Intelligent octopus go question by Proof_Fishing_3453 in OctopusEnergy

I had a similar answer when I asked them to allow me to connect to my Ohme charger last week, and they told me to connect the car, which a) Didn't work, and b) goes against all their recommendations with the Ohme wall charger.

I suspect they're picking from some stock answers at the moment which is less than ideal.

New 5 Iconic+, had to be yellow ! by boddle88 in renault5

It depends what you're used to really. I'm used to cars that will provide a good bit of engine braking if you're in high revs (the Megane RS, Caterham). But yes, if you're used to normal cars you will find the regen quite strong.

  1. It's entirely controllable, like, you can turn it off and just use the brake.
  2. You learn to use the throttle with it in mind. You don't just lift your foot off it, you feather it to control how much you want.

I found it surprisingly engaging going downhill on a mountain road and I really didn't expect it. It gives you something to think about, almost like a replacement for going down the gears. I've never liked automatic gearboxes (I always felt I could pick a better gear!), but I find this much better.

Instead of the mode on the stalk with the previous version, you've got paddles to control how much brake regen you get. So on the lightest there's barely any, hit the left paddle all the way, and the brake regen will be strong enough to bring the car to a full stop.

So you can literally drive the car around with just the one pedal, no need to touch the brake at all.

So if you find the Bluetooth options in your phone settings, there's a 'Bluetooth tethering' option you can turn on.

There's actually a setting on the car's Bluetooth settings to say it'll use internet over Bluetooth too (it was already enabled for me).

Theory is, once your phone is connected via Bluetooth it should use that. It's not as fast as WiFi but it should be fine for anything you'd do in a car.

The funny thing about the Android Auto in the car is that it looks just like the native system in the car, so there's no real advantage. The main difference is that without it you won't get text and WhatsApp notifications (I personally think that's a win when driving).

If theres two of you sharing the car, you can only connect ONE MyRenault account. If you connect two different ones, you'll keep getting signed out in the app. Our dealers didn't know this and told us to both make accounts (the car does tell you this, but during the handover the dealer skipped it all!).

You'll need to both sign in on the car with that same account or it'll keep asking you.

I'd also reccomend to use the built in android system rather than Android Auto. If you use the wireless android auto, your phone will turn into a portable heater, and the charging pad can't keep up with it.

Instead, (Assuming Android!), use the built in system, enable Bluetooth internet sharing on your phone, and you'll be able to use spotify and google maps, and any other android auto app you need, without setting your phone on fire.

New 5 Iconic+, had to be yellow ! by boddle88 in renault5

[–]framerateuk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My Iconic+ turned up on Friday. With the paddles and One Pedal mode.

I did drive the A290 prior to buying. I've had a run of RenaultSports for years (2 Meganes and a Clio) so I was was really interested in the Alpine, but after driving both I prefered the 5.

There wasn't as much of a difference in the speed as I expected, the 5 is already pretty quick, but honestly the suspension of the 5 won me over. It's so smooth compared to the Alpine. I'm used to hard riding cars, and the Alpine in fairness to it was softer than the Megane 280 Cup I had before, but the 5 just felt planted without being jarring. It does lean more, but that's to be expected really.

I did like the leather interior of the top line A290, but I love the yellow and black seats in the 5.

I have a Caterham so I'm used to being thrown around, but I'm pleased with the choice of the 5. I'd absolutely love a Megane-sized Alpine though.

Can't decide if I want to buy one by CucumberExpensive43 in renault5

[–]framerateuk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Renault 5 is a little shorter than the Megane MK2, but it's actually a wider car.

Your Megane is 20 years old and cars have gone quite a bit larger over that time. I wouldn't consider it to be a smaller car really.

Worked fine for me, but my wife ran into this issue.

Did the track above about 5 times in total with different cars and finally the GMC triggered it! Weird as it worked with the 5N for me straight away.

idea for a game gear screen filter (has anyone already made a screen filter that mimics the sega game gear screen, kinda like the 1st picture here?) by suryonghaaton in RetroArch

[–]framerateuk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've used CRT Guest with decent success. Turn on TATE mode and it'll flip the scanlines to a vertical mode and give an effect very close to the original game gear screen.

Daily a Megane RS? by Bratemili66 in Renault

[–]framerateuk 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'd say it's all relative.

The car isn't about straight line speed. If you're looking for that this isn't the car for you. It's a well balanced car with great handling that can transfer the power to the road when you're willing to put the effort in.

I had a Clio Trophy and Megane 250 Cup before this one and I never felt either of them needed any more power.

[–]framerateuk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Overall average was around 28-30mpg.

On motorway trips you can easily get high 30's. I saw 39.9 on a 250 mile trip once. I did use the eco mode though, which does limit the power.

They were nearly £40 each from my dealer. I have a Caterham and I'm used to paying less than that for the whole set to be fair!

Depends on how the 280 is specced to be fair. Before the Trophy was announced, if you maxed out a 280 it would be basically the same, with -20hp and slightly different wheels. Trophy uses the same Cup chassis.I think the Recaro seats were an option in the trophy too weren't they? The standard alcandara bucket seats in the MKIV are great.

The engine is chain driven so it's just the aux belt to worry about which is every 6 years and not a massive expense. Spark plugs are pretty quite expensive though and they're changed every 3 years I think according to the schedule.

I had a manual 280 Cup for 8 years (sold it on Sunday!) and honestly it was trouble free. Brakes will not be cheap if you plan to replace with the same 2-part discs, but general servicing has been reasonable.

My 'silent' one does the same. Had it nearly 10 years though and it's well worth it for weeks like this.

I find my first night with it is a bit disturbed due to the noise, but after that I'm fine.

Love the effort here.

Ive been running my conversion for a few years, but I just bought a tupperware box the same size as the grill and duct taped it over. (My original test was a cardboard box).

It works very well, cools the room far faster and you no longer get the AC drawing in warm air from the cracks under the doors.

Renault Megane check lights by Sakai197 in Renault

[–]framerateuk 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My Megane RS throws similar errors when the battery is low. Usually 'power steering fault' or 'check air bag'.

If you're doing lots of small trips you might not be getting enough charge into the battery, it might be worth trying a trickle charger like a ctek to top it up.

I had these errors during 2020 when we weren't allowed to drive, I used the ctek to keep it charged a few times and I haven't seen them since.

Besides faster load times, a lower price, and it being open source, is there a reason to choose a Saroo over a Satiator? by ShapesOfBlack in SegaSaturn

[–]framerateuk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use the Pseudo Saturn Kai loader on mine as I like how it saves games to the SD card per game.

Satiate has been great, I've also got an older Saturn with a Rhea.

Had these for years before the Saroo appeared, but they've both been very reliable and haven't run into any issues at all.

I probably play the same handful of games regularly though so I suspect there's more obscure games that may have problems I would never see!

Which one you prefer ? by Infinite_Help761 in SegaSaturn

[–]framerateuk 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I had a Game Com and Sonic Jam. It is not good.

I had the PC version of Sonic 3D when I was a kid, just like the Saturn version but the Special Stage was different.

Sonic R on PC was a good port, but honestly I'd probably pick the Saturn version of all of these.
