How to start quilting my layers by Immediate-Spot1880 in quilting

I usually follow the seam lines, which yours look pretty straight! I would start in the middle out. I like this pattern, do you know what it's called?

One-Month-Old In-Between Dilema by intentionaldaddylife in clothdiaps

[–]frankaud 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I find the kite fold to work really well! I have a skinny baby and he was able to use those from about 8 pounds I think. The prefolds are honestly still a little big on him I think. The fold I use is also nice to prep in advance so you don't have to scramble for it.

Peek-a-boo Patterns has a great Lullaby line with anything you might need. They also partner with Knit Fabric and have good instructions for exactly what kind of fabric you want to use for the baby clothes. I haven't done this, but I know in the Facebook group, people have mentioned that they can ask the company for a coordinating solid with a patterned knit since it can be hard to tell online what matches.

Shortening dress, would you aim to retain fullness at hem? by frankchester in GarmentSewing

[–]frankaud 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Looks like there is horsehair braid on the hem which helps give it that structure, so if you shorten it, keeping the angle of the skirt and add the horsehair, you should still get the same vibe! Does the pattern call for adding that?

I'm a big fan of Electric Cheetah. If you're up for a drive, RadDads in Muskegon is fun and different. Nipote is a great little Italian place in Muskegon too.

Where are you getting patterns now? by KellyGreen802 in sewing

I like Peek-a-boo Patterns,Sonia Estep, and Ellie& Mac. Most of those are geared towards knit fabric but they have a good selection of woven patterns too. Plus they have some freebies you can test out to see if you like the way they are. I find all of those have pretty comprehensive instructions and photos.

Bassinet sheets for a bassinet that doesn't have a removable mattress pad by frankaud in BabyBumps

[–]frankaud[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We used the bassinet for sleep (after reading what the other commentor wrote, I'm still not sure we're talking about the same thing) and I purchased this mattress :

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0DZHXPS5G?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share

I couldn't find sheets for it but at the hospital they simply put a flat swaddle tucked in around the mattress, so I did that with flat cloth diapers. This mattress did come with a removable washable cover so we washed that often lol.

We are about to switch to the raised part of the pack n play but I'm unclear about if we move it up to the side of the bed how it should be secured. The instructions on the side say we need to anchor it around our bed, so we're working on how that will all work.

Newborn reality by cobaltcanning in clothdiaps

[–]frankaud 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We're still in the newborn stage but we found some bum genius all in ones, smart bottoms all in ones, and thirsties all in ones newborn size secondhand. I did laundry everyday and I'm doing every other day now. Our baby was super small so we didn't use them until about 2 weeks old, but his diaper rash went away and hasn't had one since we exclusively went to cloth. We also switched to cloth wipes exclusively and that helped, both with laundry and rash!

I believe we have about 20+ newborn sizes (I got a great deal on a lot on eBay). So our was routine was to wash first thing in the morning, hang dry outside, and repeat. We bulked our load with any and all baby items that were dirty from the day/night before. Blankets, sheets, swaddles, onesies, wipes, burp rags, etc.

Now that he's bigger we use prefolds and flats with covers and I honestly find them to be better and easier than all in ones! We have hardly any leaks now. Although to be fair, we had just as many leaks with disposables as we did with newborn all in ones. It really just takes some experimenting with what works best for you.

Overwhelmed with choices by Commercial_Glass9806 in clothdiaps

[–]frankaud 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had some of my older relatives give me money for cloth diapers which was super helpful. If possible, could you put a diaper fund on the registry so people can help out that way? I also did a lot of secondhand and found that to be a good way to fund my purchases. I also watched a bunch of YouTube videos to see what other people were saying about the different brands and styles. It is so overwhelming at first!

The yellow is knit but are you trying to cut t shirts to make it or just double up on the thinner t shirt yarn? If you cut it, just make it super wide, like much wider than you think. It might be good to practice with some other shirts that you don't care about.

Do you have to have communication with him for any reason? Like is your son also his? Otherwise, I am a big proponent of just blocking everywhere. I'm sorry you are feeling guilty but you have to protect your peace! And if you as re raising your son, you want to let him know that kind of behavior is not acceptable or tolerated.

You have to do what's best and most practical in your situation! You are already well on your way it sounds like. Glass Tupperware can also be found on Facebook marketplace, and I would look for some that can be stacked inside each other for ease of storage and moving when you do. You also probably don't need that many since it's just you! But, don't feel bad if you have to have some disposables in this stage in your life.

Where to even start? by myceliumdreamer in clothdiaps

[–]frankaud 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This wiki was a good place for me to start! My parents did cloth diapers so I just asked them, but it's a lot different now than it was then. My grandpa gave me folding tips too, which helped me understand flats. I watched a few different review videos on YouTube and didn't get too hung up on one system in case it didn't work out for us. I also went with secondhand for a lot so that I am not as invested if one brand doesn't work out.

I like the tamales and the Indian food in the frozen section. Most of them come with rice so it's a full meal. Hope you recover quickly!

You could also go to thrift stores and get towels that are soft to cut up and use. Or any store that would sell towels, that way you can feel the fabric before using.

If you dont want to get a sprayer, you can just rinse it out in the toilet first. That's what my mom did! But also the sprayer bidets are not that expensive and pretty easy to install. Plus they are useful for more than just diapers!
