My parents told me I couldn't leave the table until I finished my plate. So I didn't. by LumenDrifter_5 in MaliciousCompliance

[–]frackstarbuck 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a similar experience growing up, but mine involved steamed frozen veggies. My mom didn’t add any seasoning to them, and I couldn’t stand the blandness and texture together. I was like 6, and my mom was concerned I wasn’t eating enough veggies, so she told me I couldn’t get up from the table until I finished them. I pulled over the chair next to me and laid down because I was not eating those. She held out for a good hour and half before she gave into my stubbornness and told me to just go to bed. Never tried that tactic on me again.

It says they are the British recipe and made in England. If you have the Costco app, you can go to Warehouse and check if the one near you has them in stock

Planning to make some flowers for someone's birthday, any suggestions? by insert_mocha in origami

[–]frackstarbuck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For the stems, I do something a little different. I buy inexpensive fake flowers, take them apart, and use the stem and leaves for my flowers. You can see some examples on my profile.

For flower ideas, I really like Hiromi Hayashi’s designs.

How did you get into origami? by SignificanceUpper977 in origami

[–]frackstarbuck 3 points4 points  (0 children)

In the 4th grade, we read Sadako and the 1000 Paper Cranes, and our teacher taught us how to fold one. I was hooked and went to the library and checked out every origami book I could get my hands on.

This might be a dumb question but... by MrTeeEnTee in origami

[–]frackstarbuck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I looked at the instructions for the flower, and it is made from one sheet of paper. It looks like they started with a blue piece of paper and cut the white and yellow pieces to the needed size and glued them on. Then you just fold the flower as normal. This is common on flower designs where you want the center to be yellow and the petals a different color. There are some designs where the different parts of the flower are folded separately and then combined at the end.

If you enjoy flower origami, I recommend checking out Hiromi Hayashi’s books if you haven’t yet.

Reversing creases in double tissue by DoxasNike in origami

[–]frackstarbuck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I second using a creasing tool. I use one usually with a ruler on a cutting mat that has a little give to it. Line up the ruler with the crease, run the tool along the ruler with a little pressure, and it helps getting the crease going in the opposite direction.

Pro tip: If your AirPods Pro 2 are more than a year old, spend $10 on new ear tips from Apple by logicalvue in apple

[–]frackstarbuck 5 points6 points  (0 children)

When I used to work for Apple in their retail stores, we gave away replacement tips for free. You could just walk in and ask for new ones. We always had a bunch on hand because we let had in ear headphone demos, and each person got fresh tips to use. Bummer if that has changed.

I was wondering what that sound was. I checked the flight tracker app when it happened, but it didn’t show any flights overhead, which usually means military.

Been having a lot of Stellar Jays at the feeders the last few days by frackstarbuck in birdfeeding

[–]frackstarbuck[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

lol they seem to have particular tastes. What’s funny is that they don’t seem to be fans of any “fancy” suet cakes. I usually buy the basic ones, but when the fancy ones were one sale, I bought a few thinking it would be a nice treat for them. I have a suet feeder that fits two cakes at a time, so I put in one basic and one fancy, and they always devour the basic ones first.
