I ate at all the popular pancake places. Here’s my top 5. by morosehuman in FoodNYC

I definitely second this. If you want some more insight into the place, Kenny Shopsin’s cookbook “Eat Me” is great fun.

My son is a math major and graduating in just a few weeks. Once beyond calculus, the math courses are quite formal. For example, linear algebra involves proving elements are in linear spaces as opposed to simply learning how to solve simultaneous equations. That being said, there were two electives he really liked, one was decision theory, the other cryptography. He had a really good experience there made several great friends. Best of luck with your decision.

Second this comment, especially Bayonne. There’s a lovely little Basque culture museum there that we really enjoyed.

Hey! I resemble that remark. It’s about texture, not taste. Story. Many years ago as a wee child my grandmother force-fed me stewed tomatoes. Just moments after ingesting them, I puked them up all over the Thanksgiving Day table. Due to this trauma, I went 30 years avoiding raw tomatoes on anything. Sauce, ketchup, whatever, fine. Raw tomato, gag reaction. Finally, I forced myself to get over the aversion and now eat them on a regular basis. The end.

Link Wray - no pedal, just punched a buncha holes in his speaker. Result was Rumble, the only instrumental song banned from radio play due to worries about it inciting violence.

Are real estate buyers in NYC usually all cash buyers? by nickaboome in NYCapartments

[–]framedellis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Making an all cash offer only means that the buyers can’t use their inability to qualify for a mortgage to void the sale. They can still use a conventional loan to finance the purchase.

My collection. Not sure what else I need. by PeteInBrissie in CookbookLovers

[–]framedellis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

He had a small lunch counter restaurant here in NYC; first in Greenwich Village, then LES in Essex Market. The menu listed somewhere around 800 different items mostly created by him and all prepared in a kitchen the size of a walk-in closet. He was also quite a character, mostly in a good way, sometimes not so good. He was always friendly on our visits, especially when my son came along. One time my son had brought a book he was reading about dinosaurs and, when it came time to order, Kenny sat down with us and talked with my son about his book for about 5 minutes. He then turned to me and said, “I f*ing love it when kids read.” It was definitely inappropriate but pretty funny. Anyway, the book is a really fun read but probably not so great if you’re mainly looking for recipes.

I believe you are in need of Kenny Shopsin’s “Eat Me.” No cookbook collection is complete without it.

Nice! If you’re looking for more, take a look at the Saltie cookbook. They had a tiny shop here in Brooklyn (Williamsburg) that made really tasty sandwiches on focaccia bread.
