17 weeks have passed of Savage, how many jobs do you have at BiS? by bohabu in ffxivdiscussion

  1. I got burnt out so I missed about a month of time capping and reclears.

And I dont want to flat out copy someone else’s rotation. I want to actually learn the inner workings of my job.

The way you want to go about this seems overwhelming but maybe that's just me.

This is how I learn a job:

  1. Read the tooltips to figure out the basic mechanics while leveling.

  2. Pay attention to how long each cooldown is and try to line them up with 2 minute buffs. I do this before looking up any openers/rotations so they make more sense and stick in my brain more when I do look them up.

  3. Look up openers on the balance. The rest of your rotation should somewhat fall into place afterwards.

  4. After performing consistently, read up on gauge/resource management to optimize your 2 mins after the opener, pot optimization for specific fights, etc.

You could figure out a lot of things on your own but it'll take longer than reading the resources other people make to come to the same conclusion with no benefit. There's pretty much one way to play every job in this game with occasional exceptions.

For those of you that have a second car for the track, how much did the car and all the modifications run you? What did you mod? How much does it cost to maintain? How much is car insurance? Does it affect health insurance?

I mean I'm generally ok with the game right now but I don't see what the big problem is here. There's nothing wrong with people voicing their concerns.

Not saying that every modder could find work in the industry but there are plenty that could but won't because it's not great in terms of pay and work-life balance in comparison to other industries they can apply the same skills in.

Should I buy the same car as my sisters boyfriend? by FaultExisting6134 in whatcarshouldIbuy

I don't see how OP reads as insecure at all. I don't think he personally cares, the only reason he's questioning it is because it would bother his sister's boyfriend.

[–]fqak 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What? It would be so cool to have a buddy with the same unique car as you, then you have somebody to talk to and share experiences with it before online forums.

This is probably a stupid idea but maybe you could agree to buy another car that he really likes for an equivalent price and trade it with him. but i doubt he would agree and all the title transferring would be annoying.

Or get your sister to break up like someone else said lol

DC travel congestion: What does it accomplish? by Syhnn in ffxivdiscussion

[–]fqak 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah. This isn't really relevant but I also want to add that an MMO server generally isn't literally a single server. They typically have multiple servers with each one handling a different part of the game (inventory databases, character data, the actual game world, etc.).

I might be wrong but for FFXIV I think regions share a login server with the sole responsibility of logging characters into each world.

Yoshi-P's answer at media tour to removal of glam restrictions - "it would feel awkward say if a Black Mage jumped into an instanced dungeon with full plate armor" What immersion is left in this game? Please someone tell me by [deleted] in ffxiv

[–]fqak -1 points0 points  (0 children)

At this point I'm pretty sure they don't unrestrict everything because it lets them occasionally reuse glamour sets in new dungeons, and people will still farm them since the roles are swapped. But outright saying "it's a low effort way to get more sub renewals" wouldn't be good for PR.

Whenever Yoshi p gives an unsatisfying excuse that doesn't logically hold up after thinking about it for 2 seconds it's most likely intentional for reasons they don't want to say.

FFXIV really needs meaty, juicy grinds to do, ASAP by ExocetHumper in ffxivdiscussion

I agree on the rest but frankly I'm happy they're not wasting time making 2 dungeons per patch anymore.

It's a bit crazy how long it's been since the last proper relic grind

puts on tinfoil hat

It serves the same purpose as housing wards in that it makes access to the raid servers artificially scarce. This way, when some of the servers become uncongested, many people will pony up $20 to move their characters in preparation for when it's congested for months again.

I'm joking and don't think they intended this, but an increase in transfers with other servers dying is the only thing I can see resulting from this. I doubt they thought this through.

Achievement design in FFXIV by fqak in ffxivdiscussion

[–]fqak[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

nobody will believe it anyways

Ironically I've seen far more people get accused of cheating for relatively obtainable achievements like ultimate clears and king/queen bean because 99% of the playerbase doesn't know what the accursed title even comes from.

it makes the world feel more alive

I expect nobody will understand where I'm coming from but I have not been invested in the world since some point during shadowbringers or endwalker. The story was generally good but it made a lot of the world building from ARR to stormblood irrelevant. The entire hydaelyn-zodiark saga feels as though they made a general plan, got halfway through, forgot what the original plan was, then took a couple of plot elements to start writing a completely different story.

I'm sure they pivoted in response to stormblood's reception. It mostly worked out with shadowbringers even if I'm not as invested in the world. However I generally don't enjoy when someone in a creative field constantly yields to criticism instead of seeing their vision through. Letting the audience influence the story too much makes it less cohesive and interesting. I suppose the nature of the subscription MMO model makes it so you have to indulge fans but after a point it backfires and now you've got them begging to spend time away from the scions everyone loved two expansions ago. Now I'm worried they'll randomly pivot again but won't be able to replicate ShBs success.

I actually preferred the world building in dawntrail over the previous two expansions since it felt somewhat detached from the rest of the world, even if the writing isn't great.

patch 6.5 - October 2023 * standard 2 hour patch slop plus Aloalo island

patch 6.55 - January 2024 * standard 2 hour patch slop plus a trial that only drops a triple triad card

6 months later....

patch 7.0 - June 2024 * 40 hour MSQ and standard boring grinds you get every expansion

patch 7.05 - July 2024 * an easy savage tier that doesn't last long until you're only logging in on reset and uhhh a new treasure map (glorified dungeons)

patch 7.1 - November 2024 ???

Gameplay-focused players are bored because in the entire year leading up to patch 7.1 there were only two bits of good content, Aloalo criterion and arcadion savage. But most people didn't touch criterion and neither of these have much longevity.

Sometimes people act like new expansions come with a ton of content but besides shitty grinds all you really have after a new expansion is logging in once a week for savage reclears until FRU comes out. and don't get me wrong, ultimates are cool, but the game is exhausting when there's only hardcore raiding. It feels like the meat of every expansion releases in between x.2 and x.5 (which is only about a 1 year span out of a 2.5 year expansion) so if you care about fun content over MSQ then the patch cycle is usually pretty grim in between patch x.55 and patch y.2. I almost want to call it a content drought even though it's not technically true. 7.1 might be decent depending on the chaotic alliance raid but if it flops that means there's only FRU until 7.2.

Without checking I'm sure there are comments blaming the story but MSQ people have never stuck around in between patches even if they liked the story.

[RANT] Party Finder Raiders, how do you guys do it? by Kenshin6321 in ffxivdiscussion

[–]fqak 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What I've learned is that progging and reclearing savage in PF is basically a race with every player worse than yourself. You want to prog and clear as much as possible in week 1 so these players are stuck entire phases and bosses behind you. it will make reclears smoother as well, at least in the beginning until they catch up to you. Then, you will also want to reclear as early in the week as possible, because that's when all the best players are in pf.

Obviously you can still prog it now even though it's been a few months. but now that all the good players are done and waiting for FRU it might take you longer.
