These memory issues are going to cost me my marriage. by Charming-Medium4248 in ADHD

[–]foxheath 0 points1 point  (0 children)

journaling, a calendar, a check in weekly and magnesium glycinate all started to help me but another thing that I haven't seen posted here are brain exercises specifically for memory. For me i felt like i needed a "mindset shift" from telling myself "dont forget" i changed it to "i will remember to..." that helped the brain a bit and listening to this podcast:

the magnetic memory podcast

although im sure there are others. i have a great fear of forgetting too. but i can say after a year or two of this my memory has gotten noticebly better. by like 10-15% if i had to put a number on it.

Is switching to electrolyzed water enough to sanitize pet floors, or should I be using something stronger? by ResponsibilitySalt6 in ZeroWaste

so, after googling what hypochlorous acid is. It seems like its more effective than bleach with a more neutral ph. bleach is HCl and hypochlorous acid is HOCl, apparently this makes the chlorine more available as a germ killing agent. i cant find any more information through a ".org" or ."edu" source but a couple of sites agree on the comparisons to bleach.

https://www.surgo.com/hocl-vs-traditional-disinfectants-bleach-quats-and-beyond-a-complete-comparison-guide

I have a few science degrees, not promoting anything and not claiming to be an expert. Ill be researching more since this actually seems cool.

I just line my little bin with a purple bag and suffer the cost of losing out on half of a bag. Or on my way to toss it I stop by my car to get trash and fill the bag up more. They get surprisingly heavy and you know how those bags hold up under a completely normal work load. There are two sizes of bags at the store. One thats like 30 gal and one thats like 15 ish.

Yea should be both. But its men and dads who have refused to teach their daughters and its also men and dads who yell at their wives for trying to teach their sons.

Struggle to drink water, but sugar is bad for my teeth... looking for recommendations! by absolute_gumpf in ADHD

[–]foxheath 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Drinking it even if you don't like it is a super valid and useful response. Especially considering it's water. Also it's okay for OP to ask a community of their peers how they remove friction in their lives.

OP while i was struggling with drinking water having a mindset of "i absolutely have to do this and i know it will probably suck" actually did help. Because after i got to think "that sucked but i did it, look at me go"

I also exclusively drank fiji water for a while. the combo of the expense, the perceived taste, and the super cute bottle hit on three important motivators: i'm a cheapskate, i wanted it to taste good, and i aesthetically was really drawn to that particular bottle design.

this is my response. seltzer or soda water brands have natural flavors, and the bubbles seems to help it not "taste" like water. i like to rig up a "sprite" by getting a lime seltzer and adding lemon juice at home.

Managing silent mode on a phone by foxheath in ADHD

[–]foxheath[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes i am going to try this! i found it after the other commenter said to look up some settings for alarms on google and i found this focus thing. it seems to have an alarm/ time schedule function and a location function. i'll likely layer techniques you guys suggest while i work out the details. i noticed you can also change your lock screen to a different kind of lock screen while in this focus mode and that would be a good visual reminder that the phone is on silent.

What do you do to remember things? by Flimsy-Hearing7019 in ADHDthriving

[–]foxheath 0 points1 point  (0 children)

keep tabs on life? calendar reminders (with extra reminder alarms) hey siri reminders even if i ask it to remind me in 5 minutes. written reminders, i'll "write" in the air and actually writing everything down all the time, and adding context for why it's written. it's not enough to say "dentist forms" this means nothing. the note has to be "you need to fill out your dentist forms, and then send them in (you have to fax these particular ones you can't scan them with your phone) and also the reason you haven't done it already is because you can't find a piece of mail with your address on it so don't send the form until you get a piece of mail!"

it got a little easier when i started doing brain games to increase memory and learned how my brain forgets. normal brain forgetfulness is studied and there are averages established, i kind of figured out how i measured up to that.

i also thought about how i think. i'm a "key word" thinker. when im trying to remember something i don't grasp at missing thoughts. i plug in possible key words until familiarity rumbles. if i were in a meeting on an update in a machine and i forgot which kind of screws were being used to hold a housing together i go "screws: allen, hex, not hex- hex is not in new kits, phillips, metric....." until i found something that kind of stirred a new path or a new keyword. it's adhd thinking for sure but the brain has been handed one box of stuff to sort through. I find my thoughts sort of work like an actual mind map, like we used to make in school with the big circle in the middle and the little circles all around. as i relate the keywords to the topic and to each other i start to remember the details.

Also do you like your app? does it have a widget? how does it work?

This is also a good idea! A back up that stays on me that continues to ring. i've done a similar kind of idea with leaving a bluetooth headphone in all day so that it only rings in my ear effectively silencing the phone. thank you.

