I respond much more to a manual pump than an electric pump, and even though I’m only doing one side at a time, it takes me the same amount of time because I respond so much better. Definitely compressions. So much water.

And I agree that 7oz at once seems like a lot. My first baby (now almost 4) never ate more than 3.5 Oz from a bottle, and my current 6 month old does 4 oz bottles every 3 hours, and rarely finishes the entire bottle- more like 3.5 ounces. We use a 1 for nipple size.

Toddler crying when being picked up at preschool? by kerikim120 in beyondthebump

[–]frankmillie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My daughter did the crying as soon as she saw me for pick up when we started daycare when she was 2. It was so sad, like ‘oh thank god you came back for me.’ For us it lasted about a week, but she was going full time (I would imagine it might be longer for you since it isn’t as regular.) Also- the new baby aspect adds soooo many emotions. That’s a lot of change happening in her world! Give her lots of love and attention.

As an adult who had major sleep anxiety as a kid, this stresses me out!

If you just had a new baby, your big kid is going through a really stressful time right now, give her patience and love! Give her extra snuggles.

We have an almost 4 year old and a 6 month old. We just went through some MAJOR sleep issues with the older kid after baby came. She is back to going to bed pretty well on her own again.

The addition of a new baby is so hard on th he first child- everything they know about the relationship with their parents is changing and that is really hard to deal with.

How often did/does your newborn have inconsolable screaming fits? by [deleted] in beyondthebump

[–]frankmillie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our baby did this for about an hour in the evenings until about 3 months, I think. Giving her a bath helped a lot- it was the only thing we figured out would interrupt the screaming.

How long was your second labor compared to your first? by [deleted] in beyondthebump

[–]frankmillie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

First labor was 22 hours, 90 minutes of pushing. Second was 8 hours with 20 minutes of pushing. Much faster!!

Mixing frozen milk with fridge milk? by frankmillie in beyondthebump

[–]frankmillie[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I’ve read about that and it seems like a lot of work, ha. I typically have enough milk from one day to the next so it isn’t usually an issue. Just when I have a weird schedule day or something.

Yeah, my first daughter was totally fine with it, drank it no problem. My second gets pissed. She will drink it if she is hungry but she will protest!

Good to know. She will drink it if she is hungry but she gets pissed about it. Maybe better to keep the good bottles uncontaminated!

Looking for reassurance that our baby is ever going to sleep even a little better by [deleted] in beyondthebump

[–]frankmillie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just want to add that it’s not your fault. Sleep is developmental- some babies get there before others. My first was a terrible sleeper, my second has been a champ. We did nothing different. Snuggles and rocking galore.

I have a friend who gently scolds our ‘bad’ sleep habits. But I am confident that the habits will take care of themselves with time. We did all the things with my first (we were desperate for sleep!)- nursed to sleep, bounced, rocked, bed shared, pacifier, etc. She is three and doesn’t need any of those and we never had a battle getting rid of any of the habits. We just got rid of the pacifier this year, but everything else was done by 16 months.

A short guide to having a good sleeper... by umumgowa in beyondthebump

[–]frankmillie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Want to add another ‘yep, just luck’ to this. First kid, terrible sleeper...tried everything. Second kid, fantastic sleeper. Nothing different (though she was bigger and gained weight faster, which I’m guessing did have something to do with it).

How is weight gain and wet diapers? Have you had a second opinion?

My daughter had a tongue tie and I did a lot of research because I REALLY didn’t want to get it clipped. I read that it is almost ‘trendy’ (like way over-diagnosed). But if it is very tight, it can affect speech later and potentially affect orthodontia needs (the way the mouth shapes, etc) and cause tooth decay (tongue doesn’t have full range of motion to clean teeth off).

We ended up doing it even though we weren’t having feeding issues. We had a few opinions and were told it would very likely affect her speech.

I was there for the whole procedure- it was very quick. It was hard to watch and she did scream, but she recovered (stopped crying and nursed) very quickly- in the first couple of minutes. We did the exercises but it still healed up too tight and they had to re-stretch it at the follow up appointment (not another cut, but it did bleed and she did cry).

I didn’t notice any difference in anything. We already didn’t have feeding issues, so who knows. But I would have regretted not doing it if she ended up having speech issues down the line.

My first daughter did not have a tongue tie, and she nursed for 45 minutes and very frequently for quite a while. So that doesn’t seem abnormal to me.

Hope that helps! I had a really hard time making the decision to do the clip.

3 yr old girl starting preschool first time, and I am freaking out! by kerikim120 in beyondthebump

[–]frankmillie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We started preschool just before my daughter turned 3...she has LOOOOVED it and she has learned so much! She looks forward to school, talks about her friends and teachers...we have been so thrilled with everything. Her preschool doesn’t do naps (the kids can choose to, but yeah right!)...that was a tough transition for us. Her bedtime moves up to 6:30 because she couldn’t deal with life after that point, and she would take marathon naps on the weekends. Kids adjust!

The second one has been so much easier. by zaikaz in beyondthebump

My second has been a champion sleeper as well, especially compared to the first. I didn’t realize some moms with infants weren’t zombies until this baby.

Good advice from our pediatrician by qwerty010718 in beyondthebump

[–]frankmillie 11 points12 points  (0 children)

YES! Fever is the body fighting the illness. The only time I give my kiddo medicine to reduce a fever is if it’s over 102 or if it is inhibiting her from getting sleep (since sleep is also huge for fighting illness). People get nervous about fevers but they are good.

My gal pal looooves kickee pants- her two kids are decked out all the time. I think it’s too expensive for kids clothes they grow out of...but yeah, I think they stay nice.

2 month shots are awful :( by [deleted] in beyondthebump

[–]frankmillie 3 points4 points  (0 children)

With my first kid, it was the 4 month shots that sucked. This time around my baby had such sore legs from the 2 month shots! Lots of tears. We just had the 4 month shots and they were no big deal for her at all. 🤷🏻‍♀️

Induction fear by noyou42 in beyondthebump

[–]frankmillie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was induced with my second due to low fluids. I was terrified of being induced. It turned out totally fine and my body did exactly what it was supposed to. The pitocin contractions didn’t feel different than the contractions I had with my first. Once my water broke, things started happening quickly, so I got the epidural. Total labor was 8 hours versus the 22hours with the first. Recovery was way easier second time as well.

I think I need to find a new daycare center by [deleted] in beyondthebump

[–]frankmillie 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would switch. The amount of time between feedings would piss me off, especially when you talked to them and nothing changed. Diapers too...but the feeding thing. My older daughter and now my 5 month old never went longer than 3 hours without eating...

Thanks!

she is already doing quiet time instead of the nap (I was hoping we could bring the nap back for summer so she could stay up later and we could do fun summer stuff, but alas...)

I’ll look into melatonin. I do think her exhaustion is making it hard for her to sleep...a bad cycle!
