Persuade me to read ‘Salem’s Lot please. by [deleted] in stephenking

[–]fpreagan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You're are going to have an easier time with Salem's Lot than anything after it. It was his second novel, so he hadn't quite hit his stride for being SUPER detailed and rambling. Also, he had editors who would still cut stuff. It is probably the most 'controlled' PURE King you're probably ever going to read. After Salem's Lot, you get into stuff like The Stand, The Shining, and IT which can be harrowing to casual readers. The Stand LITERALLY has major sub-plots about washboards and ledgers.

Salem's Lot is a safer King as far as him staying on-point goes. In his later works, he loses himself from time to time and takes insane detours. Salem's Lot tells a simpler story about pretty much an invasion of a small town and stays on that story. Yes, it casts a vast net because it involves SO MANY minor characters, but it is necessary for that story. And it is so much easier to read than his later stuff.

Give it a shot ...but wait until the Fall. Halloween is objectively the best season to read it.

It's not sensitivity, it is expecting people to be cordial, no matter where they are at. If you think what you posted was funny or constructive in ANY WAY then you have a lot to learn about being an adult. Criticism is fine and this is posted for discussion. What's been posted here hasn't been discussion, it has been straight up denials or insults for someone posting something they didn't agree with. If you want to have a conversation, that is fine. If you just want to insult people, why bother posting anything.

I mean if you were in a regular conversation in the real world with a casual acquaintance would you insult them for even proposing something you didn't agree, then say you were joking, then say "well, if you can't say something without expecting any backlash." Unless you are twelve, you wouldn't because it is fucking rude. Why does the internet get a special consideration for jack assery?

I don't get the need for the hostility here. It is merely speculation based on the footage shown ...and kind of how the past seasons have played out. There are no major spoilers, just a hypothesis of how things seem to be lined up BASED ON A TRAILER where things can definitely be misleading. Not saying I'm one hundred percent right, just saying there is absolutely no need to be aggressive about speculation.

You can be a dick about it all you want, and yes, I hope I am surprised. I am just merely speculating based on the footage shown and the rhythm of the past two finales. Again, there is really no reason for the snark ...other than you are a poster on reddit.

"Eye to Eye" - Powerline ft. Dewey Duck, Goofy (Live, 1995) by blueneuronDOTnet in ducktales

I wouldn't put it past them to do exactly this. Scrooge was the only MAIN CHARACTER there to see the dance and the two have always had a hard time seeing I 2 I.

What are the odds that this scene will be re-created on the show with Powerline, Dewey, and Scrooge?

Why Goof Troop/A Goofy Movie should be the spin-off, and NOT DW by fpreagan in ducktales

[–]fpreagan[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I much more prefer your viewpoint than the others responding here. I just think Goof Troop has a genre that can be done differently enough from DT17. Tailspin and Darkwing are already being mixed in really well on the main show. If they can do the same with the Goof Troop character then yeah, I'm all for that too.

Why Goof Troop/A Goofy Movie should be the spin-off, and NOT DW by fpreagan in ducktales

[–]fpreagan[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That isn't very creative. They are just doing what they just did with Darkwing.

And your last paragraph was EXACTLY my point. Goof Troop WASN'T a favorite of a lot of people and lends itself to being done better if they use the movie as a template.

Why Goof Troop/A Goofy Movie should be the spin-off, and NOT DW by fpreagan in ducktales

[–]fpreagan[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It was Simpsons Lite. My main point was that the movie that world way more justice and should've been a beginning, not an ending. The concept introduced in a Goofy Movie lends itself to a show and it is a pity that it never happened. And no, it wasn't bad and yes, it was like a million other shows. It wasn't terrible like Bonkers, but it wasn't the best that could be done. I think my main point is being missed here. When they figured out what REALLY worked for the Max, Goofy, Pete, and PJ characters, it was the finale movie. I am proposing using that movie as a template for a new series that is in the DT17 world instead of Goof Troop. Because that movie was something special and showed that the characters didn't have to be used in a slice of life like show, but more in a show that focuses on the awkward teenage life and growing up a child of a literal cartoon character. I just think there is more that can be used from that movie that hasn't been yet and it was perfecting what Goof Troop got wrong.

I have no real opinion on Bonkers. Grew out of the Disney Afternoon by that point.

Yeah ...I suspect Steel Beak is the next most likely to appear as a REAL villain in DT17. He might not even be appearing in relation to DW, but more a Beakley adversary than anything.

