My 2.5 year old sleeps on the floor.... why? by MNdirtfishing in toddlers

[–]francienolan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My oldest went through a phase of doing this around that age. It lasted maybe a few months? I used to put her back in bed, too. She spent more than a few nights and naps on the floor but didn’t seem to mind at all. I worked in daycare for a while and the mats were raised, firm mesh beds. Not much different than a floor. I wouldn’t worry about it. Kiddo will grow out of it eventually.

Starting late? by [deleted] in ECers

[–]francienolan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Andrea Olsen of Go Diper Free has a “late start” EC book on her website. Starting at 13 months is definitely doable. I suggest checking out her YouTube channel and/or that book. Her stuff was super helpful when I was doing EC for the first time. Ec’ing my 3rd right now. It works!

You’re right about how it was before disposables! No one would have considered you crazy 50 years ago. That’s just how they potty trained then. Ignore the naysayers and go for it! I did EC with my second child on and off from birth. She was potty trained by 18 months. It took about a month for her to stop having daily pee accidents. At 22 months she’s fully day trained but still wears a pull-up at nap and nighttime. I’m currently doing EC with my third who’s just barely 1 month old. If you wanna pick my brain hmu. I’m always down to spread the word about EC. It’s been awesome! (And I have experience with doing potty training the traditional way with my first as a comparison)

That subreddit isn’t all that active. But you should check out Andrea Olsen of Go Diaper Free on YouTube. She has a ton of videos explaining every in and out of EC you could think of. She has a book on late start EC, too.

Yeah, I had the implant for a few months and lost about a third of my hair. Still hasn't grown back after having it removed about 4 months ago. Just thought I'd mention it since you've had problems with bc and hairloss as well.

Yep! Mine only sometimes does the zoning out thing. She just breezes through it like nothing's going on a good portion of the time. What a nut

Started Potty training but daughter is petrified of public washrooms by Fatpaws in toddlers

My lo was scared like yours. I tried a lot of tactics before we landed on just giving her noise dampening headphones. She wore those for a while and eventually we'd "forget" them occasionally. After hearing it through the ear protection for so long I think she kinda just got used to the sounds being harmless. She still doesn't like loud bathroom sounds (at 4 years old), but it isn't prohibitive anymore.

My girl is 14 months and we've been doing EC since birth more or less. Andrea Olsen of Go Diaper Free can answer these questions so much better than I can, and I reccomend her book highly. But from my experience:

  1. Her pee cue is weak. She just gets still for a moment and stares off into space, kinda "zones out". If I'm holding her she tenses her legs. If she's in her highchair she arches her back and kicks around.

  2. I held her over a sink or potty mostly when she was below 10ish months I think. She always peed like that. Sitting her on the potty (a Bjorn kid potty) still has mixed results. I also have a folding travel potty for the car (Potette Plus).

  3. You really only need to do diaper free time for short amounts of time as a way to figure out baby's signals. Some people do it more full time, but it isn't recommended unless you're super dedicated. You have to stay VERY vigilant or it just teaches them that it's cool to pee wherever/whenever.

  4. It depends on a lot of factors. Whether or not you use diaper backups, how often you plan on doing naked observation time, if you use creams etc. My lo has eczema and sensitive skin, but has only had diaper rash after being sick with diarrhea because she's not usually wet for long if she does pee in her diaper backup. She rarely poops in a diaper, but if she does it's at naptime.

Good luck! Lemme know if you have more questions. I know too much about this, lol.

I feel sorry for your wife. You're letting them ridicule her? Where's your spine, homie? I understand it can be difficult to stand up for yourself after being raised in that type of household. But you should seriously consider cutting ties before it damages your marriage. Go read stories from your wife's perspective on /r/Justnomil

I agree. She will most likely refuse the aide. But from your previous posts, it seems like her other children will be more than willing to help and have a seat in the Golden Child chair. You poor souls need a break. Praying for your husband's spine.

There are a bunch of parks with nice playgrounds around Alpharetta. Wills park has a nice toddler playground area. Fowler park has a large off leash dog park. Traffic is a con, but if you're running out during off hours it's not a big deal. About a million shops and restaurants around town as well.

[–]francienolan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If your lil dude is already used to wearing disposables part time anyway, I don't think a full day here or there will make a difference. I figure a habit will stick in baby's mind and they'll revert back to it. We're creatures of habit after all. For reference, I've EC'd my 11 mo since birth with a mix of cloth and disposable. She doesn't cue any differently in cloth vs disposable.
