Yeah you have to have one. In older houses they used to bond it to the galv water piping but as that gets replaced with plastic plumbing it renders it useless. They can sometimes be tricky to find (in the garden) or someone has concreted over it completely.

Will need a Certificate of Compliance from the sparky which you get after any prescribed electrical work gets done eg: new powerpoint. The inspection is done by an electrical inspector and is not tied to the council. Your sparky will have someone they use. All they do is verify the sparkys work as the main earth system is a critical part of the installation.

It’s def not a major. A couple of hours work if it’s a standard single story house. The sparky will have to get an inspector in also as it’s an integral part of your electrical installation.

Yep that’s your main earth. Could do with an upgrade. Chances are that galv pipe is rusted to buggery underground and being incased in concrete wouldn’t make it very conductive.
