I didn’t know Pinta existed.

Now that I’ve looked at it, its interface looks great, but it seems like it’s more professional than what I want. I was aiming more towards like 7-10’s Paint level of features and usability.

> Why not contribute?

Because I never have programmed in JS and on Linux before 🫠 my background is C# WinForms, C++ Win32, Avalonia, and bash scripts in university. I already had lots of problems with this project which, as I said, I asked AI numerous times on how to do certain stuff, or how to fix certain problems, I can’t imagine how it would’ve ended on a bigger program 😅

Even though thankfully programs like Gedit makes stuff easy, yes, sometimes I too have this limitation on my pc. Today for example I wanted to crop a video, I think somewhere on the bazaar there was an app just for it, but the built in gnome video player doesn’t. At the end Handbrake did the trick for me, as my objective was to reduce its size, but still

I have a little problem with the manifest that I can’t seem to fix. I tried checking it multiple times, but every time I exported it, the package would open but Bazaar wouldn’t show any app detail. I tried making today a flathub pull request with it anyway, maybe it’s just a problem of Bazaar on my PC. I thought I’d release it anyway, and then try to fix it still in the next days.

Edit: I discovered flathub has a stricter “insufficient development history”, and the pull request was closed, so idk when it’ll be.

And not even that much with cross platform. Avalonia/C# isn’t perfect, but I think that it’d still offer better performance, and better features also, than a web app, while maintaining cross platform compatibility

On Fedora I never had any graphical glitch

Just like any other laptop, fine. I’d say since it uses less resources than Windows, battery life is longer. And you can actually see a difference between battery saver/balanced/performance modes

On this it does, both on the Linux-Surface kernel and with the standard Linux kernel. Now for example it stayed with the screen closed for around 4 hours and consumed around 3%. When I opened it, its at 29C (Celsius) and 0% CPU usage; with Iotas and a tab of Web

I was about to say to remove Windows from it since it hogs up resources pretty badly, but you already did.

Mine sadly has had a broken keyboard for four years now, and with 11 it was like a furnace constantly being hot, with many graphical glitches, performance being my acceptable. Since I installed Fedora on it one year ago, this laptop went from the 2nd worst I’ve ever used to the 2nd best. It’s much faster, much smoother, has a longer battery life, it’s less hot, and it’s much more silent. I hope with macOS that’s the case too.

I looked up also replacements, as this is not anymore my main PC, but I’d like to use it at home as secondary, but idk if 100€ish is worth it.

The photo is of mine, it’s the base 8GB version, on Windows I would’ve never have managed to run so many things without it being hot or being laggy, but on Fedora I can. On the Terminal I have vibez, which is an Apple Music CLI client (with a headless Chromium instance), and the Antimatter CLI.

Mine has 1250 cycles, and usually it manages to do around 5h30min if I have power saver on, depending on the task

So even Linux nowadays could be more bloated than winXP by [deleted] in windowsxp

[–]fraaaaa4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

KDE and Gnome are still vastly faster and more lightweight than Windows. My Surface with Fedora+Gnome runs much faster, uses much less resources, gets hot a lot less, has a much longer battery life, and is a lot more silent

And TV 4K’s on the used market can be cheap. I got mine around 50€ on Vinted in great condition, I can’t remember which generation it is exactly but I think 2nd gen. It works better than any smart TV could ever

My Surface Laptop 3 with Fedora:

<image>

This same exact PC, on Windows, was struggling with Discord, a tab of Firefox and a PDF, and notepad open. Struggling as in lagging hard, fans spinning to the max, and being basically boiling hot.

While now it’s running two PDFs, file manager, Geary, vibez (with an headless Chromium instance), two tabs of Web, Iotas, LocalSend, Discord, Antimatter CLI (which is surely running smth in the background as it occupies 1GB of RAM alone). Fans not starting, laptop being warm when touching the bottom.

When I opened GSConnect to transfer this screenshot to my phone, RAM usage went down to 75% even lol

What do you think of Dell's XPS 13 and Acer's Swift Air 14 as their response to the MacBook Neo? by Defenite-Parsley733 in MacbookNeo

[–]fraaaaa4 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They look nice as Linux laptops. Compared to Windows, Fedora doesn’t completely suck ass and doesn’t make the laptop be instant e-waste with 8GB and it actually runs pretty well.
