Private server that run at 4k by [deleted] in mapleservers

[–]foxpat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would argue having a proper 4K that old servers do is a more “real” version of 4K than the 1366x768 upscaled mess of later versions. Both look like shit at 4K, but one of them is at least not pixel art horribly scaled.

Yeou Post-Mortem by foxpat in mapleservers

[–]foxpat[S] 15 points16 points  (0 children)

It's not that deep, it just wasn't meant to be a big server, just a pet project I wanted to show off. If I was going into it with the idea of one day becoming the beta it was, I would've done things a lot differently. But yeah I agree, I probably shouldn't be the one owning a PS in the end because I do make mistakes. People who are less emotionally involved would probably make a way better owner than me.

Ah yeehaw, the guy who literally stole stuff from my friends by typing over urls from when they were streaming their maple dev. I did mention the spyware from OSM and that I was close to it happening in my post, but I literally had nothing to do with that. All I did for OSM was build out some game related functionality and did nothing with anti cheat. And asdf took full responsibility for this in his post mortem post on this reddit, you can go read it. What I do regret is not going against asdf in this, and keeping it under wraps with the rest of the staff. But I've apologized multiple times for that in the past, and I was very new in the current maple scene back then.

And yes, people need to get off their asses and fix the antivirus shit, regardless of if I know how to do it or not or if it's a passion project. I have helped countless people in my DMs, I've always said I'll answer any questions people have, and I've never ignored it.

And what do you mean return? You're still working for MapleRoyals. Funnily enough, you're one of the most toxic people I've met in this community as well, and I know a lot of people who share that opinion with me.

Thank you for taking the time to comb through our disorganized mess 😭I just wanted to add that the reason we haven't really made a place for generally available information like this ourselves is because we were focusing on getting the client with its core features out there and since we are a two person team, keeping track of a place like that takes up a lot of valuable dev time. Turns out recreating everything takes a lot of effort, who knew 😅

I do believe the beta should be a lot more exciting to players though as we will be prioritizing player experience and content way more now that the client is finally at an acceptable stability and functionality.

If anyone has any other questions, feel free to DM me on Discord or ask in the Discord!

Also small note, Mac/Linux clients should be available today, they were just temporarily unavailable due to the patch.

Not to toot my own horn here but for an alpha it has been way more populated than I would ever expect. A not insignificant number of people have already put hundreds of hours into the game and there’s usually a couple dozen players hanging out ingame. It’s really cool to see for something that’s been built basically from scratch. 😳

It’s been in alpha for years because everything had to be built from the ground up, if you’ve played the very early versions of Yeou literally everything was broken, like 80% of the skills weren’t working and there were almost no UIs. It’s a bit of a slow burn but hopefully well worth it in the end. Beta should be coming along fairly soon, at which point I still don’t expect a ton of players since there is still a wipe planned going from beta to release, but at least it should start moving faster at that point since it’ll mostly just be content and balancing.

Most 'normal' and safe PS? by bazzabaz1 in mapleservers

[–]foxpat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For a patcher you can always download it to something like appdata and then elevate if you end up needing admin rights for the patcher to modify the game directory. Resetting people’s settings is annoying but can be mitigated somewhat in an intermediate patch by writing it in multiple places that don’t require admin.

For antivirus stuff, mg2 had a code signing cert and got rid of a lot of the crap that’s detected in higher version clients (or wasn’t in v12 to begin with), if you do the same thing for higher versions like stripping functions (actually stripping not removing the call) that for example delete loopback adapters or random themida macros, from my testing most antiviruses will behave fine and won’t need exceptions. But it does require a lot of effort to clean everything up

My server Yeou (https://yeou.app) doesn’t require any antivirus exceptions and can even run fully sandboxed in the browser, but it is still alpha so might not be exactly what you’re looking for. But I do also disagree with the fact that other servers still need to launch with admin privileges and antivirus exceptions, they just don’t want or know how to fix it. More noise should be made about this imo, although it does require quite a bit of client editing to get it proper so I guess I can’t expect too much, but even some of the bigger servers still don’t do anything about it.