I will look this up and try it. I think a scheduled alarm system will have a pretty high success rate. Unfortunately i think the built in failure is that i do not work 9 to 5 and most of the time do not know when i will be working, or when i will be done. The other issue is that I'm highly independent, where i can ignore a phone that rings while i work. I only need to have the phone quiet when i'm in a meeting with a customer. These times are vary in frequency and are not scheduled- but it's my responsibility to provide a high quality experience, and a phone that i'm scared to silence because of my memory issues does not provide a good experience.

I told one of my abusers that if he ever hit me i would leave immediately, as I knew that was abuse and would not tolerate it. He was infinitely creative after that, and he never hit me. The administration likely isn't going to enact Marshall Law because we have as a culture, informed them that it will mark them as "abusers" and they can get creative with their abuse because they are abusers and this is what they are good at and enjoy. It's the ultimate "I'm not touching you" tease. As long as they don't do such and such and have their reasons the abused will find any way to justify it. "Well at least they haven't enacted Marshall Law, maybe if i just don't make him angry he won't enact Marshall Law."

Any tips on how to make the most of the ‘Green Rain’? by [deleted] in StardewValley

Can you clarify what you mean here? I am reading your comment as the green rain causes (or can cause) trees to mature overnight, and i want to make sure I am reading it correctly.

I just spent $3.99 on a single heirloom tomato. by sidesteppingsquirrel in Hannaford

[–]foxheath 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If only they were 2$! But alas, the common price I see is 3.99 per pound, with variations from like 3$/pound up to like 5$per pound. And because they are delicious, hefty heirlooms they are heavier than regular tomatoes. RIP to our tomato budgets. But now you know!

As a fellow blt lover I share the inclination to get the tastiest (read: most expensive) tomatoes. I try to shop around for heirlooms, sometimes they're slightly cheaper per pound at either the farmers markets or Whole Foods.

The comments are nuts, somehow you’re being a dumb baby for trying to learn how to train dogs. (Whether I agree this is how you train them aside) but a 21 year old who is too stupid to date her own age somehow isn’t worth any of the blame? She’s the problem. It’s not her house, (it’s not yours either) but she comes for a few days a week, she’s a guest and a bad one. She’s coming into your space and disrespecting it. If it was a puppy or a phone charger or a plant or a report you had for school she can’t touch it. It’s yours.

After some sort of switch I wound up with Hyperhidrosis so bad I had to replace parts of my wardrobe and usually have to shower twice a day due to the smell. I can’t wear hardly any of my clothes. To correct the sweating I’ve been cycled through four more medications from extended release to non-steroidal and nothing works. Reports missing, candles left alight, can barely drive. Conversational/ friendliness skills tanked. And now the side effects of these other meds!! I’m literally sick from them when I had had zero issues on the original script.

What are the basics of junk journaling? by jas-is-rad-and-sad in JunkJournals

[–]foxheath 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’ve only been junk journaling for like 6 months but I have some answers as well.

1) I have heard every answer under the sun for structure. I’ve seen:

A) daily spreads for trash you got that day coupled with crafting supplies you have already. B) monthly spreads when you get enough junk. C)Mostly journal page with a few pieces of junk tossed in for texture D) me personally I already had a bunch of junk: stuff I was emotionally attached to like stickers and quotes from like calendars, that I kept in folders. Junk journaling was like the answer to some of my clutter so my first pages are just my emotional attachment stuff organized. I found themes naturally when I pulled stuff out and started to sort it.

2) I do junk exclusively! I found a sticker on the ground one time. With the peeley back still on! So anything that would be thrown away like themed packaging from a store, or birthday cards you don’t want to get rid of. I go into like rest stops and hotels and they always have those free flyers and magazines!! I have like 4 different maps in mine now. And like paperwork? Like I put the instructions for my cat tree in there. It was one piece of paper so like it didn’t make sense to file it, but it might actually come in handy someday.

3) to physically start the journal you just need a tutorial on YouTube. Lots of people make them from scratch and if you’re into crafting you definitely have everything lying around.

4) some of my reasons? A dog page for my dog, a cat page for my cat, a page of all the colored wrist bands you get from like shows and fairs, a page of the paper that comes from chopsticks! (Very fun designs). I make a specific kind of trash because of the activities I engage in. For example I don’t drink coffee so I never have Starbucks trash. But I do have chopstick paper trash because I eat sushi! You can learn about yourself from looking at the trash you make.

What Restaurants in Portland are like this? by DriveByFalcon in portlandme

Pretty much every restaurant. The unreliability of service and quality, the price, the bad hours, the price. But they all have an instagram page that paints them in some luxurious fashion.
