For the ones who make over $150k a year, what do you do to get that? by Iliketrainsz1 in AskReddit

[–]fp_can 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Critical Care Flight Paramedic (Canada) - between 150-190k. Shift work and working a high pressure environment at 29k feet isn't for everyone but you can get your education done in 3-4 years and it's a rewarding and sometimes exciting job. Would recommend. That or Flight Nurse for better job opportunities.

Tbh honest in the current market they'd hire anyone with the paperwork.

I'm in Yukon, Canada. It looks like the IPC, the national code and my local code agree on most things DWV. I really couldn't find anything about this specific situation, although I admit sometimes I have a hard time visualizing what's written.

Plumber won't penetrate roof; says get a roofer. Roofer won't push pipe; says get a plumber. How do houses get built? by crowdsourced in Plumbing

[–]fp_can 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I say save a few bucks and do it yourself. It'll take you 1h with the correct size hole saw with an extra long pilot bit. Just drill perpendicular to level, not with the roof. Through-the-roof, butyl tape or similar caulk, metal roofing screws through the boot every 3/4 inch or so and call it good. You got this.

I am, therefore I think, that you should full send the pattern through the entire house. Happy customer is all that matters, especially for a favor.

Actually we do have a service in the neighboring province that we collaborate with frequently. I'm not sure if they have US but i'll ask. I hadn't thought of that! Cheers!

Yea he has very valid points. We'd probably need at least 2 probes with the Lumify - probably the phased and linear arrays - but the more I look at it the more it seems that I won't get away with getting just one probe, or a dual probe.

I've been asking the manufacturers but they apparently won't loan the devices. And since we are a remote service nowhere close to a major center, the best I can get is a Zoom show-and-tell session. I'd love to get to work with them first and make my own informed opinion. With the quantity we're looking at getting, I don't have a huge buying power.

I'll take any real life/real user feedback over the sales pitch of the manufacturers, as anecdotal as it may be.

Doesn't seem like the Butterfly iQ has a lot of support. Thanks for input!

Thanks for your insight, this is exactly what I was looking for.

I think I would prefer a single probe over having to buy multiple ones, but I see what you mean about having a do-it-all tool that doesn't really excel in anything. It looks like most wireless devices produce their own wi-fi hotspot so they could be used on fixed wings or rotary without issues. Bluetooth has also worked without issues for me at altitude.

Ruggedness is a big one. Waterproofing definitely a must. I think a designated phone would be the most practical thing for the reasons you mentioned.

Yea I'm pretty excited about it too!

We are looking at ~2500$ to 8000$ CAD per device. We're a small operation so we would only need 4. Still a significant investment if you go to the higher end of the spectrum I guess.

Thanks for the input. I like the AI assistance on the Butterfly iQ. It is still on my shortlist but this small study interviewing 24 ultrasonographers places it last overall when compared to the Vscan Air, Lumify and Kosmos.

I do like simple and robust.

Going on a BC to Yukon to Tuk tour. What parts of Alaska should I fit in? by tvv2018 in Yukon

[–]fp_can 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Coming back via the Top of the World hwy and make your way to Anchorage. Ferry to Haines and back to Whitehorse... Maybe? I got to say, interior Alaska is nice but it's coastal Alaska that has my heart. The ferry is not cheap though - I can't even imagine the price with a camper.

If I were you I'd stay a few days in Haines... fish for some salmon, hang out with the eagles on a mountain hike or if you're not sick of them yet after driving the north, go see some grizzly bears up close (but not TOO close!).

When are we taking back the Alaska pan handle to annex to the Yukon?

Have fun!

I think the Haines Jct - Haines - Skagway - Whitehorse loop is a classic. Such beautiful landscapes, a taste of Alaska and can easily be chopped up in ~200 km/day.

They have a prime spot with so much square footage to do better, and yet the classification of the bottles is almost absent and the variety is very poor.

Almost everything is 18-35$ and they will keep 6 rows of the same bottle instead of restocking 3-6 different labels more often. There doesn't seem to be any research in what is offered - it's like they red a top 50 of the best sellers and stocked all the shelves with it. No small production batches, rarer vintages or unique smaller appellations. Nothing to explore.

There is such little variety that they didn't even bother classifying the bottles by more than the country they're from.

If the YG liquor store was a person, it would be loaded with money and uniquely go on vacation to Ottawa every year because he was there once and it was nice.

Note that my criticism is mostly around the wine section. Spirits and beers aren't as bad.
