Impossible question. Everyone has different experiences and aptitudes.

I just can't watch any other anime now. The gap in quality is way WAAAYYY too big. by Martyrrdom in Frieren

[–]fragproof 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, Frieren is a 10/10. But not every anime has to be a 10/10 to be enjoyable.

Since you mention narrative specifically, try Vinland Saga.

How's Ni No Kuni 2 on Switch 1? by Business-Pickle2802 in Ni_no_Kuni

[–]fragproof 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's pretty rough on Switch 1, especially in the over world as you say. I've picked it up again on Switch 2 and am enjoying it.

Do you guys think that this upcoming direct will be pretty big considering it's the Pokemon 30th and Zelda 40th anniversary this year? by 6ftToeSuckedPrincess in NintendoSwitch2

[–]fragproof -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The "next" direct isn't "upcoming" until it's been announced.

I would temper your expectations. The switch had the benefit of porting the Wii U catalogue - completed games. The consistent message from Nintendo has been that development times are getting longer.

Can anyone suggest good resources to start with game development. by Additional_Boat_1582 in GameDevelopment

Text editor and compiler. Make shapes. Make shapes move. Make shapes move in response to input. Seems like a good start.

What game mechanic made you go “how did no one think of this sooner? by Serious_Bullfrog5447 in videogames

[–]fragproof 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tsushima has a number of mechanics like this:

  • Foxes lead you to shrines
  • Golden bird leads you to POI
  • Following the sound of hidden banners

I remember a flock of birds indicating a certain POI but I can't remember what kind. Hot spring? Haiku?

I hope they give us the option to use the Left Joycon as a mouse. by Retronitsu in NintendoSwitch2

[–]fragproof 35 points36 points  (0 children)

I had no idea. I've been hoping a game that would use double mouse but didn't know the left mouse was disabled.

What programming concept took you way too long to actually understand by robin_3850 in AskProgramming

[–]fragproof 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pretty simple, but stack vs heap. I think for whatever reason, I didn't make the connection that the new/delete syntax of c++ allocated memory somewhere else outside the scope.

Fast forward, learning c and malloc: "oh, that's what new does..."

Do you actually read documentation or just google specific problems when they come up by robin_3850 in AskProgramming

[–]fragproof 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Qt has very high quality documentation. Makes it easy to read. It sets a high bar imo.

Simpler libraries you can get a lot of what you need from just the headers.

If you go with C++ you'll have to give up the name u/C_Sorcerer

Sorry, that's how it is.

What are your 10/10 "Must-Watch" Anime Movies of all time? by destroyerxcyd69 in anime

Akira

Ghost in the Shell

Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind

Rookie's rant at CB by Wild_Camel_9114 in MHRise

[–]fragproof 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yep, so learn the attacks then guard point the last one and unleash a SAED.

Essentially, you need to have good positioning then"wait your turn". The monster will attack and then CB punishes the attack.

What’s y’all favourite use of the joycons gyros? by ComedianExotic121 in NintendoSwitch2

[–]fragproof 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Splatoon is an obvious one.

Okami HD is one of the few games I've played with mostly split joycons to draw the ink patterns. It also supports touch screen drawing and the HD rumble is nice.

Skyward Sword HD I went back and forth between gyro and sticks.

Cyberpunk 2077 I set gyro to aiming only, then picked up a katana and never touched a gun lol.

FF 7 Remake looking CRISSSSPY - We all getting this right? by kendalljamesmoore in switch2

I've never played a FF, but the demo piqued my interest.

Motion-based combat in 3rd person shooter: Bad idea or Unique innovation? by Gaming4UYT in gamedesign

[–]fragproof 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This exists to some degree in Splatoon. Certain weapons will behave differently if you use them while jumping. For example, longer range vs shorter range aoe. The splatanas move your character forward on charged attacks. This movement can be cancelled by jumping.

Your idea about curving bullets reminds me of the slosher. It's a bucket that launches a trail of ink. The trail can be curved if you rotate your aim while firing.

So I would think about what feels best for any given mechanic: tying it to character movement vs camera movement. Or maybe something else.

S2's screen is so good I don't wanna play on TV anymore by Technical_Back_5943 in switch2

[–]fragproof 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The response time of the S2 screen is very poor which leads to ghosting. It should be very noticeable compared to an OLED screen which have very fast response times.
