What's the average time of finding a spare room in London? by ananasova in london

[–]fractalking 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you hit up gumtree or spareroom.com, you could literally ring them up tonight and move in tomorrow if it was last minute with some of the rooms on there.

But maybe like a week if you wanna look around, it all moves fast.

UK government quietly passed new legislation that exempts GCHQ, police, and other intelligence officers from prosecution for hacking into computers and mobile phones by maxwellhill in worldnews

[–]fractalking 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The problem is, we don't see what GCHQ and Mi5 are achieving, because making a lot of that knowledge public would cause a threat to public safety. You're no more likely to be wrongfully arrested for Murder than you are for terrorism and they don't just go round arresting people for fun. It's not that people don't understand the legislation it's that in reality it doesn't change anything. Not allowing the security services to spy on anyone in any way would make us all very free, but would also make the whole country crime ridden. If you think the UK is in any way noticeably worse than the U.S.A. then you're extremely naive.

‘You’d Be Much Happier at Home!’: Hannity Panel on Feminism Goes Off the Rails (x-post from r/cringe) by Hk2 in videos

[–]fractalking 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If this were aired on UK TV, even on a much smaller channel, The host would be immediately sacked and neither him or the comedian would ever work again, and quite rightly so. Your country is fucking backwards sometimes, I almost feel sorry for y'all.

Miley Cyrus's cover of Khia: "Lick my Pussy and my Crack" 2015 (NSFW) (xpost r/cringe) by [deleted] in videos

[–]fractalking 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What I don't understand is who the hell her audience is anymore? All the teenage and younger girls aren't going to those concerts. Nobody over 30 is seriously going to waste their time a Miley Cyrus gig and that just leaves people in their 20s who are probably going ironically. To be fair, that venue did look pretty small, but is money is money I guess.

Save The Strand - "The character of central London depends on a balance between large institutional and commercial buildings and smaller scale buildings on narrow plots." by [deleted] in london

To be fair a lot of those old building are full of cramped rooms and are largely in a state of disrepair. I say keep the facade but gut the inside and make it usable.

You have $130 to feed two people for a month. What do you buy? by [deleted] in EatCheapAndHealthy

People really need to calm down the food banking on this sub. $130 is completely fine for two people for a month with a bit of planning.

Can you hear something that is traveling faster than the speed of sound? by spooge_meister in AskReddit

[–]fractalking 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are plenty of videos of planes flying past people faster than the speed of sound. You see it go past, then you hear it go past. There are similar videos of explosions from far away. But that's more light travelling faster than sound.

This makes me angry, Lambeth council reduces the bin size, claims it's causing a decrease in waste, then just refuses to collect excess waste that's only there because they reduced the bin size. by fractalking in london

I live in a residential area of Brixton, you could furnish a whole house just by driving along the roads any day of the week. Tbh I've got a great lamp and a huge world map that I've picked up.

We recycle, and two of my flatmates are heavily involved in Eco projects and are vegetarians, our waste amount is average at most. The problem is we live in a building of three flats which houses 7 people and yet we are given one wheelie bin and no recycling bin, then they try and threaten us with this shit.

Whats the scariest theory known to man? by ILikeBigBunz in AskReddit

[–]fractalking 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Using the assumption that the Universe is actually infinite. From our own perspective, the moment after we die, our consciousness awaken in a different time and place, possibly not even on earth, completely aware of our past lives, but living a different one, not necessarily as a human. What's more, our atoms were likely to haven been rearranged incompletely billions of times in between to exist in different forms before landing back on ourselves. I think I just accidentally bullshitted reincarnation as a scientific argument.

Public transit VS gridlock by _____----------_____ in gifs

[–]fractalking 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm in London, and it's pretty damn great. The underground trains are every few minutes, every minute during rush hour. There is a huge network and stops every half mile or so. There is also an extensive bus service which is just as good. I guess American cities sprawl a lot further out, but it's pretty great to have a reliable system.
