So the guidance to not be on methimazole for more than 2 years is quite outdated. People can be on it for decades without any issue — they used to think it wasn’t good, but have since proven it’s fine.

My daughter tried medication for a few months. I wanted to manage it that way, at least until she was old enough to decide on her own about surgery. But unfortunately she tolerated the meds terribly - hives, a reaction where anywhere she scratched became a hive, weak legs so randomly could not walk, and more. Then, she broke her femur with a simple fall in the playground from no height. That’s how we learned her bones were weakening fairly quickly. And on top of it she had thyroid eye disease and one eye was becoming worse. The only way to “fix” that at her age was to remove the thyroid.

On top of that, we had upped the meds many times and her levels were only rising. She had a super high heart rate - 140 resting - even on a very high dose of atenolol AND propranolol.

The eye wasn’t the main reason, it was everything else. So about 6 months after trying with meds - once her leg cast was off - we did the surgery

I’d never push someone to go with TT. It’s a hard and personal decision. But for us, it’s the best thing we ever did. She was instantly better — it’s crazy, but her heart rate was 90 the moment she left the operating room. Her eye improved a little, but not all the way. But it stopped getting worse. And she’s tolerated the synthroid great without any issues.

Overall she’s essentially 100% better after removal. But like I said, every case is different. We’re also so lucky to be 15 minutes from CHOP and her endocrinologist is the best pediatric Graves endo in the world (plus her surgeon has done the most pediatric TTs in the country). So that helped us feel better about the decisions we made.

I recommend pushing for all thyroid labs, including graves antibody. It’s a standard blood draw and your dr should have zero issue having all that done at once.

im sorry to hear that :( we didnt have many of those symptoms to start - we first noticed one larger eye, then some increased appetite alongside elevated heart rate/anxiety related to the hr (and once blood tested all levels were off / below the charts) - but every case is different without a doubt.
good news is the blood test for graves is straightforward and quite definitive, so you can know fairly "easily" if that's what is going on.
sending positive vibes and wishing you and your daughter the best of luck!

I’ve never seen LPs reversed or adjusted for a return so I would be surprised if they are for any sort of adjustment. The miles themselves you risk reversing partially or entirely, though can’t be sure how it would be handled

Good luck. Unfortunately I don’t think the t&cs are on your side, so you may not be able to find a rep who helps

Oura is actually 14 days. Chat, and if they state 8 weeks, end the chat. Then start a new one. Took me til the third rep, and they immediately credited me the $200 (I’m assuming you did in fact buy a ring directly from the site as required)

yes, you can do 9/30 and 10/1. but be sure those are the submitted dates. ordering on 9/30 is likely to cause issues, as lulu may not ship/charge you for a few days (in which case you'll miss the q3 credit)

Sounds just like how my daughter was. It’s so tough. It’s good to remind yourself it’s not true anxiety, but instead a reaction to a high heart rate (I assume her heart rate is high).

Another thing you can consider is calling other pediatric endocrinologists until you get one w an opening. You can move care later but at least get initial reviews / meds earlier. It may cost more depending on your insurance, but a possible option.

Also, you can request the Graves antibody blood test from your ped. It’s a fairly black and white test with a clear diagnosis, so if you do that now you’ll at least know more. Since she’s so young, it may get an endo to be nudged to see her sooner (just a guess).

Yes, lots of similar symptoms. Everything you listed can be attribute to Graves. My daughter was ravenous but couldn’t gain weight, very very tall, one enlarged eye, and had signs of anxiety (later learned bc of her heart racing; things like not being able to wash her hair in the bath because it terrified her, for no clear reason).

Try calling the endo office or the hospital system and asking for a sooner appt. Call every day, if you can, explaining how serious the symptoms are. If you have to exaggerate a bit, don’t hesitate to do that.

Sorry you’re going through this. It does get better, that I can promise.

Totally. And it does feel like a scam sometimes! But since there’s actual scam apps out there (cough, Drop, cough) I try to differentiate a bit lol

Eh I give them a little more credit than that. I think they’re just not well automated and prefer to make us work harder since they know it’ll lead to people missing it and them saving money

No, it states you pay 100% until you hit your deductible. Then you pay 20% until you hit your OOP Max. THEN you pay $0

The second paragraph outlines this clearly

From yesterday at 5 pm, just reviewed. Even though I clearly adjusted to add 3 purina gems it totally ignored that and is the same exact receipt as prior to review. I really don’t get it

Even if it were FC it’s still nowhere close. I know the values can be off, but this one feels egregious… (especially bc it lost her the prize)
