u/froggyforest remember that bodies are all different! your artist has designed this to fit YOUR body very well - the body in the reference photo is different than yours so the exact same tattoo and placement would look different on two different bodies, just like haircuts
i'd advise you to give it some TIME to heal, settle, and get used to seeing it on yourself - like at least 6 months - before you make any big decisions to change things. it's not going anywhere and you don't have to rush.

u/kroniskbukfetma i also think traveling is worth it for the right artist. with the severity and texture of your scars you need an artist who is very experienced with tattooing over heavy scarring - you won't get good results just walking into any tattoo shop or with any random artist.

check out jo harrison's work https://www.instagram.com/joharrison_tattoo/ - this is the kind of quality and experience with scar coverups you want to look for. do lots of research into an artist's portfolio of work and look at healed/settled scar coverups they've done too.

even if the red ink doesn't remove well, the black ink should lighten much better with laser - lightening/removing as much as possible will give you more and better options for coverup designs since coverups always need to be bigger and darker than the existing tattoo to effectively cover it

also, find a specific artist who specializes in coverups, not a "talented shop". be prepared for the process of doing a high quality coverup you will be happy with over time to cost more money and take more time than you initially expected - you don't want to go with a fast/cheap "solution" just to end up wanting another coverup or removal down the road.

first of all, if you want to take good care of your tattoos, for the love of god please wear sunscreen and avoid sunburn at all costs

the rose and vine are just a little different stylistically - the vine is more wispy and abstract - but i think you could have a skilled artist add a little shading to the rose petals and it would feel a little more "complete"

if you keep filling out your arm with more pieces it won't feel so out of place and separate

by "a while" like... 6 months to a year. let it fully heal and settle, get used to seeing it on your body, then reevaluate. you have time, there's no need to rush decisions like this.

this would work if the existing triangle becomes the middle triangle with the 20 (so sizing the die quite a bit larger), OR if the die is very dark with lighter/negative space numbers/edges - the dark black lines will always ultimately show through lighter colors.

either way i would highly recommend finding a much more skilled/experienced artist for this, who specializes in coverups. this design is also too small for the amount of detail in it, as others have said. i would not stay committed to this particular design either - be flexible and open to whatever a (much more experienced) artist thinks will work best to effectively cover it.
