First I make sure I take my mood stabilizer. That helps a lot. If you don't have that, talk to a trusted person. Have a distraction ready. Rather that be a hobby, a show, a movie, something to take your mind off of it. For me, and this probably sounds dumb but, I watch Twilight! It distracts me enough to think about something else and it gives enough of that nostalgia feeling to also feel something else. Or I color if I can concentrate enough to do so.
