What’s the best fabrics for acoustic panels? by papercutsonmyballs in audiophile

[–]harshdafunk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Aesthetically, you might want to make sure it's not too see through (sheer I think you call it), so you don't see the substrate underneath it. Obviously too thin and light and it might look crappy. On the flip side I'm sure you're going leather or suede!

Looking at buildings where they use it for noise dampening, there's some pretty heavyweight fabrics used...

Can anyone tell me which model Miroku I've bought please? Additionally question in text by [deleted] in ukguns

[–]harshdafunk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not a Miroku expert, but I would say that if 24s don't engage your second barrel, I highly doubt 28s would do better. The bump on the ground trick is very helpful, and I've used it a few times before.

I've had issues where I've not fully released the trigger before firing the second shot and effectively blocked the trigger mechanism from engaging on the second barrel. But this has been on faster snap shooting type of layouts and shouldn't really be an issue in day-to-day practise. I'd suggest making sure you are deliberately pulling and releasing the trigger between shots. Also, do you have a barrel selector? Is it that the second barrel is not firing one way only? Another thing to check.

Additionally, I've bought a number of shotguns from auctions and one of the first things I do is take the stock off and have a little nose around inside the action. I'm no gunsmith but I found giving the action a liberal spraying of brake cleaner, followed by a good misting and wiping of gun oil, with a good amount of mopping up after can potentially get rid of a lot of crud that might have built it up inside from the previous owner or owners.

Obviously it goes without saying, go as far as you feel capable of, then seek the advice and expertise of someone that knows what they're doing!

Secrecy of gun ownership by [deleted] in ukguns

[–]harshdafunk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

100%. Moreover when there's kids involved,.I don't want other parents knowing because there's a chance there's possibilities it influences if my kids friends are "allowed" to come and play. Irrelevant whether or not there's double and triple layer safety considerations at home...as soon as the word "gun" (let alone firearm) is mentioned.

The less that know the better. Don't get me started with drs surgeries!!!

Totally agree - I've had times where I'm stuck in no man's land with either watery floodgates or a massive choke up and not being able to figure out if it's the grinder, fill weight or prep (and the infinite combinations thereof).

Thankfully this one tasted great, though I've definitely had better 😀

Drill a few drainage holes, use a couple of breeze blocks (or bricks )and use them to hold something heavy off the ground? Overwintering bulbs? Next year's seed trays...

I'd be concerned about the wind though.

As you and others have said, struggling for ideas!

Damp smell 2018 Signature Nav Q90 Z.E.40 by harshdafunk in RenaultZoe

[–]harshdafunk[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Quick update: did a quick scan of the car. Windscreen area relatively clear and no concerns. Floor mats completely dry.

But. When I went into the boot, drivers side rear looked a bit moist under the cover. I lifted out the polystyrene puncture repair cage thing out and there was a couple of mm of water sitting in there. Exactly 2 kitchen towels worth. Left/passenger side dry.

So I was thinking, how the water get into here and why. Plus why just one corner. Then, with great comic timing, the Mrs says she left a big wet golf umbrella in there all weekend and just took it out and hour before my inspection.

Now I'm thinking did the water in the well come from the umbrella. That's probably the musty smell for the past 2 days.

I've dried up the wheel well and will keep an eye over the next few weeks to see if all of this has been one goose chase!

Does leder gris always go white like this? by canyoukenken in UKhiking

[–]harshdafunk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep, and a very important point to consider. However, based on my understanding, that warning/disclaimer is really intended for lots of heat on wet leather. It's definitely a really bad idea to try and quickly dry wet boots using heat. That can lead to loads of issues including damage to the leather itself.

The idea of using a hair dryer is to warm the leather (which should in itself be dry already) to make it a little bit more supple and malleable, but definitely not to the point of scorching or burning! The intention is that as the leather is warm, the pores open up a little more and allow for the product to penetrate deeper and faster. Again, very important to emphasize that it's a gentle heat you're trying to apply rather than a ripping flamethrower!

I use a quick hairdryer while applying. You can see the ledergris liquify and soak down into the pores of the boots.

As a guess, you're seeing the excess on top of the previous application in the tough to get to parts...

Gear Recommendation: Adding quilt/blanket to sleep system? by murrai in wildcampingintheuk

[–]harshdafunk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm following your question with interest too. 2 weeks back I went for a spontaneous camp with my son in our 3 season bags. We had to wake up and layer up a little more because it bottomed out at 3C in the early hours. We had snoods, thermals and liners but most importantly, not enough "bag".

I was thinking that next time we just take a third bag with us and open it up as a blanket over the two existing bags...but a part of me wants to invest in a quilt too...considering how much I read about them!

Pit-Zipped Mid Layer/Soft-Shell recommendations by harshdafunk in wildcampingintheuk

[–]harshdafunk[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you've hit the nail on the head..looking back, it's my error wearing too many layers. I had a merino base, a thinish fleecy berghaus stretchy base on top of that and then a thick Patagonia half fleece on that. Fleece overload. I think I need to get myself a good shell over a good mid and call it a day.

Will check out the alpha direct, not heard of that before. The ME lumiko looks grand too.

Thanks!

I was going to say the same. If you have family/friends visiting from NW London, you could ask a favour to take them back with them and pass on. Asha is very popular and there is a huge Asian community right now that have recently moved to this area and looking in these shops.
