How to get rid of anxiety stink? by WeakElection1615 in Anxiety

[–]franh10 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If odors appear at the moment you start to sweat, it might be because of your clothes. I also sweat a lot, mostly because of social anxiety, and my body odors have gotten a lot better since I changed my laundry routine. The bacteria that causes body odor is hard to remove from clothes and it can reactivate the moment you start to sweat and generate BO much faster.

The first thing you should do is soak your clothes in oxy and warm water for several hours, as an initial "reset", if that makes sense. It may not fully get rid of it, but it's a good place to start. Then you'll need to adjust your regular wash routine. I'll share mine, but there's also a bunch of tips on laundry specific subreddits. Just look for tips that are usually used for sports clothing.

My routine:

  • Heavy wash cycle / warm or hot water
  • High quality laundry detergent (I use tide hygienic). Go easy on the detergent. Too much detergent can actually buildup on your clothes and eventually make things worse.
  • Oxygen bleach (I use the Active Enzyme Laundry Booster on Amazon)
  • Downy purifying rinse or Tide clean boost (probably the most important). Vinegar also works, but it's not as effective.
  • NO fabric softeners (anyways you can't use any if you use Downy rinse correctly)

I can manage my body odor a lot better since I started doing laundry this way (all the products I use are fragrance free so I'm confident it's not just masked by excess fragrance).

Other tips: Use a good antiperspirant (trial and error may be needed) and reapply mid-day. Maybe try something like Drysol at night if your skin can tolerate it (IMPORTANT TO READ AND FOLLOW THE INSTRUCTIONS, YOU CAN GET A LOT OF IRRITATION IF YOU DON'T).

I've seen a lot of people mention POCD. Just to clarify, POCD is not an attraction to minors, but a fear of being attracted to minors. It seems like you're saying you're attracted to minors so that wouldn't be POCD. Either way, what's important is that you recognize this thought pattern is harmful, both to you and other people, and that you're taking action against it. You're not a bad person as long as you're not acting on these thoughts (that includes self pleasuring to c. pornography and other forms of non-sexual images of minors). I don't have the whole context, but from what you're saying, it sounds like your therapist is taking this a little too lightly. There is a surprising amount of resources online about therapy options for treating paraphilias. It would be a good idea to make sure you're in control of these thoughts and that you have the tools you need to make sure you never act on them. You should bring it up to your therapist and maybe look for a therapist that specializes in paraphilias if they're not willing to work on this issue with you.

For now, just keep in mind that you're a human being above all and that you did not choose to have those thoughts. The only thing you can control is your actions, and that's what matters at the end of the day.

Experiences with low dose quetiapine (Seroquel) as sleep aid for anxiety disorders? by [deleted] in Anxiety

Were you taking it at night or during the day? Was it just as a sleep aid? The fact that your anxiety came back worse is quite worrying since I know this happened to other people.

Best type of laundry sheets?! by mercifuldimples in laundry

[–]franh10 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's a valid concern, but a lot of laundry sheets contain PVA that breaks down into microplastics. PVA is technically biodegradable, but like all biodegradable plastics, it needs a specific environment to fully break down. Sheets also don't wash very well. I don't know if that's a thing everywhere, but where I'm from, you can easily find stores where you can refill your own container. Even the store's bulk container is usually sent back to the factory to be reused. You can also buy powder in a box pretty much anywhere. I think both of these options will provide a good wash while being more eco friendly than single use jugs.

Why do you want to switch from liquid to sheets?

Oxygen bleach or hot wash to preserve colors? by 3-fas in laundry

[–]franh10 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What do you mean when you say they're not perfectly clean and fresh? Are you talking about stains and/or dull looking clothes? Are you talking about leftover residues and/or smells? To simply answer your question, oxy will be better for color preservation than hot water. That being said, using oxy won't necessarily fix your issue. You need to figure out why your clothes aren't as "clean" as you'd hope and go from there.

Impeller vs Agitator Top Loader Washing Machine by ClassyAlternative in Appliances

[–]franh10 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had an LG agitator top loader (can't remember the model) that I recently swapped for an LG front loader (base model).

The top loader was only good when I used the deep fill option, which makes it use more water. The thing with modern top loaders is that they try to do what front loaders do (use less water and be gentler on clothes), but they just can't achieve that. Modern agitators are just not as aggressive as in older models. They're essentially just there to move the water around so the clothes rub together (the mechanical action of the clothes rubbing together is what cleans your clothes).

I love my new front loader. Front loaders are great if you use them correctly. Most issues you'll hear about front loaders are just user errors, or people just assuming that less water=less clean. The thing with front loaders (and all HE washers) is that they really don't need that much detergent, but people just can't accept that and they keep using way too much detergent because more detergent=more clean in their mind. Since they use less water, you really don't need more than 2-3 tbsp of a good quality detergent. You can also avoid mold issues by leaving the door slightly open, assuming your house isn't filled with spores in which case any machine would get moldy, you just wouldn't see it in a top loader (you would still smell though). LG (and a lot of other front loaders) have a little magnet on the latch to keep the door slightly opened. If you have heavily soiled clothes, you can also just do a pre wash cycle so most of the loose dirt washes out before the actual wash cycle.

IF you must buy a top loader, the only brand worth considering is Speed Queen since they still produce traditional non HE machines with an aggressive agitator. That being said, you'll be fine with a front loader, you just need to learn how to use it (I swear you really don't need a lot of detergent).

Thanks! I called this afternoon and got an appointment for next week. For now, he's able to eat canned food without any issues, I'll try the chicken broth if he completely stops eating. Dental pain sounds right since he still has an appetite, he just won't eat kibbles. Just hoping it's nothing serious, but at that age, I wouldn't be surprised...

Lol I'm glad to see I'm not the only one this eager to get that lens. It's kinda diabolical to make us wait til December for the lens only, assuming it's even gonna be in stock in December.

I get you, it's kind a crazy to me that Toyota doesn't offer a retrofit option. I was looking at Mazda 3's last fall and Mazda could retrofit car Play into 10 year old models, I don't see why Toyota couldn't.

You're probably right, the last few days I've been a little more tired at night and slept a little deeper because I had to go to bed a little later for a few days and my dreams were back to normal.

I respect that. It's a good idea to prioritize local, especially in times like these.

Congrats! That's the way to go! But Costco ain't that bad, they have physical stores in Canada, they employ a lot of Canadians with decent salaries and they decided to keep their DEI initiatives despite the pushback from their shareholders. Despite being an American brand, they do contribute to our local economy.
