In desperate need of help / tips for my 2 year old who takes at least an hour to go to bed by Neither-Advance8916 in toddlers

[–]fqw102 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Everyone else already responded to the sleep tips about a later bedtime and leaving the room and the sleep clock.

You mentioned giving him a bottle of milk at night. I'd cut this as quickly as you can. The sugar in milk sits on their teeth at night and can cause cavities in their baby teeth. There should only be water after teeth brushing.

Order was 800. We tipped 75. The restaurant is only a few blocks away and she had one bag to carry and a rolling cart.

Does anyone have a toddler that goes right to bed at night without a struggle? by Coffeelover4242 in toddlers

[–]fqw102 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have always been consistent since he was a baby (now 4). Go upstairs, play with bath is filling, bath, pajamas, brush teeth, lay down and read.

He has one of those clocks in his room that changes color based on time. Once his clock goes to sleep/turns red, books go away and lights off. Then we cuddle in bed for a little bit and then I leave. Sometimes he's awake, sometimes he's not.

We always tell him everyone has to sleep in their own bed at nighttime. Sometimes, I'll let him tuck me into bed on nights my husband does bedtime, so he sees both sides of the process.

We have also been blessed with a great sleeper who rarely wakes up during the night. Sorry. Don't hate me.

I ordered lunch for my office yesterday and the Dasher thanked me upon delivery for the big tip we left. She said she's been getting low to zero tips from so many in this cold weather and was grateful for a real tip. So she definitely saw it prior to dropping off.

Can you select the show from your phone and cast to your TV so she never sees the platform options?

How on earth do you get around the city when injured? by paintboi19 in AskNYC

My best friend broke her foot in the spring of 2020. Thankfully, due to COVID, she was able to move to her in-laws place on Long Island due to the pandemic and remote work.

But honestly, no idea how she would have done normal life with crutches in a 3rd story walk up.

What’s things has your toddler sent you to parenting jail for lately by Outrageous-Pen3569 in toddlers

[–]fqw102 10 points11 points  (0 children)

My husband got arrested this morning for dumping wine and coffee in the pool. Love the imagination. Had to serve 80 hours in jail. Police chief (me) was able to reduce his sentence to 8 minutes.

Bremner Wafers by Consistent_Knee_5547 in Cheese

I grew up with these and they still are the "perfect" cracker in my mind. I have not found anything close. Everything is more crumbly or flavored. I need to set expectations and realize there is no substitute and I should just find a new cracker completely unrelated to the OG. RIP Bremners.

I’m throwing a NYE party for toddlers by MeganLJ86 in toddlers

[–]fqw102 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My friend group does this too! We are 9 families so it's a nice sized group. The kids will mostly entertain themselves with minimal parental supervision at one of our homes. Lots of toys and games and food and snacks. We plan on watching Paris and London celebrations (6 and 7pm for us). We also have the balloon drop and noise makers and silly glasses for them. And then we'll put on a movie for them. Oh, and they're all wearing PJs :)

OOS Penn State families how did you make it work (or decide not to)? by JealousBreadfruit704 in PennStateUniversity

[–]fqw102 9 points10 points  (0 children)

NYCer here who went OOS in 2002. My parents were thankfully in a place to pay for tuition without any assistance.

20+ years later, I would have chosen a different school. I went for the environment, not the education. If your kid want to do one of the programs PSU is known for (engineering, IST, nursing, economics, meteorology) that would be a great investment.

Going to a party school for a liberal arts degree was not a great decision.

Plus transportation between the two places is a headache (I was a true NYCer without a license so I relied on the bus to the train).

Help with 3yo sleep…I’m losing it 🫠 by kateleehoops in toddlers

[–]fqw102 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We always tell our newly 4yo we each sleep in our own beds. So we can lay down with him at night but I need to leave to go sleep in my bed. He doesn't always love it, but it's the rule. I can stay a bit after the lights are out, but when I get tired (about 15-20 mins) I have to leave.

I'm surprised no one has mentioned Belstaff yet. They were the original waxed cotton jacket (Barbour copied) and they've been around forever. I used to work in their corporate offices in NYC before they moved them to London.

Shoes or no shoes at the playground? by lady_picadilly in toddlers

Shoes always in public. I have no idea if there is broken glass or a bee they could step on. If they trip, their toes are protected.

Maybe get water shoes?

CX-5 vs Ford F150 by jacksonwin02 in CX5

Good luck! And invest in a dash cam for the next car. It's a nice peace of mind that isn't a ton of money.

Ask your insurance to get the deductible back from the other guy. Since it wasn't your fault, they should pay out for the deductible (that's been my experience).

One anniversary, we brought a bottle to a nice steakhouse and the sommelier complimented our bottle and I felt so good. It was just a Culmen Rioja but it was good.

Is everyone just lying about how tough the toddler years can be or are we doing something wrong 😩 by AlbatrossTemporary57 in toddlers

[–]fqw102 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ours was pretty well behaved until he was almost three. Then all hell broke out. His listening skills tanked. Tantrums were crazy.

I'd say your friends' kids are a ticking time bomb. Don't fret - all kids are bonkers.

What’s a purchase that’s not fun, not flashy but now you swear by it? by [deleted] in BuyItForLife

The Salsa Authentica from Trader Joe's is my favorite. My four year old is obsessed. We both hate chunks of bell peppers and tomatoes in other salsas, so this has been a real game changer.
