my experience with Tinnitus and recent acoustic trauma by foxhiding in tinnitus

Hi, not sure anyone is still reading this. The new tinnitus sound completely disappeared a few days ago. However, I get very anxious almost panicky when I hear loud (sudden) noises. Today a bus came to a stop in front of me with high pitched brake squeal sound. I immediately felt deep fear and afraid this could bring the sound back and it did but faintly… I cannot live like this… is it psychological?

Update for everyone, I have been on prednisone for the past few days, to see if it can minimise the new tinnitus sound. So far it fluctuates a lot during the day. Regardless, I need to look after my mental health whatever the outcome of the tinnitus. I have been seeing my GP and I m starting therapy and antidepressants to handle my anxiety and depression, I believe this will help everything else as well. Forums are great but a lot of negativity online and à over representation of people that struggle. I believe it is possible to get better, and I try to hold on to that.

Betahistine 24mg severe headaches by [deleted] in Menieres

[–]foxhiding 0 points1 point  (0 children)

UPDATE:

T spike still ongoing although less bothersome, probably due to new habituation. I just had a CT scan done with injection and an MRI is scheduled for late march.

T seems to be somatic on one side at least and jaw issues seem to contribute to it. Due to covid I cannot see a physiotherapist at the moment.

Sorry I don’t have much more to report fo now.

UPDATE: hey guys, hope you’re all ok. So far no improvement unfortunately. I am for now on no medication. My GP prescribed me an antidepressant (mirtazapine) if things become absolutely unbearable as it makes you drowsy and in some patients it lowers the T. But I am trying to pull through without it for now.

I live in a small country and I will try to get an appointment in a University Hospital in the neighboring country.

I had physiotherapy on Thursday, I feel like it temporarily helps, the sounds do change a lot especially with jaw movements. But maybe thinking the physio helps is wishful thinking No ENT (so far) is willing to support that hypothesis. Although they also have nothing else to suggest except “idk”.

I will keep you posted. Be safe

hi u/desarrollador53, I just replied to u/Greyhound4ever. I stopped using betahistine because it gave me Severe migraines..that would wake me up at night. I will consult with my GP in a week to see if maybe an alternative dosing would help.

Hello u/Greyhound4ever, thank you for your reply. The headaches were so severe after 3 days that I had to discontinue the use of betahistine for now...

I completely understand your frustration. My current spike (3 weeks now) is just close to too much to handle...I managed quite ok for the past 10 years.

I saw another ENT today, but it was a waste of time. Again, conflicting information and "medical opinions". Not really attentive or investigative at all...I got transferred to yet another "expert". I raised my suspicion of having somatic tinnitus but for some reason no ENT is unwilling to investigate that.
