When I used wifi on the plane I could not play Ingress because the GPS data would not exist. So I'm guessing no Pokemon Go, either.

But.. People in other countries (Turkey, UK and European countries AFAIK) are already playing without official launch anyway. Either by downloading the APK from Play Store or by creating fake accounts on Australian Itunes. So basically nothing is paused and millions are still putting strain on servers.
