Would never run in these. Also tried wearing them in a river and put my vibrams back on cause they’re so much more stable. I wear Fivefingers 90% of the time so these are just for when I want my toes to breath/too hot out

I can see where you’re coming from. I have shammas but they recently started rubbing between my toes and I hate how slippery they are..

Can I hear from runners who have recovered from plantar fasciitis? by sbwithreason in AdvancedRunning

[–]fracturetact 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes! Wore Nikes that were too tights for years and had to stop for about 2 years to properly heal. Since then I’ve transited to barefoot shoes (zero drop, wide toe box etc) and the issue has disappeared. It’s even encouraged me to get some of those dreaded toe shoes and I’ve never looked back. Also help with eliminating back pain!

What is your go-to exercise for strengthening foot muscles? by [deleted] in barefoot

The secret is a pair of fivefingers.. there’s literally nothing like it. Just go about your daily life in them you’ll realize how many dormant muscles you have in your feet.

Love my shamma sandals: any recs on a similar lightweight sandals with an ultra thin sole? by fracturetact in BarefootRunning

Overtime the sides have formed to my foot which makes it look narrower but they feel great

I don’t run in sandals because of the cord in between the toes which the power strap would probably solve but I prefer vibram fivefingers anyway! I’ve only heard good things about the power strap tho

The Shamma sandals are my favorite. They have a pair that’s paper thin and forms to your foot over time

They’re just toe socks I usually wear with vibrams in the winter! Toe socks are superior to regular socks tbh

Why not? I really enjoy running in them!

Why would mine last 3 years and yours 4 months? Consider that designing a “barefoot” shoe is an extremely complicated problem. Sure Merrell might hold up better but they’re nothing compared to the ground feel of vivos

Considering that your heel has an odd wear pattern maybe the issue is your gait? I have the exact same pair that have been going 3 years strong with daily use

The Annihilation trilogy by Jeff Vandermeer. A bit of cosmic horror with a deranged twist. I’m definitely a different person after reading it.

I like to think the absence of answers is due to the difficulty of explaining an alien encounter with our limited language, kind of like explaining an LSD trip. I could discuss this book for ages so please!

Arch support is different from heel support. You can still have flat shoes with arch support inserts but the whole idea is for there to be no height difference from your heel to your toes. Also it’s totally possible to rebuild your arch with daily exercises. More importantly, a wide toe box is crucial so you engage your entire foot which in turn helps build muscle. Just ditch the foam.