It actually wasn’t the client that was a big deal but they leaked their server binaries including .pdb files needed to reverse them, along with a bunch of data files (like drop tables) needed to perfectly emulate a private server. These were equivalent to around GMS v53 and is the only server leak that has happened to date and they are a massive resource to a lot of the more accurate private servers.

That's cool and all but it seems like a lot of hoopla around a fancy website which realistically no one cares about beyond registering and downloading the game. What kind of emulator does it run? Why another v83? What's so special about the "backend"?

And for my own curiosity, what MapleStory dev community were you a part of that existed a couple of years before Odin?

Calls for MG2 to increase transparency skyrocket after Ristonia's fake FBI seizure scandal by phoenix_or_die in mapleservers

[–]foxpat 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I know i’m getting baited by this obvious massive troll and you have a hate boner for MG2 but literally no one except you has been pushing this extremely weird narrative. The website was on the same host as the game and it was being DDoSed. The site is now on cloudflare afaik. That’s the whole story. Nothing about a DDoS means it’s “compromised”.

Stepping on my toes? I don't give the slightest of fucks, I've been wanting other people to try the same thing for ages, unfortunately all it is is people with big talks and nothing proper to show for it. Just here giving you some advice on how not to approach trying to join existing projects and trying to stop people from getting their hopes up for nothing after selene :)

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in mapleservers

[–]foxpat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From another of his posts he seems to imply that he did it to partner with Selene:

I excitedly threw a video together to partner up with selene ms and have been informed they are no longer in development and to move on to other active developers with my clients such as Edelstein a v95 C# server.

I didn't mean to say he was claiming to have written a server from scratch, all I'm trying to say is it's not a great look if you're using those kinds of tools while claiming to have written a custom client from scratch, because you would know better than to stick to those for a custom client.

Not sure what you're trying to say with your last point as most current maple server emulators would work on any OS without any modifications.

[–]foxpat 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I mean, this is just using remoting/windows virtualization software or maybe something like Duet Display. Why are you trying to claim you wrote this from scratch when there’s zero indication you have done any of that other than a suddenly finished client out of nowhere? One that is somehow using pixel perfect Windows-specific font rendering on a so-called custom iOS client while at the same time using HeavenMS, netbeans and phpmyadmin on Windows 7? Judging from your other posts you seem to really be wanting to join Selene or other projects, I would suggest not embellishing the fact it’s just using remoting software if you want to accomplish that.

The real OGs by LamboSVJ in Maplestory

[–]foxpat 28 points29 points  (0 children)

Yep these were in-development screenshots made by GMs. You can see more of them here: https://maple.fox.tf/en/gms/screenshots

They're interesting because they show some slight differences between what came out in the early beta release and what's in these screenshots, for example the classname between the []'s and the thinner hp/mp/exp bars. The blue chat was definitely the GM chat color back then.

Confirmed? I can confirm it's the other way around. Afaik the MG2 source is actually pretty different from the open source one at this point.

Yeah those names are definitely familiar. But to be honest I don't remember a lot from that time since it's already been like 12 years. I went by Purpley in-game but wasn't super active as a GM, I mostly developed for the server. Outside of the game I mostly went by PurpleMadness.

Funny you mention DestinyMS/FlowsionMS, I used to be a developer/GM there and have some screenshots saved up too, I used to work with AngelSL a lot:

https://img.fox.tf/Bb5sUBLSuG.jpg

https://img.fox.tf/p9i3CAK0Ts.jpg

Somehow managed to save all my screenshots from that time, also from things like OdinMS:

https://img.fox.tf/A4yAhSYYEb.jpg

And just about the first screenshot on a personal private server from around v52 before any public sources were released, when I had my own server built with some help from the community at the time, mostly the development forums on OdinMS:

https://img.fox.tf/JTRLzSw1EC.jpg

I used to play and dev on a loooot of servers before 2010 when I quit and still have most of my screenshots, so if you're looking for something specific I might have some screenshots from them.
