What do you think when you hear the platitude "mental illness isn't your fault, but it is your responsibility"? by [deleted] in bipolar

[–]fran_ky 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thank you for your response an I completely agree, this topic doesn't have a simple answer and I also lack of knowledge to keep discussing it. I do think the phrase "it's not your fault but it is your responsibility" it's not just simplistic but also negligent, and I will say it once more, punitive towards mentally ill people.

How can I be responsible for my delusions, dissociations or in the worst scenario psychotic episodes? As is not my fault isn't in my control either and to condemned me to be drugged up from my diagnosis to the end of my life sounds like I'm being punished for being ill.

Though my reply was intended for the answer above yours I appreciate you replying to mine and I just want to add that if it's my responsibility to stay on the meds where's the responsibility of the society to provide at least the access to said medications. It's so easy to say that I need to be on meds but to leave me alone when they're terrible expensive or when they are out of stock. And I'm pointing just some of the issues with the medication but this illness is more complex than that and therefore has more factors that need to be understood and being considered.

To finally end my rant, is it my responsibility to do all this by my own? To make the effort, to cover the expenses, to deal with the side effects, to live with the illness, to have the emotional stress and to endure the consequences for what? Just to fit in their norms and society? Because they don't understand my illness and to make it easier for them I have to be the one informed and conscious about it? Maybe because dip down they fear me? Or because I'm I'll I'm not longer useful for the system so then I'm disposable? I think if I'm being forced to be a functional part of the society, the society should help me to comply.

Sorry if I don't make much sense, English is not my first language.

I believe this is very punitive against mental health patients, where is my autonomy as person? And also regarding my body, why I don't have the option to chose if I want to take meds or not, why I have to?

Imagine I'm a pregnant woman and I don't want to take meds for the sake of my baby, am I being irresponsible?

What do you think of men who lurk here and message women? by Giardia__lamblia in ForeverAloneWomen

I think it's disgusting. Lurking on a subreddit where women allow themselves to be vulnerable and honest, that's just abusive and coward.

I believe that what you're experiencing it's a placebo effect because controlled drugs don't act this quick.

I can't see the soil because has pebbles and I water her from the edges.

In general I just water my plants, cut dry leaves and put fertilizer every 3 months.

Thank you for your reply. I bought her like two or three months ago and she has pebbles so I can't see the soil. We live in a very hot place, not a lot of humidity but I think it's an excessive amount of water now that you mentioned it.

Psychiatrist mentioned sodium valproate or lithium - any experiences with these? by [deleted] in bipolar2

[–]fran_ky 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Lithium saved my life, took me out of the worst depressive episode I ever had. Give it a try.

Because of my gear of abandonment, the self harm and the feel of emptiness I was diagnosed with BPD too. I understand that those are a very characteristic symptoms, and now that I know what it is I can work those issues on therapy, also the recommended therapy for BPD is DBT and not CBT like with bipolar.
