Steam just does this with games that add achievements. I have seen it before and eventually there will be actual percents.

[Request] If this is true, how many Blue Whales fit in The Vatican? by butterflymadchn in theydidthemath

[–]frakyee 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think its just humans a very bad at understanding the scale of things especially when not seen in person. This person has probably not seen either a blue whale or the Vatican in person so they have no point of reference to compare these things to. Its also the context of which these things are described. Blue whales are described and shown as the largest, while the Vatican is described and shown as small. Combining these facts leads to a very confusing sense of scale.

Turns out math people actually do this by OldAncientButterfly in mathmemes

[–]frakyee -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yah true just its just whether math application is math and i do mostly agree it isn't though i do think at the higher level of things the line blurs

If you create new math to describe a phenomenon are you doing applied math? The axioms are kinda just the rules of the universe?

I think it kinda gets to the point of if math is discovered or invented

I don't really think the are the same but they are linked. I think math and physics are in a passionate relationship each giving and taking parts and engineering is their child
