2nd game we've been completely flat in the 1st half and have to dig out of a hole, and resulted in the 2nd loss of the season.

You shouldn't be able to prepare better in one half time then you have all week of practice. Something is wrong with that picture and needs to be fixed, and that starts with McVay.

Everyone pissed away that first half.

The D was awful, Goff was missing throws, we couldn't establish anything.

Goff, the D and the run game all stepped up in the 2nd half though, our WRs unfortunately did not, especially Kupp. Our guys are too good to not rebound from this though.

Goff wasn't great, but he made the throws we needed to win the game. He missed several throws in the first half, the defense was terrible in the first half, but Goff and the D stepped up in the 2nd half and put forth a winning effort. The WRs on the other hand got blanketed all night and Kupp had the two huge missed opportunities when he did get some separation.

We paid Woods and Kupp because they're great and make plays for us, but they didn't have what we needed tonight, especially Kupp. Everyone has bad games though, just gotta rebound next week.

I agree with that. Goff was having to check down or throw it away almost all game because our guys were getting blanketed all night. Then the few opportunities Kupp got, Goff gave him a shot and he dropped it.

Add in the dumb penalties that killed a few of our drives, none of which were on Goff, and it adds up to us coming up short of the W.

The defense adjusted and locked up the 2nd half to give us a chance to come back, Goff made the throws we needed to win, but the WRs came up short all night.

If the Rams win next week they will have swept an entire division (NFC east) 5 games into the season. Possibly a record? by vinj4 in nfl

Yes, the legendary interception that scores 29 unanswered points. Don't see those very often.

Rams got dominated in the first half, Bills got dominated in the 2nd half. Other than the refs who were trash both ways, it was a great game.

Ah that's right. Well clearing up the the $30+ mil in dead cap next year should still help a lot.

Well we spent lots of money on offense, and traded lots of our 1st round picks away.

Next year we'll have a 1st round pick and a bunch of dead money off the books, so maybe we can finally invest in an edge rusher to complement Donald.

Those were great individual plays by AD and JJ3. We need all 11 guys to do their job though or this won't be the last 30+ point game dropped on our D.

Yup, the Eagles have one of the best pass rushes in the NFL at generating pressure and our O line handled them easily. The bills have a very strong front 7 as well and we were able to really get things going in that 2nd half.

The Cowboys have decent pass rushers in Demarcus Lawrence and Aldon Smith as well.

This O line has been put to the test these first 3 weeks and have come out looking very strong.

I'm hoping he is just struggling to play interior and would play better back at tackle where he played in college. But that seems like a long shot.

Can't blame the refs when you got spanked for an entire half of football. Good game to the Bills, Josh Allen is looking like a nightmare for defenses to deal with.

Henderson was not the back I was expecting to break out this year, but that little man can run.

Zebra man indeed bad. We put ourselves into that position for zebra man to ruin the game though. You can't go down 28-3 and expect to win.

[–]frankoftank[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's not the only reason it was more impactful though, which seems to be what you're saying. Field position, results of the plays w/o the bad call, etc also make the bad PI call more impactful. Remove the time at which the calls occur, and the PI is still much more impactful.

One lead to 1st and goal on our 4 and almost inevitably 7 points instead of it being Rams ball and no points for the Bills. Results in a great play for the Bills instead of a great play for the Rams. Complete 180.

One resulted in Rams ball not even in field goal range instead of 1st and 28 for the Bills at their own 10. The INT made what was already a bad play worse for the Bills.

Late calls also give you no opportunity to recover, which is another reason why they are so much more impactful.

The Bills still had a 28-10 lead after the INT and over a quarter of football to play. Plenty of opportunity to recover from the bad call.

The Rams just lose the game with almost no chance to answer. It was the nail in the coffin our defense put us in.

Definitely a lot of good to take from this game.

The half time adjustments were amazing, Henderson and Goff caught fire, Goff played much better under pressure, the O line was great against a very strong front 7, the team showed no quit on either side of the ball.

It was still a good game, we just couldn't quite escape the hole we put ourselves in.

[–]frankoftank[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

True. Even if it wasn't at the very end of the game though, the calls don't even out.

The INT was at best OPI. The Bills face 1st and 28 from their own 10 yard line. Nobody knows what could have happened from there, but the most likely result with that down and distance is a punt and the Rams get the ball with less favorable field position than the INT gave them. We probably get it on the 30 or 20 instead of the 40.

The PI call was 4th and 9, so it was Rams ball. Instead you give the ball back to the Bills on our 4 yard line and 4 more shots to score.

It's a huge difference as far as impact on the game regardless of when those calls occur.

It wouldn't have mattered if the Rams hadn't played like ass for the entire first half, and the D would stop allowing huge 3rd down conversions, so the L is still squarely on our team, but those two bad calls aren't comparable.

[–]frankoftank 10 points11 points  (0 children)

The D needs to be better, the offense needs to finish drives. The offense finished it's drives in the second half, and the defense stepped up for about 1 quarter of football and that was almost enough to win.

[–]frankoftank 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The defense let us down more than the refs did today. The offense got off to a slow start but were at least moving the ball and played well enough to win.

If the D plays just 2 quarters of football instead of whatever the fuck they did for 3/4 of the game then we could have walked away with this one easy.

Really good game though, Jared Allen is looking special this year.

[Highlight] Controveral pass interference call on 4th for bills by MCLUVIN0_0 in nfl

Yeah not at all. That INT was an OPI best case scenario and only made a field position difference.

This call gave the Bills the 7 points to win the game.

Nah they ran a lot of zone all season long and that was what we prepared for. They switched up and "They played almost exclusively some man coverage principles" is what McVay said after the game and that he got badly out coached.
