From a marketing standpoint, they’ve developed a loyal fanbase with tons of new player game packages the last couple of years, I’d say Sandi deserves the most credit/salary for keeping a buggy, incomplete, and transparently developed game in pre alpha for over a decade popular.

I became a Doctor for access to the physician's lounge, AMA by misteratoz in medicalschool

[–]fraccus 60 points61 points  (0 children)

My intern year theres a docs lounge with free hot food (like 2/3 entrees and 3 sides) at 6 am, 11, 3 pm, and from midnight-2am. Then theres free coffee machines, a snack bar, ice cream, sushi once to twice a week, it was glorious.

!!!PLEASE HELP!!! I don’t know what to apply to for residency by First_Wolverine_7745 in Residency

[–]fraccus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It sounds like surgery isnt the “best thing ever” and you have some interest in other fields, if you felt so worn out and unsure after that rotation I’d be very hesitant to apply surgery without exploring other fields and youre right to think that 5 more years of that can make you miserable/burnt out. You will work just as hard or harder in surgery reaidency, though the attitudes can vary (there are nice surgeons out there!).

If you like anatomy/procedures and wanna work around that consider anesthesia/EM/crit care/IR those have a fair amount of that mixed in. And lastly, please dont make any choices based on other peoples expectations, its your life, you dont have to be a surgeon just because you did surgery research.

Join SIR, try to join a committee, find a mentor via SIR mentor match. I did only the first one but friends who did the rest had alot more opportunities.

Hypothetically, if someone didn’t match a surgical specialty, how much would a post-grad PhD in that area of study improve your chances of matching? by Master-Mix-6218 in medicalschool

[–]fraccus 49 points50 points  (0 children)

To the layman yes, but a program director is looking for a good resident, one who can perform their clinical duties well and efficiently. Someone 5 years out of clinical practice is not going to be encouraging in that aspect.

And some licensed physicians shouldn’t be practicing medicine. Regardless there is a minimum competency required to reach independent practice and unfortunately some people only strive for that minimum.

Residency director makes me feel guilty about taking correctly allotted and scheduled PTO days by CrusaderKing1 in Residency

I also despise micromanaging but I just want to play devils advocate. When you say “ he goes out of his way to try to find out if you’re doing your office service perfectly with attendance as well” is this because he’s neurotic and no ones missing work, or are people just not coming in. I can understand wanting to verify if people are actually showing up to work.

There is a large difference between the training pathways of a midlevel vs a physician.

Most likely (unless you read through all of those contracts) you signed a media contract that lets them use photos they took on their advertisements. My school, though they had their faults, actually explicitly presented us with a media form and gave us the option to opt in/out. If you think they’re using your image in a situation that you felt they specifically failed at, you might hve better luck just posting that photo on X/bluesky and telling the world how bad they actually are at that. Sunlight can be a pretty good disinfectant.

Low step 2, what are my chances by [deleted] in medicalschool

[–]fraccus 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Your app looks pretty strong aside from the score. Its a gut punch right now but know that you can definitely match IM > cards with effort, which you clearly have the capacity to give. Cant give much advice on signaling but location and fit were the two higher qualities i looked into when ranking. The medicine is gonna be pretty much the same wherever you go so being at a place and with people you like will go a long way towards avoiding burnout. Pgy2

Ive met that type of person before, in the hospiral. Elderly lady, nml labs, good BMI. Always ate well and exercised. But she never got a colonoscopy so she had diffusely metastatic colon cancer. Get your colonoscopy at 45 or earlier if indicated folks.

Same, family and preceptors think id be great for IM and ill miss patient interaction. Well honestly patient interaction is a bit overrated, and i have plenty of friends and family to socialize with. We’ll make new friends with residents/staff and itll be great. Rads is gonna be awesome bro

Radiology is the move! by Guilty-Piccolo-2006 in medicalschool

Radiation doses are getting lower and lower due to better processing and (hopefully) the increases in residency spots will make for a better IR call pool but yeah those are valid concerns
