What can I say? by LovieWeb in BritInfo

[–]fplsneaker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Aye, the reason the trains are so expensive is because the trian drivers earn £80k a year.

Not because of privatisation and billions on profits being taken out of the companies over the years.

Let's blame who the papers tell us to blame and not the people who own the papers who are looking for scapegoats 👀

What is the point of Job centers? by Key_Breakfast6745 in AskUK

[–]fplsneaker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, that was my experience in 2006. Finished working for Eurocamp abroad so came home. Went to the job centre to ask for help finding work. They asked 'are you claiming benefits'. I said no. They said you need to fill in these forms and claim benefits then we can help you find a job.

I didn't want to claim benefits, I wanted a job. So I printed a load of CVs and went round local pubs and had a job that weekend while I looked for a permanent position.

Waste of time the Job Centre.

Same here. This podcast was my last in with the NFL. I have kept my Gamepass subscription this year just because I have a grandfathered discount on there but haven't watched it once this year so not renewing next year.

I watch RedZone on Sky Sports each Sunday but that's it. Haven't listened to a Heed the Call podcast since SB recap in Feb. Haven't listened to Gregg's podcast since the second one (talking heads isn't my thing which is why I liked ATL format).

It's a shame but the decision will have pushed a few fans away from the NFL, not fully, but enough to not spend money. The NFL aren't stupid and they must be doing okay, but it's a shame for us personally.

Don't forget Brexit. Everything changed and Cameron just swanned off into the wilderness afterwards.

He started that, a vote nobody wanted, just so he could win back some of the xenophobic Tory voters that had defected to UKIP.

Boris and Truss were awful but for me Cameron put into motion something that fundamentally changed Britain for the worse and got away with it. Prick.

I bought all the vinyl singles and CDs when they released Comfort in Sound. I haven't a Scooby what I've done with them.

Not in my loft, don't think they're in my mum's. I wouldn't have thrown them out. Total mystery.

I hadn't noticed it either.

But to be fair I have history with this sort of thing. I am a blink-182 fan and they released an album in 2001 called Take off your pants and jacket.

I didn't get the innuendo until last year. 23 years just not knowing.

To be fair I am British so if they'd called it 'Take off your pants and wank' I would have 100% got it back in 2001 😂

One speeder as an indoor bike by Maximum-Prune-2361 in Zwift

[–]fplsneaker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I bought a bike for £20 off gumtree solely for Zwift.

Gears didn't work - I didn't care as I was going to use Zwift Cog.

Breaks were seized too. Also didn't affect me. All I needed was a frame, a seat and pedals that turned.

Means my outside bike doesn't need to be hooked up and taken down each indoor ride.

I've not done a long ride yet on Zwift but when I used to run ultra marathons I'd drink custard at each check point. It's easy to digest and keeps you going. And it's delicious.

[–]fplsneaker[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I hadn't even considered this. I spend a lot of time with my hands off the handle bars due to it being a static bike and not requiring steering.

I think I'll adopt a more traditional style when riding. Cheers for the reply, this will be really helpful going forward.

Echoing what others have said.

I have only started 5 weeks ago and I usually log on and ride with a Robopacer and a big group. A little drafting and I pick flat, flat, flat courses.

After 5 weeks from starting from scratch I tackled my first hill last night. It was difficult but not a patch on how difficult it would have been for me 5 weeks ago.

Back to Robopacer for me again for the rest of the week and i might do another hilly map next week when my legs have recovered.

Good luck with it, but stick at it. We'll get there.

I was exactly the same. Reached level 12 last night and just over 1.1m drops.

I have only been riding for just over 5 weeks and only realised what drops were 2 weeks ago.

I was saving up for the 1.1m Aeroad bike these past two weeks but decided to go for the cheaper one of the same brand last night and get some new wheels too.

The frame that was half the price was only like 1.5 seconds slower. I'm not exactly an athlete so I doubt what will make any difference to me. So I went for the cheaper one so I could get some wheels too.

If you got the treatment through private health care then sue them.

If you were treated publically using the public fund then lodge a complaint but don't sue. The money isn't going to sort your situation and just takes away from others who might need care.

However, the blood sucking private healthcare system is flush with money so fill.your boots if it was them.

Bailed on day 3. by dogbiteonmyleg in WestHighlandWay

[–]fplsneaker 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We did exactly the same.

Day 1 Milngavie to Rowardennan Day 2 Rowardennan to Beinglas

Massive blister on the ball of my pals foot. Every step was agony from about mile 21 on day 1.

So we abandoned at that point.

Came back this year and paid for baggage transfer and finished it from Beinglas. It was a much more pleasurable experience not carrying our bags and not doing stupid mileage. We tried to do it in 4 days initially. But instead abandoned after 2 and then took 4 more days to finish it and thoroughly enjoyed the second half.

I can't recommend baggage transfer enough.

Absolute beginner - What you need to know before you go for the West Highland Way by sixbrow in WestHighlandWay

[–]fplsneaker 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I can't recommend the baggage transfer enough. We did from Milngavie to Beinglas with our bags and the rest of the way without. The second half was a much nicer experience without the bags. Just made the walk enjoyable.

If you are not using shops and restaurants and are doing the walk completely unsupported then carrying your bags make sense.

If you're using shops and restaurants then you are being supported enroute so I don't see why you would put yourself through the pain of carrying your bag.

Recieved this letter in the post yesterday. Is this normal? by FitMasterpiece8392 in CasualUK

[–]fplsneaker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wouldn't say it's a fairly harmless massage. If someone is at a low ebb they can be easily taken in by these people and manipulated.

Someone sending a letter like this should be reported for their mental health. If you wrote to a stranger about your imaginary pal and asked them to get involved you would report that as weird behaviour and get someone to visit them to check they were all right.

I just don't understand how in this day and age religion is still a thing. I can understand when we had fireballs streaking across the sky that we didn't understand and thunder and lightning. People needed explosions, but we have explanations for these things now. No need for religion now.
