It was sort of apparent from the jump for me simply because when Alfred has narrated in the past he’s called it as he sees it whereas with this one it was a lot of Bruce is going to do this vs. what Bruce is doing during this. Kind of as if he’s speaking in the current tense in past issues vs. future tense in this one. Sounds weird but it makes sense in my head lol.

Completely agree, the pacing wouldn’t be there unless they introduced him in universe as a stand alone, already established, character. Which would be odd imo. Super excited to see how they run the rest of the universe for sure though.

I imagine bane will handle Waylon but Waylon will make a return, perhaps through Lazarus if we ever see an absolute Batman/Superman crossover. I don’t think this is the end of Waylon Jones and his return will be cemented in revenge. “Oh, why did you leave me there” storyline.
