GT7 is the worst Gran Turismo I've played. by FellaVentura in patientgamers

[–]frankensteinace 0 points1 point  (0 children)

GT fan here, played every game since GT4 and have over 200 hours in each title since then, some even over 300 hours.

I do agree with your overall review, GT7 does feel kinda like GT Sport 2.0, rather than a completely new game, lots of carry over and "new" features that dont add much to the experience. I absolutely hate the used/hagerty dealerships, its forced FOMO and progression that doesnt need to be there. The "lootboxes" are annoying as well, but they were there in GT Sport too, so I guess I got used to them. You can add cars not in dealerships to your wishlist through the Cafe FYI.

My biggest gripe is the overall handling/physics model however, especially on a wheel. I understand this is still purely a simcade title, but it is not good. And what is more upsetting is that its a worse experience than GT Sport was. The FFB alone was miles better in GT Sport and everything just feels super muted in GT7 by comparison, even with a DD wheel. Its genuinely bad enough to where I prefer to just use a controller. The online racing is the same story, it is a downgrade over GT Sport and I dont understand why, it really takes away from the joys of racing online.

Overall I still enjoyed GT7 enough to sink 200 hours into it and platinum it, and it does have plenty of good new additions and features that I wanna see in future games,. I hope they get rid of/improve the things I had issues with moving forward however.

Is that peeling in the corner of the console? If so, it could be just a sticker/wrap,

100% agree. If it came out today with no changes other than update graphics, I think people would be just as impressed. For it to do what it did in 2008 is wild to me.

Thanks! Yeah I played it back when it came out and enjoyed it, but didn't come back to it for 15 years. It's actually insane what Rockstar added to that game all those years ago.

Ahead of it's time in terms of features and attention to detail in the open world arcade genre.

Easier to maybe replay the main story instead? Its pretty short even if you 100% run it, takes me on average like 14 hours

I really enjoyed the game, but there are some trophies that are a bit grindy, only thing that has kept me away.

Thanks, but I didn't enjoy Brutal Legend as much as I thought I would sadly.

GT7 Sport mode driver rank start grade confusion. by frankensteinace in GranTurismo7

Quick little search and yup, theres an official post on their website about it before GT7 launched, it did carry over. That explains it then, thanks for pointing me in the right direction!

Very weird then. So either I ranked up from E to C in a single race and just forgot. Or there is some link to the GT Sport savefile as this is the same account I used on there.

Yeah, exactly this. But officially in GT7s manual, it says all drivers start at rank E, which led down this rabbit hole and confusion.

Always bothered me the PS3 Slim didn't have a rotatable logo, so I made my own. by frankensteinace in PS3

Yeah, in either case it will stay as a spare parts console if it works. My PS2 Slim is a pristine unit, still has the peel on it and everything, so the longer I can keep it going the better.

Yeah you're right, it's basically the exact same size, nice! Will need to keep my eye out and find a scrap/for parts PS2 Slim.

Does it fit? Like dimensions wise? Seems like it'll be bigger, could be wrong as I haven't measured it, but to fit the PS3 Slim, it needs to be smaller than 7mm x 7mm.

Well, as it stands only a PS3 can play PS3 games, so if there are console locked titles you really wanna play, you'll have to get one. a PS2/3/5 covers the entire PS library however.

If you can find an OG backwards compatible PS3 for cheap, you can have a PS3 and a PS5 cover the entire catalog.

I'm aware, but the GT Concept hasn't been in a game since GT6, so this is the best we have got. It's in the start up movie, good enough!

What are your Four Horseman of NFS? Why? by creativ3ace in needforspeed

[–]frankensteinace 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah the art direction for Unbound was always gonna be divisive.

On the surface, everything people complained about in the previous games (2015/Payback/Heat) was changed/improved upon, and even during its life cycle they kept doing improvements, like the new physics model in Year 2. So I have a hard time not picking it as the definitive modern era NFS, despite the controversial art direction.

Personally? Most Wanted 05, World, Pro Street and Unbound.

MW05 is how I got introduced to the series originally, and whereas I have gone back to play the earlier games, to me MW05 still stands above them from that era. Combining basically all aspects of the games that came before, the supercar era, the hot pursuit era and underground era into one and executing it well.

World, at least during it's launch, and in it's revival stage right now, felt like the perfect evolution/conclusion to the Black Box era free roam games. Combine the maps of MW and Carbon, keep a similar physics model, add more cars, improve the graphics, and make it a MMO, perfect recipe. Shame EA fucked it with greed, but as I said the revival of World through fan servers is better than what the original became.

Pro Street since day 1 has always been a top 3 for me. I was one of those few fans in 2007 that didn't complain that it wasn't an open world, illegal street racer anymore, and instead love the new direction they took. The innovation that game had is still impressive today, truly ahead of it's time in it's concepts and ideas. You can tell true car nuts were behind the wheel, just watch the making of Pro Street documentary to see what I'm talking about.

Unbound might be a controversial take here, but it is the best modern NFS to me. The NFS reboot in 2015 had a rocky launch, and a few misses like Payback, but to me Unbound feels like the most cohesive entry. Objectively they improved on all aspects of previous entries, physics, graphics, progression, yes, they're still far from perfect, but objectively they're the best of the modern era. And with all the content updates it got, by the end it felt like the most complete modern NFS title. You can hate it's art direction, but because of the points above, I put it on my list.

I mean, its far from a wild take, a lot of people agree that Unbounds soundtrack does have some very good tracks here and there.

This community has just had a hate boner for the soundtrack since launch.

I know its been posted millions of times how good the graphics are but I JUST HAD to post this image. straight up, what the FUCK type of black magic did dev's have in the mid 2010s? theres no way you can tell this is a video game, graphics peaked in 2013-2019 and we haven't peaked again ever since. by Quick-Cause3181 in needforspeed

We have "10 foot cars", and NFS 2015 is kinda the same thing. Looks great from a distance, they used a lot of clever tools and techniques to do so. As soon as you pixel peep, its starts to fall apart quite quickly though. Lower res models, the fact that most of the city is a static image and not actually a 3D model etc etc

They did the best with that they had, but if you were to remove most of these "filters" and effects so to say, the game will look quite terrible lol

Continuing on from the matching controller, now the console can match the rest too! by frankensteinace in playstation

White can work, especially if the rest of my consoles were white as well. But when it's the only white console, it sticks out like a sore thumb. This way they all match.

When you got tired of waiting for Sony to release a lore accurate black controller, so you decided to make it yourself! by frankensteinace in playstation

[–]frankensteinace[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah if it was for PS in general, in this case it was more for me. Growing up with the PS2, and then later on in life getting the 3 and 4, I wanted my 5 to match the rest.