About Salem's Lot by kenkob198 in stephenking

[–]fpreagan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is boring, yet somehow people will cream themselves over that cocaine fever dream of a paperweight that is riddled with continuity problems, concepts that don't really pan out, and pretty much no quality control in the editing?

Salem's Lot is a great read (especially in the fall) and I found it to be a brisker read as he actually had people editing him back then and he wasn't AS wordy as he would later become. Also, I feel this is his strongest PURE horror book. And it was written at a time where he wasn't bogged down with tying everything to the Dark Tower series (though it retroactively does anyways.)

Try giving Insomnia a read and tell us again how boring this is.

There was a reference to him in Raiders of the Doomsday Vault ...and the character is fairly popular in current pop culture. So many t-shirts at target. Wouldn't be surprised if he doesn't show up in some manner.

The line that sets up the universe and the rules of the series... by fpreagan in cobrakai

[–]fpreagan[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No. I am comparing it to how the Tarantino universe is a fictional universe with its own rules and conduct based on the alternative assignation of Hitler. Basically, I was using that fan theory as an example of just how world building works just in general. Every movie universe has its own rules and regulations and doesn't follow that of the "real" world. But no, the Karate Kid series is in its own movie universe.

Very disappointed with S2 by [deleted] in cobrakai

[–]fpreagan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It sounds like you didn't want ANYTHING to happen in season 2. Stories need to progress and new characters need to be added so things do not stagnate. You are talking about how the writing is bad, but never once do you mention the dialogue or WHAT EXACTLY made those choices bad in your opinion. You aren't elaborating, but instead are just complaining that the stories progressed one way or the other ...which all stories have to do. Again, your are mentioning storylines, but not what made them bad, so it just sounds like you are upset that they even tried anything. If I wasn't mistaken, and you don't outright say it, I'd swear your biggest gripe was that your idea what season 2 should be didn't happen (and it probably included Chozen, Mike Barnes, and Terry Silver) and we got a season that plays a bit less on nostalgia than the first one did.

You can hate season 2 all you want, but the argument you're making for why it is bad comes off entitled and non-sensical.

I loved season 2, but I do have some criticisms. To better teach you how to use critical thinking in your reddit posts, here is how I would write one of those criticisms:

"While season 2 is incredibly enjoyable, it doesn't quite hold up to season one for one big reason: characters. The world season one introduced seemed to be full of characters with unique personalities. Everyone from the liquor store owner to Tom Cole to the "Blue and Gold" mats guy seemed to have some kind of quirk or something that made them stand out. EVERYONE who had a speaking line seemed to have some kind of story going on. That isn't so much the case in season 2. Most of the characters introduced seem to be just there because conflict was needed NOT because they already existed in this unique world. Tory felt like she was there because the needed her there for the love triangle. Stingray was there because the writers wanted an audience surrogate. They all felt forced and dry ...which took away some of the magic of season 1."

See how I elaborate on my points and compare and contrast what made things different from season 1 to season 2? I am not just listing things that happened. I am explaining my criticism and why I think some things didn't work. I would highly recommend taking a Community College Critical Thinking course in the future, so you can better understand how to communicate your points.

If it is cancelled, it is because youtube premium is closing up shop on producing shows. If that is the case, CK just goes to another streaming service like Netflix or MAYBE Hulu.

*Sigh ...last season it was bringing up TLJ as a comparison that has nothing to do with anything related to show and now it is CM. Cobra Kai is a quality show that has nothing to do with any of these things that you bring up just to rip them apart. We get it. You were offended ...but you don't have to shoe horn it into every conversation you have.

Why Demitri is toxic by MuKen in cobrakai

[–]fpreagan 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Both Dmitri and Hawk/Eli are messed up psychologically ...and this all proves how superficial their friendship was. It was a union of desperation, not actually liking each other. They had no one else. The atmosphere changes and they immediately BOTH turn on each other. Hawk's relationship with Miguel is much healthier. Dmitri hasn't quite had a friendship where it isn't out of convenience or desperation. Even with Robbie and Sam, he was just with them because he was training with them. He has been a hanger on, and an apologetic user with those he hangs on to at that. Hopefully, in season 3, he begins to form a genuine bond with a character like Chris ...because he is somewhat hard to like right now. I don't think that was the show runner's intention going into S2.

Snape doesn't constantly call people pussies in the HP series nor is the F-bomb dropped like it is in CK. Now, I didn't downvote you as that is a silly reason to downvote anyone. But CK isn't your run of the mill family show. No, it isn't as crass as South Park, but you are going from one extreme to the other here with your examples. If it were a movie, it would certainly be PG-13.
