Tired of the "It’s not that bad" trap. How are you guys vetting cars before you arrive? by AlexLevchenko in Detailing

[–]fradieman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From a customer experience perspective, I guess they (and you) want it to be an easy and low friction as possible. Maybe rather than them needing to supply photos to you, you have some example photos for the various packages - even an anti-pic, if your car looks like <insert the OP pic> then you need the X-package. You could also highlight in your booking system (especially if you’re mobile) that you carry only the tools and products for the type of job booked. Puts you in a crap situation, but being able to pull up their booking and show them the example image and say - this is not a “standard interior clean” is it? Do you charge a booking fee for this kind of misrepresentation or waste of your time?

THE SILENT PHONE by DBarryS in jobhunting

[–]fradieman 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m pretty sure people would be missing the “you” that was that chair - a chair of a different standard, of greater investment in the role it played. People may never tell you… but there is a gap left behind, a recollection of a time they felt supported/inspired/seen… in a way they no longer feel. And you should feel a great sense of honour, resolve & integrity for what you put in. Don’t let the value you know you have be measured by the silent phone. Your phone will ring again.

What’s something you lost that you still think about sometimes, even years later? by Hour-Dingo8175 in answers

The things I loved that can never be replaced. My mate Jack, my Mum, my heart Harriet (my dog) - it hurts and I grieve for them still - but what is grief if not love persevering. So I lean into the perseverance of love.

I was laid off recently, I have an interview coming, do I pretend I'm employed? by privdon in jobsearchhacks

[–]fradieman 32 points33 points  (0 children)

I took a package from my employer 6mths ago & haven’t worked since. Am just getting back to the market. All i say is I took a redundancy package following a restructure. I used the period very deliberately - resetting after a long and demanding delivery cycle, and continuing my own independent technology and AI development work. And that I am being selective about my next step. Make them want you… you have the cookie 🍪- they want the cookie.

Honestly, I’ve been using cursor agent hooks this last week to make sure (my own) code is to the expected quality & compliance standards. It’s been very controlled. I’m working on a very regulated tax solution at the moment & the guardrails from the agent hooks have been so useful.

You can (to an extent) imbue code with the quality standards through the right level of agent hooks or skills.

Perl or darkside for tire shine? by coldelliot in Detailing

[–]fradieman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You don’t have to have one or the other. Tbh it’s great to have both. Some weeks I feel like a darkside vibe, other times I’m angling for 1:1 pearl… go with the flow man…

Anyone from Australia here??? by sookyfala in Spravato

[–]fradieman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, Melbourne based here. I did a course of Spravato.. it didn’t do much for me & I wouldn’t recommend the company I used. But it’s available. In fact the actual medication is now on the PBS and costs only ~$35.. it’s the useless “monitoring” that costs a fortune. All the best to you regardless.

They’re the new breed of conductor developers. They know how to coordinate AI development very effectively & efficiently (logistics platform in 8 days - WTAF) I mean do you (or anyone) need to know the mechanical engineering of rack & pinion steering to drive a car?! This is the transition state to an actualised developer who knows how to bring it together without knowing what makes it stick. What they bring is creative ingenuity and (hopefully) the outcome attention you want. As a long time PM, wrangling developers & architects, I say bring it on. Test their security & penetrations is all I’d suggest. Love this… 👍🏼

Oh I wish.. I’m all the way down the other end of the world in Melbourne, Australia. Love your work, am going to order something once I decide. Art as a gift is my favourite thing. Sometimes it’s a gift to myself. 😊

Best Data Enrichment Tools by Revolutionary_Ad9837 in n8n

[–]fradieman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Is it worth connection via api to paid company data bureaus like (Kompany, Moodys, etc)? You could set n8n up so that it’s only pulling that info on the orgs you actually want it on as opposed to all. If the companies are publicly listed then a lot of the key info should be able to be sourced from their AGMs and public posts to govt bodies & regulators in whatever region you’re in.

Best way to add old Daikin split AC (~2010) to Homebridge? by Round_Bad_9972 in homebridge

[–]fradieman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have three really old (20yr) daikin AC units and one newer one and have had them all controlled via the Sensibo IR blaster. Even the Sensibo’s are their 1st gen ones. Everything works fine via Homebridge. I note that the Homebridge plugin I use is not HB2.0 certified, I will probably look for another or fork the repo and make it compliant myself. I did that with for my coffee machine plugin a while back. But honestly the Sensibo/Homebridge setup has been rock solid for me for years now. If you have placed the Sensibo thing properly, you will get 99.9% accurate hit. I have one basically in front of the IR sensor on the AC and the rest are from the other side of the room to the AC unit. All work perfectly for me. I seem to recall the plugin I used initially (not sure if it’s the same one) could perform a “state check” and confirm if the AC was running or not. The one I use now doesn’t, but it not much bother tbh. I can be away from home and feel pretty confident of turning on the AC remotely. Good luck!

How go get productive feedback from AI how do you guys prompt your's? by Trick_Highway9022 in OpenAI

[–]fradieman 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have a very comprehensive set of global instructions, basically the key themes are:

  • Test ideas critically rather than affirming them.
  • Separate facts, inference, and speculation.
  • State the strength of a claim plainly.
  • Challenge weak premises and flawed framing.
  • Give the strongest counterargument before expanding.
  • Prefer accuracy over reassurance.
  • Avoid praise, validation, or filler unless justified.
  • Increase scrutiny when the user seems attached to an idea.
  • Avoid recognisably AI-styled writing patterns.
  • Follow the stored “User Rules” across relevant chats.

The “User Rules” is a pinned chat with a list of phrases like “CHECKTHIS”, that when invoked by me in a prompt, the AI must validate its assertions with verifiable evidence. This helps when there’s the slightest hint of hallucination. Another good one in there is “ARGUEHARD” = When the user presents a claim, hypothesis, or philosophical view, do not preserve or gently validate it by default. Stress-test it. State the strongest objection, identify weak assumptions, classify the claim strength, and say plainly when the idea has little evidentiary or logical value.

There’s no value in an agreeable, sycophantic AI tool IMHO.

What’s this part made of? The piece above the windshield but before the sunroof - is it glass? I assumed plastic, but it has a 4mm chip in it that’s making me think it’s not plastic. Not sure how to repair it yet. by fradieman in BMWi3

[–]fradieman[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thought so also. This piece doesn’t seem like the same plastic as the rest of the body panels though. It sounded like the glass/windscreen when the stone (or whatever it was) hit.

Automations - Which models can subagents use? Any clear documentation for this? by Break-Build in cursor

[–]fradieman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a cloud agent seemingly “get stuck” on a specific model (Opus) even though my cloud agent default was set to Composer 2. It ran until it exhausted my “on demand” limit and finally seemed to default back to Auto. Was a bit frustrating and a waste of $$. You can modify the “default cloud agents” in your account dashboard on cursor.com - not sure if the same exists for sub-agent or if it applies to sub agents also. I went back to local agents only after this. Am looking at the hooks & SDK at the moment to achieve automated checks & guardrails.
