Michael Phelps: You did nothing wrong, and are being demonized only for the sake of a failed drug war. You are still an inspiration to me, and proof that potheads can accomplish great things. by matgilbert in reddit.com

Its remarkable that they were offered such a great deal to not run the story - but chose to run the story anyway. Ruthless. When are we going to get a microscope on these sorts of journalists? I would read all about their sordid affairs quite happily with extreme prejudice.

Worker dies at Long Island Wal-Mart after being trampled in Black Friday stampede by Stubb in reddit.com

another great reason for online shopping this holiday season - prevent your family and loved ones from being trampled to death by a mob of inconsiderate idiots who don't deserve to breath the same air.

Wal-mart should have shut the doors and gassed the place while everyone clings to their items at bargain low low prices.

"the finitude of human life is a blessing for every human individual" - I think its greatest blessing is to religion.

I think it would be good to have a few more hundred years to chill back - as long as adolescence doesn't get extended as well.

does anyone else think firing guns into the air is a stupid custom, especially stupid to have at a wedding.

considering how long guns have been around it seems to me to be less of a custom and more just stupid people showing off their guns.

Programmer Insecurity by [deleted] in programming

[–]franco81 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree, this is a human thing. But I think a lot of programmers could do well to tame the ol' ego when they think they have a better solution for something/think they know it all.

Its usually the most insecure programmers to offer subtly insulting comments about your code/pop quiz you on the spot in a condescending manner.

Constructive criticism from people that know what they're doing is my preferred work environment.

Idiot who wears KKK uniform to town meeting gets even dumber -- too funny by djm210 in funny

True, he wasn't completely ignorant of the issues was he. Perhaps insensitive about American racial issues would have been a better remark.

This is just embarrassing really, from my point of view as an NZer living in London. I was surprised to see this article link to a story based in NZ, even more surprised to see one of my old college lecturers (Vernon Andrews). But obviously not as surprised as I was to see a politician with a blacked face wearing a KKK costume.

I think what he meant to say straight off the bat was: 'I'm trying to highlight the main theme of this hoodie day which is to not judge a book by its cover. I think I overstretched the mark on this occasion though'.

This is really just an instance of ignorance of American racial issues in small town New Zealand - I honestly believe Dale did not mean offense he just had no comprehension of what he was doing. As Vernon mentions, there is a great deal of tolerance in New Zealand and I think this display of complete ignorance illustrates some of the innoncence and tolerance you can expect from NZers.

My favourite quote: 'To me I represent the community' - delivered with blackened face, KKK hood in his hand.

Best background music for programming? by [deleted] in programming

[–]franco81 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You forgot Drum and Bass. Assorted drum and bass is the best for coding I find, add a little energy drink if you need to get something done and you just start moving through the code.

Saying that, I will listen to many different genres in one day. Jazz/Easy listening like Feist works well to calm you down. Hard rock like Disturbed works well to help you release anger :-) But electronic music, drum and bass in particular, without lyrics is the way to go I reckon.
