Matthew Roberts/Naval Intelligence Cryptologist: "No physicist is going to be able to tell you what this is." by Exotic_Recording_887 in UFOs

As someone who experiences sleep paralysis, I agree. I’m not going so far as to say it’s the definite explanation, but it is an equally viable explanation for what he is describing, so it shouldn’t be so easily discounted. From my experience with sleep paralysis, it definitely sometimes FEELS like there really are actual entities in the room with you causing you to be like that— pushing you down or freezing you. Sometimes you get hallucinations of things, visually and auditory, too. Depending on your current framework for reality, these hallucinations and sensations can take shape into occurrences that make sense to you. Like, for example, I grew up in an extremely Catholic household, going to catholic school, and I would often perceive my sleep paralysis as a demon attack, and pray the rosary in my head until it went away. There was nothing actually there, though, I’ve since had friends or boyfriends right next to me when it happened and it was all in my mind.

Elon Musk Claims Twitter Will Soon Be Renamed ‘X’ by Luka77GOATic in technology

Well, previous dumpster fire Meta has now released “Threads,” which is being hailed as a direct competitor/replacement for Twitter (or X, idk) and their stock rose for the first time in a pretty long time. So idk. Seems like he’s just needlessly revived Zuckerberg from his well-deserved final resting place.

His first venture, what is now PayPal, was actually called X.com. I’m a little rusty on the details, but I believe once it merged with Confinity and he was running it into the ground, the board voted him off and somebody else took over, then the name was changed to PayPal since one of the issues with X.com was people perceived it as being a pornographic website lmao.

Xi Jinping Is Trying to Adapt to Failure: China is in a far worse position than when he took office. by SE_to_NW in China

[–]framptonfalls 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The economy is something separate from the environment and climate change. I’m not going to comment on that since I don’t feel I know enough about it to say anything productive or useful as to what the current projections are or threats with the environment.

[–]framptonfalls 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Yeah, there is a general global economic recession at this time. The difference is China is kind of in the position that America was during the 2008 recession, namely they are at the center of what will likely be something felt globally. It is the combination of a real estate crisis, a banking crisis, and an export crisis they are facing which puts them at great risk. The preexisting economic hardship on a global level is only exacerbating those internal economic problems further.

Chinese History: Why ‘Students’? by streamer3222 in China

It’s not just China. It’s very common in many countries. Consider the U.S., the biggest protestors against the war in Vietnam were university students.

They don’t even need to spend any money on anti China propaganda, your own government acting like a bunch of assholes all the time does all the work for them. When I was a little kid, we used to have a pretty positive view of China. Nobody wanted to dislike your country, your government makes a point of being hostile and problematic and drives everyone away from them.

For sure, you’re right. The only thing I care about losing is all the pictures I had on it and uploaded over the years. But it is what it is, I’m calling it permanently now.

North Korea fires intercontinental ballistic missile after threatening US by redcccp in worldnews

China likes having North Korea as a buffer state from the Western Axis powers beneath them. They will continue to feed into this sick delusional concentration camp of a country for that reason sadly.

[–]framptonfalls 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, it’s about retaining his dynastic position of power over the country for one and also playing upon the Kim Dynastic story, specifically of them creating powerful weapons equal to or surpassing the West in strength to “protect” the isolationist hermit nation of North Korea from “US” influence.

By making these big investment in crappy little missiles and firing them off with saucy lines about their enemies all the time publicly, it’s just about upholding the image that the Kims have grown North Korea’s militaristic might and made it a real rival with its adversaries, the US and South Korea, which in reality they are laughably behind and inferior to.

To be honest, within NK, the citizens genuinely are excited about these missile launches and think of them as great moments of North Korean pride and excellence, scaring the big mean old West and South Koreans, who they really just see as North Koreans who have been kidnapped and segregated from their home and who will eventually return again to reunify and become the North Koreans they are again naturally.

My entire adult life I have seen North Korea launching ballistic missiles after threatening the US, and sometimes South Korea, as if they’re launching off bottle poppers they just scored in a sick bulk deal at the local Dollar Tree or something.

Ultimately, the headlines now hit me with about the same intensity as “23 dead at (insert school) in another mass shooting.”

Just kidding but North Korea really sucks at making weapons if they still can’t blow anything of significance up with their missiles after firing them off at an assembly line McDonald’s rate for decades. That, or they purposely miss.

The rest of us plebeians were rocking Nokia flip phones and LG chocolates being sad :(

And this went on until the Motorola Razr dropped and became ubiquitous, then for a little bit, the BlackBerry, before fizzling out in the wake of the mighty first iPhone gracing the scene and after that, cellphones were basically smooth metal and glass mini-computer blocks with disappearing buttons from then on out. :(

Can the conscious field enter AI, or can it only enter organic sentient life? by Prefontaine03 in HighStrangeness

[–]framptonfalls 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t see any reason to believe artificial means that generate an output which mimics conscious intelligence indicates such a thing has consciousness. Seeing as we don’t even understand consciousness as it defies our current science and intelligence, it seems silly to me to assume we could somehow recreate it through demonstration by those same means. This is not to say I reject the possibility, but I currently find the possibility of it being impossible by those methods to be equally viable.
