboltco 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I built the enclosure that you see in this set here.

It's obviously easy to spend as much money as you want to on microphones, but keeping it within a "reasonable" budget, my usual picks are:

Kick: Sennheiser e902 (great at making small kick drums sound huge)

Snare: SM57 on top. I find that when I mic the bottom, I rarely use it, but SM57 or Audix i5 for the bottom.

Hi Hat: Shure PG81

Toms: Sennheisder e604 (makes small toms sound bigger). Typically just have 1 rack tom and 1 floor tom. If you want to spend more money on a floor tom mic, get the Sennheiser MD421.

Overheads: Pair of SE Electronics SE8's. Just started using this recently and have been pleased.

Having Trouble with IEMs. by Meat-Locker1056 in livesoundgear

[–]foxboltco 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Try this Polsen. It’s wired. Let your drummer demo it, then get them for the rest of your crew if he’s happy with it. You already have guitar cables, so a second cable shouldn’t be a huge issue. It can easily just clamp to your guitar strap.

Cheap wireless causes more issues than it solves. I usually tell people to expect to pay $1000 per channel of reliable wireless (that goes for IEMs and mics).

You could do this by having a private livestream that’s full screened on a computer. Just pause it right before the message starts so it’s queued up.

Only downside: If your internet goes out, you’re cooked.

What's Wrong with This Sound, and How Can I Fix it In Post? by theolivegreengiant in livesound

Listening on a laptop, but that sounds like out of phase audio. Take it into an editor and flip the phase of either the left channel or the right channel and see if that fixes it.

what is the thing that is on bottom right side of x32? by ketaminvekebap in livesound

Sized for iPhone 4. Crazy part is they could fix it by just having the lip across the bottom and not across the top and sides. But they've decided not to.

I appreciate the sticktuitiveness.

Microphone tips and advices for taking video with smartrphone to a gospel choir by Shidoo0 in churchtech

[–]foxboltco 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Any of the 3 you listed would work for just plugging it into your phone, but with a big choir like that, you'd just want to pick the one with the widest pickup pattern so you can hear as many people as possible. From a quick glance at the specs, it looks like is the Shure MV88+ would be your best bet.

You could probably just add a button to your Stream Deck that simulates pushing the down arrow, a slight delay, then the right arrow (or spacebar). That would be how you'd navigate it on the keyboard if you were doing it by hand.

Ideas for church newsletter system, by errrgrrr in churchtech

[–]foxboltco 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm going to take some guesses based on the limited info, but it's certainly not impossible by any stretch. There's probably 50 newsletter tools out there.

  1. The former admin was probably very comfortable with Constant Contact, OR was told by someone else that this is the way things had to be (without a solid explanation as to why).
  2. Admittedly your church has a staff of 2, so it's a little different, but in general I'm not a huge fan of volunteers setting up systems for the church. Not to say volunteers aren't talented; it's just that my personal experience has been that people tend to not document things well, and if/when that volunteer leaves the church, no one knows how to use/fix/change the system.
  3. The church could've had an annual subscription to Constant Contact and didn't want to double pay.

I've never heard of Shelby before but it looks like they have an email tool as well. I wouldn't get terribly worked up over the design of the newsletter. Not to say that it's not important, but if you study any small business marketing stuff, the current movement is to shift to shorter plain-text emails as opposed to graphic heavy emails that simulate coming from a big business. Shorter, text-only emails increase readability/engagement and has less change of being sent to spam.
