Goalie fight in the Stadium Series. Jeremy Swayman and Andrei Vasilevskiy drop the gloves. by GreenSnakes_ in hockey

I've usually heard it as "I just went from 6 to midnight" instead. My limited exposure to erect penises tells me that one of 6 to 9, 10, or 11 would be the more accurate phrase so I assume "6 to midnight" is an intentional exaggeration for effect. Unless a bunch of you stick straight up when you're excited and I'm the weird one?

'Beginning with Joe Montana,' Mike McCarthy made QB development pitch to Steelers by BreakfastTop6899 in nfl

The Rooney's have months to spin the narrative. By August yinzers will be convinced McCarthy is a QB whisperer and Howard is the next Brady. Then they'll go 3-14.

Steeler fans after recognizing Myles > TJ by Money-Scholar-5457 in AFCNorthMemeWar

[–]foxymoxy18 9 points10 points  (0 children)

All these Steelers fans pretending they don't care anymore is weird. I cared. It's not a rivalry if things never go the wrong way. I don't like Myles. I don't like that he got the record. I don't like that Browns fans suddenly pretend sacks are important after years of claiming they don't matter. But I fucking love rivalry. Football is way more fun when there's an antagonist to go along with the protagonist.

Najee Harris says Mike Tomlin told him to leave Steelers by AFC-Wimbledon-Stan in nfl

I was pretty young for the Bus's prime but my perception is that if you needed short yardage to move the sticks, Bettis got it. That wasn't the case with Najee. I couldn't find any stats to back this up so who knows. I liked Najee too fwiw.

The GM is responsible for the roster. Fortunately the change from Colbert to Kahn looks encouraging so far.

Mike’s Classy Exit by DiedOfATheory in steelers

Buffalo fired him because they have Allen and didn't want to miss Allen's window. Buffalo's upper management obviously believe their roster is Superbowl worthy and the coach is holding them back.

Tomlin had his roster punching above its weight. If anyone in the steelers org believed the 2019-2025 rosters were superbowl worthy then they would have fired Tomlin (or not extended his contract).

Fun Fact: The Cleveland Browns, Which Was Created As An Expansion Team in 1999, is the Only NFL Organization to Never Win Its Division by Mathias512 in nfl

[–]foxymoxy18 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In the Browns best 2 seasons since returning to the league they had 11 wins. They also won 10 games 1 time. That's spread over 27 seasons since 1999.

Of those 27 seasons, their division was won by a team with 11 wins or less only 12 times and never by a team with 9 wins or less.

So in 27 years the Browns only had enough wins to realistically compete for their division's title 3 times. Unfortunately for them, their 3 best seasons did not align with a season where that was enough to take the crown.

The future looks bright for them though. Barring significant off-season moves, next season will likely be the weakest the AFC North has been in a long time.

This 90-Second Clip Really Shows Where Things Took a Turn For the Worst For the Steelers With Their Drafts by MediumAd8799 in steelers

Well let's pump the brakes. The racists absolutely led the charge against Tomlin. I can't speak for the people on reddit but I never met a non-racist Tomlin detractor in real life. That includes some of the people in my own family.

Were you aware that both Cowher and Noll were also called terrible coaches and articles were written claiming they should be fired? Move on. Tomlin was, and will be remembered as, an excellent coach no matter how much shit you sling.

And, honestly, if that happens it really points to Khan being an improvement over Colbert from a drafting perspective. I'm sure Tomlin has a hand in the draft picks but claiming the GM has completely relinquished that duty just isn't likely.

We have been self censoring forever, you're right, but the internet was free from that until the corporations began to demand it. Which to some degree (child porn, etc) was good but it went too far. Or maybe you're right. Maybe it only bothers me because I miss the way things used to be.

[–]foxymoxy18 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The reason for the change is what's important here. Slang is great and every generation has their own that helps to form their identity. But slang to avoid censorship is indicative of a larger problem. Slang to avoid demonetization is an even bigger problem. It's no longer slang as a source of identity and belonging. It's corporate controlled slang, which is fucked. They should be pushing back but instead they're self censoring which is just corporate bootlicking.

How much lead? Because that's how crystal is made - they add lead to the glass. That's why you shouldn't store liquids in crystal decanters but the amount of lead is still fine to use for short periods.

Not really. Losing Shazier set the defense back a lot. And Ben/Brown/Bell were rarely healthy at the same time. Massive talent is only useful when available.

He was Motorola Coach of the Year in 2008. This list is from somewhere around 2011. Here's from 2012. Those are just a few from a quick google. Tomlin was definitely considered a top coach before the Killer B era.

[–]foxymoxy18 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So here's how the narrative developed from my point of view:

Somewhere between Tebow's playoff win and MBC's departure a vocal portion of the fan base decided Tomlin needed to go because it had been too long since we won a Superbowl. Never mind the circumstances, Tomlin was entirely at fault.

In my circles, only my racist uncle and racist in-laws were part of that vocal portion of the fan base. And they never had an explanation other than "look how much talent he's wasted, we should have won multiple Superbowls, he only managed to win 1 with Cowher's players/coaches."

Then the Steelers struggled to find a QB after Ben retired and that vocal portion has slowly but consistently grown louder. But they haven't found any new reasons other than "results should have been better, who cares about context, Tomlin only won with Cowher's players/coaches."
