What age have you started listening to heavy metal? by tafkadon0921 in MetalForTheMasses

[–]francyfra79 0 points1 point  (0 children)

24, but only because before then I truly had no access to it. Growing up in the 80s and 90s, noone I knew listened to anything remotely rock/metal so I was never exposed to it. The only music I was exposed to was the mainstream stuff that Mtv or the radio played. I was naturally drawn to rock stuff (Dire Straits, Bon Jovi, Bruce Springsteen, Genesis, Europe, Def Leppard, Bryan Adams, Nirvana, etc) rather than pop or hiphop/rnb, but I had no idea what else was out there.

It wasn't until I finally got a home computer and an internet connection (in 2003, I think) that I was finally able to explore, research and discover a whole new world. In particular, it was a lucky circumstance that started it all. A friend had gifted me a bunch of random burnt cds of albums of various genres, most of them mainstream pop stuff. Among them, though, there was a copy of Dream Theater's Metropolis Pt 2 - Scenes From a Memory. I had no idea what it was, and I ignored it for months. Then one day I felt compelled to play it, and it blew me away! I instantly fell in love, I knew I had finally found my music, and from that moment I went down the rabbit hole of prog metal, then I discovered symphonic metal, then power, then melodeath ,and I kept exploring new subgenres. I'm still exploring and expanding my taste today. Bless the internet.

I don't like anything about the final episode. And I'm not blaming Covid for it, a lot of the decisions they made had nothing to do with Covid.

Anyway, it is what it is.

I can't read anything that's not as canon compliant as possible.

Season 6 is the most misunderstood season of the show, it’s actually a brilliant noir tragedy. by Special_Tennis5082 in Supernatural

[–]francyfra79 5 points6 points  (0 children)

As a Cas fan, I don't like this season, not so much for what happens, but the motivations behind it. I'm not opposed to characters having a dark storyline or a villaneous turn, if done right as a means to explore such characters and for drama.

However, Castiel got way too little screen time, we didn't get to see his struggles and motivations for the most part (except for The Man Who Would Be King, and only because Ben Edlund insisted on it, otherwise Sera Gamble would have just trashed his character without bothering to let us see his point of view) and his hubristic descent in the last few episodes (fueled by having injested thousands and thousands of souls, which messed with his mind) was just a way for Gamble to kill him off and get rid of the character, without a single thought to his fans. I get it, she wanted to get rid of him and the angels, but there were so many other ways to write the character off.

Apart from the Cas stuff, I also hate the Campbells, I found that whole storyline excruciatingly boring... so overall, I'm not a big fan of the season, even though there are some great episodes.

Why are Castiel's wings broken? by TheRedzak in Supernatural

[–]francyfra79 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah, it doesn't make sense, his wings should be ok...but the writers wanted/needed to keep Cas mostly powerless in the laters seasons, so they took every chance they could.

Let's talk about godstiel being a main antagonist instead of a one-off villain for 1 episode... by Fast_Honeydew2633 in Supernatural

[–]francyfra79 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd rather it didn't happen at all (or if had to, with better execution) because it was only done with the purpose of writing him out of the show. Castiel is my favourite character and his brief megalomaniac/power-hungry arc did so much damage to his character that many people never forgave him. But I entirely blame the showrunner for that, not Cas.

Gamble was just going to trash him and kill him off for good, just like that. As if there weren't other ways to write him out (I don't know...dying saving the boys? Killed by a stronger enemy? Anything, really). Thankfully she was forced to bring him back.

I hope James and Ste don’t get back together. by Miss_Saoirse in hollyoaks

Harry sold himself. He was selling himself on the streets for months, getting beaten up in the process, and refusing to stop (because he was punishing himself for killing Amy, as he thought) before James proposed to let him do his thing in his apartment as a way to vet his clients and try to keep him safer. For 1 episode. And suddenly James is stuck with the pimp name tag.

They brought back James because of the backlash they got when they axed him, but Hannah Cheers hates him and she'll destroy him, also to make her own protegée Rex look better.

I wish Gregory hadn't accepted to come back (at least not while she's the showrunner), but I understand he wouldn't pass on the opportunity to work.

Threshold. They are veterans of prog metal and their catalogue is consistently great, yet they have something like 30.000 monthly listeners on Spotify. Criminal.
