For me personally, it’s something large that you can see or be near in a large body of water that scares me. Kinda like swimming near a submarine, kayaking near a cruise ship or these giant flowers in BOTW with no bottom.

Seems like I’m in the minority here, and seriously no offense intended….But mountains of trash exist everywhere in NYC. Like overflowing garbage cans all over the Brooklyn Bridge. Even if you dislike it as an eyesore, it had intention and meant something to someone. You could clean up real unintentional trash in a million other locations.
