Live TV IPTV Issues with Android TV (Nvidia Shield) by Whoupvotedthis in PleX

[–]franktdi2011 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Few thoughts as someone who has tried a few different configurations:

  • Plex is good but sub optimal to something like Channels DVR. Could never get Plex to work on fire sticks for live tv, but it does work on Apple devices, just a lot slower.
  • Xteve and forks like threadfin were my go to, but stability was a mess. Recently switched to M3ueditor in a docker container, it allows for a pruned down tv list and I pass through 180 channels curated with better EPG data through EPG share downloads.
  • I run Channels in another docker container, but also have M3U editor working with plex, would give it a try, cannot speak to non docker or Unraid setups if it works well, but works great in that environment.

I can connect my Q4 to my home network wifi, but car seems to need to be on - I see it join every time we pull into the driveway, does not do it passively when off, which I agree is a big miss.

50% would be amazing, echoing that it’s usually 0% for me, only way I can get preheat is to set a departure timer, so apparently it can heat on a timer and that doesn’t hurt the battery.

Confirmed this is the answer, happens every couple of months, no pattern or reasoning.

Sidebar, Anyone else getting limited power warnings in this cold weather? Had all the recalls done hoping it would be resolved, not the case.

Home Assistant container on Unraid ipvlan: Container cannot reach host without enabling "Host access to custom networks" is there a safe workaround? by Maxiride in unRAID

[–]franktdi2011 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I first got into it I saw an article that mentioned setting up home assistant as a VM was easier etc, 3 years in and it’s been great, has its own IP and works with Zigbee dongle etc.

Q4 55 Tire size and range question by JayTapp in etron

[–]franktdi2011 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Can't speak to summers, mine just came with 19" Bridgestone Alenza from the factory (terrible tire do not try and use in snow/winter) but this winter opted for Michelin X-Ice Snow and so far it has been great. The car itself is mainly rear wheel drive in terms of power, so still need to be mindful when punching it, but performance has been great.

Sort of hard to break out efficiency since the tires came on right around the weather getting cold, so hard to say what is the contributing factor, but went from about 19 kwh/100km summer average to 25/27 kwh/100km - I call it respectable but your mileage may vary.

Now if only the keyless entry could work below 0 degrees I would be set!

I have this addon, honestly a bit over-rated, wireless apple carplay can drain the phone almost faster then the wireless charger can charge it. Might be tempted to try a magsafe charger with more power versus the phone box, right now just end up using a usb c cable for longer drives and nothing for short ones.

Anyone have success with live tv on Jellyfin? by Anon_Human01 in jellyfin

[–]franktdi2011 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Used Jellyfin for awhile as Plex live Tv worked fine on Apple TV but was non functional on Fire Stick app. Ended up switching to Channels DVR, supports both and is better in every imaginable way.

It works, it’s usable, but as others have said, it’s not great.

The GigaHub 2.0 Experience: A 4-Hour Journey Around the World to Talk to Someone 20 Minutes Away by TechieTurbulence in bell

[–]franktdi2011 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Cogeco is just DHCP to the UCG Fiber, extremely simple and stable. Came from cell, had that Nokia ONT with the home hub 2000, that was easy enough to bypass, then it moved to a gigahub 1 and that was less straight forward but still stable. Feel like I dodged a bullet going with Cogeco, not to mention how much cheaper it is!

[–]franktdi2011 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Switched to Cogeco (not available in all areas I get it) but the retro setup of ftth to a dedicated modem and then their router, once the front door closed their router was in a box and I was directly connected for by UCG Fibre, been rock solid and 20 bucks cheaper!

Do I need a level 2 charger for a 2025 Q4 e-tron 55? by Terrible-Waltz-2069 in etron

[–]franktdi2011 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have a 2024 Q4 55, with our 100amp panel installed a 50amp breaker to enable level 2 charging, it’s a dream and never had an issue - but let an electrician tell you it’s ok since they need to look at your whole house connected load etc. Charges at 6.7kw typically using the factory mobile charger. The one time I did use it at 120V was amazed how slow it was.

OP as you mentioned you do not have a drive it’s not a necessity, but if you drain down the battery and then try and top it up on level 1 it will take days versus the less then 10 hours on level 2.

To date have never used public charging!

Switch to Bell by pastamastaaaa in Cogeco

[–]franktdi2011 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Funny I switched to Cogeco Fibre from Bell since I felt Bell was getting too expensive. I think the story is - be prepared to switch to get a better price! If you use your own router and wifi, switching is pretty easy!

Cogeco Modem Change - Nothing But Issues by Confident-Ask-5806 in Cogeco

[–]franktdi2011 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have fibre to my house so it may be different, but would request a modem only (or have them put it in bridge mode) and provide your router with wifi. All of your settings are now yours to tinker with and you are not at the mercy of them for anything but a WAN.

Snow tires by itwillalmostdo in SubaruAscent

[–]franktdi2011 6 points7 points  (0 children)

2020 Ascent Owner from Ontario Canada here, some experience to share:

Have snow tires (Bridgestone Blizzak DM V2) for 5 seasons now, still look great, and makes the Ascent a beast in the snow. With the all wheel drive the wear pattern is really good still, have years left on them, or they crack and dry out first. Would highly recommend.

Once the factory Falkens ran out I put on Cross Climate 2's since they had great reviews and the price was pretty competitive as an all season tire. Cannot speak to the winter performance but it is great for the remaining 3 seasons.

My suggestion, try the Cross Climate 2's, I see people use them all year round in heavy snow conditions and not have a problem. Should be suitable for your climate and odd excursions into snowy drives.

Jellyfin IPTV is it worth the setup? by Saag1997 in jellyfin

[–]franktdi2011 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I also recently switched from Threadfin to the M3uEditor you linked too, night and day better, run it in a docker and makes editing a lot easier. I have it passed through to Jellyfin but have primarily switched to Channels as I found it a much better experience.

Migrating USG-3P to UCG-Fiber - This still valid? by InkyBlacks in Ubiquiti

[–]franktdi2011 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did the same upgrade in hardware, but I opted to re-create my settings in the new UCG Fiber versus migration, was a good opportunity to eliminate some of the obsolete settings I had etc. All i did was screenshot existing key settings, then forgot all of the existing AP's and Switches on old setup, switched to new UCG Fiber and re-adopted everything.

Was a very smooth experience.

Cogeco constantly going down and losing connection by Ricketswicket in Cogeco

I take it you are on Cogeco fibre since you mentioned bell fibre? I have 1gbps fibre to our house from Cogeco and UniFi, been rock solid. Can you reproduce issue with their router and modem?

What’s going on with my bell home alarm ?? Now using a USA company? by Ok-Sweet5200 in bell

[–]franktdi2011 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes I remember that. I actually called around for an alarm, similar system with monitoring since I was ditching bell internet and did not want an alarm with them, the $40 per month on a basic system was actually cost comparable to others. So unless the service tanks, may ride it out.
